Yesterday's Condo

Pretty much a flat kitty yesterday, which I was happy to see, after no insulin and all the stress of surgery the day before. We're starting off today at about the same point - a skosh higher. Cinco is doing fairly well. Still going crazy with that collar. My temporary solution for feeding works as long as I am there to hold it (so he doesn't knock it over. I wish I could come up with something he can handle on his own. I left a plastic plate of bonito flakes out for him last night, and it was several feet away from it's starting point this morning, with most of the contents intact. Poor little guy must have worked so hard trying to get to the fuds and just couldn't reach them! I saw him trying to get to them again a little while ago and went and held the dish inside his cone, but it still wasn't ideal. I have some errands to run today, so I'm planning to do some looking at Petco and Target to see if I can come up with a better solution.

I finally got a good whiff of Lantus this morning, so now I know what it smells like! My poor, arthritic hands have such a hard time manipulating the syringe to get the dose right (which is why my DH is the designated shooter), and this morning was a case in point. First I got too much in the syringe, so had to squeeze out a couple drops (whew! Smelly stuff!), then I had squeezed out too much, so had to add more. Argh! I think I got it right. Thank goodness Cinco isn't one of those kitties for whom a drop more or less makes a big difference!

Sasha ate her whole breakfast this morning! Yay! We're past the picky morning cat phase (knock on wood), hopefully. She still sounds better - just a little sniffling and some sneezing, but nothing like she was. :-D Humidifier is still running, and I'm still moving it from room to room as her sleeping spot changes. What can I say? I'm well-trained.

Sending healing vines to all in need, especially Hank, and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG:

Re: 3/28 Cinco AMPS 289

Hi Tricia! We all seem to be well trained by our kitties  . I'm glad Sasha ate for you and is sounding better.

I know on the Lantus smell...I'm more used to it now, but every once in awhile I'm like "phew!". I do the too much, squeeze too much, add more again quite often...frustrating for sure  .

I'm sorry it's tough for Cinco to get at fuds, it must be double hard since he can't see  . I hope you can find something that will work better while you're out on your shopping expedition! :-D. You're such a good bean! Good luck on your travels

Cinco, what the heck are you doing up there? You listen to your mama and come down right now!

Flat pink is not where we want to be!

Poor Cinco. I hate dealing with those ecollars. I hope you can find something that works so he can eat on his own. I'm glad Sasha seems to be getting better.

That collar must be tough for Cinco. I hope you can think of something that will work for him. I am glad to hear that Sasha is doing better. Tricia, you are so caring with your pets. They are lucky to have you

He sure is flat...come on down, Cinco!

Poor little guy with that collar...but another day is down!! Keep healing!!!

Have a great evening, Tricia!

Re: 3/28 Cinco AMPS 289 +3 306 +6 306

Is there any way you can trim the collar so it doesn't stick out so far? Or is that too close to the area it's protecting?

Thanks for the visits, Carla, Amy and Catherine.

Carla, I thought about cutting the collar back, but the OV's instructions do say not to alter it in any way. I want to keep that incision protected, but he's gotta eat.

I found something at Petco today that worked pretty well for dinner. I don't know how well it will work if he's on his own, because I think he has to approach it from the end, but it'll do for now. It has rubber feet, which keep it from sliding. I discovered he can still hook it with his collar and jostle the dish, but it stayed mostly upright and in the frame. I put water in the other half, but that sloshed out when he hooked the food dish. He actually does okay with his water dispenser, so I guess I'll leave the other half empty for now.

I got a low, ceramic bowl that I'm going to try using for his bonito flakes at night. He can't negotiate his timed feeder with the cone on, so I'll just have to put his snack out when I go to bed and hope he finds it. I think it will work okay, as it's heavy and shouldn't tip easily if hooked, and small enough to get the cone around.

Minka is missing her daddy. She sits in his office and howls into the baby monitor - like I can't hear her without it! (The monitor is so I can hear her coughing and keep track of how often she does it)

The OV warned me that Cinco might be more constipated than usual, with the heavy pain meds he's on, but I think he had a bm this morning. I found a loose, uncovered deposit in the smallest litter box in the house, one he rarely gets anywhere near. At first I just thought Harvey got lazy (he uses that box often), but then after dinner, I watched Cinco go in there and pee. Unfortunately, the box is too small for a big, blind cat that doesn't know where his butt is in relation to the edge, and he peed down the side and over the edge :o ! Oh well, I was going to scrub all the boxes tomorrow, anyway, weather permitting. Now I'll have to clean the mat, too. I'm just glad the bm was all the way in the box ( he must have gotten in and turned around). I suspect it's loose because he's on so many meds and I gave him a couple jars of baby food over the past few days, plus extra water in all his fuds. So much for the constipation!

I know I'm babbling, but I have to share one more thing. Harvey scared the $#!+ out of me tonight. I heard a crinkling sound and looked around to see Harvey nuzzling my big, old Peace Lily! The ends of some of the leaves are brown and make noise if you touch them. That plant has been there for at least 10 years (my district manager sent it when my DM died), and he's never bothered it, but all I could think of was that he occasionally nibbles on plants, and Peace Lilies are very toxic to cats! :o I gave it a close inspection and found two leaves that could have been nibbled, but I can't be sure because the brown part is pretty brittle and crumbles easily. I've been watching him like a hawk ever since. The little knothead is acting perfectly normal - ate his dinner after playing hard to get, as usual, and is now patrolling the downstairs, making sure the other kitties are where they belong. One more thing to keep me awake at night! :YMSIGH: I did manage to find a higher perch for the plant, one where he shouldn't be able to reach it.

Poor Cinco!! How frustrating for him to want to get to food and can't. Ingenious solution, Tricia, and I hope it continues to work for him.

Oh Harvey!!!! You have your hands full, Tricia. That would scare me, too.

I'm glad you found something that works! That cone is so awkward it'd be hard to find anything absolutely perfect but this is close to! Good Cinco, to eat your fuds :-D . And bad Harvey, to give your bean a heart attack and try eat bad plants! I hope he didn't get any :? . Poor Minka...daddy bean will be home soon. No need to use the microphone  . I hope the litter box issues are all sorted out soon. Poor guy. I hope you all have a nice evening
