Gave her a little at 5 am. Gave cerenia + 8.5 was 265 She ate half of ff salmon classic. DH was up at 6 gave food at 7 she ate 1/4. Gave zofram. amps 285 gave her 1/2 can salmon ate 1/4. Left to take hubby, came home +2 247 still hadn't eaten anymore. Gave her liver and beef, she ate 1/4. She's kinda sleepy gonna give her sub q fluids. Oh this wee thing!! :coffee::banghead::banghead::banghead:
 
I am glad that she is eating for you. And I hope that she will start coming down for you.

I might be wrong about this but ,I think I remember reading to stay away from fish with cats with Pancreatitis. Hope someone else will weigh in about that.

Oh crap!? Really! Holy moly. I just started giving to her when she was being really picky so we can definitely stop if we need to. Ty for the heads up. :)
 
Poor Phoebes, at least it sounds like she kept her food down which is a plus. Sounds like she is showing some interest in food, just not quite ready for the full meals yet. Hope she continues to improve, that sounded like a nasty flareup.

When Jack has a little flareup, I've found putting a few tbsp of food down every 30-60 min got him to eat it since it was only a few bites. I wonder if a big bowl of food gets them thinking they can come back later, while only a few tbsp, they better eat it now.

I have also heard the same. Apparently with some kitties fish can cause inflammation which is the last thing you want with panceatitis.

ETA That being said...when Tuxie has the occasional mild pancreatic attack (he has chronic pancreatitis) I will use a little bit of human grade tuna or salmon and give a tiny bit or a bit of juice to encourage him to eat.

I don't think there was any mention of this in the article, but this is the sort of things I learned about 10 years ago when I started making my own food. The ingredients in most commercial pet foods certainly are not of the highest quality, although some of the smaller companies advertise that they use human grade ingredients.

No Carol she really hasn't needed it until just recently. So vet is in tomorrow will call and get one. What's the best one?

I switched my two when they were about 6 1/2 years old. The pet food industry is certainly not very transparent with how they make their pet food, and the advertisements all show food that looks just wonderful. I still need to use commercial food for MC and HC and sometimes LC to encourage one or both to eat and I just use Friskies, but I do avoid the fish flavours.

there's two- cyproheptadine (an antihistamine) and mirtazipine
Mirtazipine didn't work well for Murphy and he got a little weird on it, so I use cyproheptadine. But some people swear by mirtazipine
I always give zolfran first however - don't want a ravenous, nauseous kitty. I do find that if I give it for several days in a row, it can lose it's effectiveness until I back off for a few days and start again

Thank you :) yes and I don't need something else making her sleepy. The bupe gel, makes her unsteady so have lowered the dose a little.
 
Called vet and taking her in tomorrow. She's not her normal self. I'm wondering if she is going blind too. She seems to be a tad bit confused. She's eating ok. Rather be safe than sorry.

I think the vet is a good idea, just to check if there's anything going on you don't know about. Maybe it's something simple...

Like Carla says, it can lower the BG but depends on the cat and when/where you give it. Neko once got fluids at the vet a couple hours after where she got her shot and it lowered her BG. When I did fluids at home, I liked to do it before her shot time by a couple of hours, the opposite side and location from her shot. Once I did that, the fluids didn't make any difference in her numbers.

I'm glad you are taking her into the vet. Odd that she seems to be going blind. Has the vet ever taken her blood pressure? Sending good vetty vines. :bighug:

Tonight is the 6th cycle on 4.75 units and according to TR she'd be due for an increase to 5.0 units. Actually, if you were really following Tight Regulation I'd take her back to 6 units. The "reduction" back to 4.0 units has clearly failed. With my Neko, her spits got a lot less when she got into good numbers. Phoebe is spending all of her time above renal threshold.:(
 
@Wendy&Neko I gave it on opposite side 4 hours after morning shot. I know you mean well and care deeply for these furbabies. And I mean no disrespect, I had to try it her way because I trust her opinion as well. And if something happens to phoebe I have to depend on her to help my girl. I did not want to continue without trying it her way, then something happen like a hypo event and hope that she would still see her even tho I went ahead and did it my way, without having the data from her suggestions. We will be having a huge talk tomorrow about this. Hopefully Phoebe is just having a bad flare up and I haven't caused her more issues, by trusting my vet. I will find it very difficult to live with if I caused her more damage.
 
Sounds like the fluids should not have impacted the BG the way you did it, If anything, fluids makes the numbers go down.

I know you had to try things the way the vet suggested. :bighug: I didn't mean to upset you. It just bothers me that so many vets are not educated that that there are conditions that cause kitties to need higher doses than others. It's a very common reaction amongst vets. I had to agree to disagree on a few areas with Neko's vet. I still valued her opinion on most topics. And the best part is that she is someone who is willing to learn and work with me.

Sometimes you can get a baby scale on sale at Amazon. Ebay is another good place to look for one. Getting kitty to sit or stand on it long enough to get their weight....well, let's just say that's a challenge sometimes, lol.

If Phoebes likes treats, I would start setting her on it and giving her a treat. If she doesn't, just set her on it and pet her and make a fuss over her. Do it over and over again for a couple of days, and pretty soon she'll love getting on the scale.

Thank you I am scared, but needs to be done. She is terrified of vets. She becomes petrified literally and won't move. :( breaks my heart. Ty everyone keep us in your thoughts. Hugs and head bumps to all
