Yesterday's Condo

So the last couple of days Sammy's numbers haven't been bad, but they also haven't been where I would like to see them. It wasn't until about +2 PM last night that I finally figured out why. I have been feeding Sammy Max Cat Venison very sparingly as a little bit of 8% in his diet. What I realized last night and why his numbers have been so flat lately is that the Max Cat Venison contains Chicken and Chicken Broth. I do remember reading the ingredients before, but apparently I forgot it contained Chicken. I stopped feeding that food last night and look at the amazing results we have this morning.

Same dose just different food. It still amazes me how much food can effect the BG!

Hopefully these changes will finally get Sammy to the falls again.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi! This is my first visit your condo. Congrats on a successful food change! My Billie has all sorts of allergies including food allergies, so I'm intrigued to read that your vet said an allergy could cause the pancreas to stop working properly. Did he or she explain how that might be? I'm super curious!

I think the allergy caused the pancreatitis which caused the pancreas to stop functioning properly. The vet said that when the pancreas is inflamed due to an allergic reaction it can stop functioning properly. At least that is what I remember from the conversation, but that was months ago.

hm, interesting conversation. I haven't heard that about a food allergy, but allergies do create antibodies and antibodies can have an effect anywhere in the body. If you think he's allergic to chicken have you checked out all the other food he gets? The woman on www.catnutrition.org talks about how people try going to a novel protein when their cat has trouble with cat food instead of eliminating all the foods that a cat wouldn't ordinarily eat that get included in cat food. I thought it made a lot of sense. That's not Dr. Lisa's site, but apparently she has collaborated with Dr. Lisa.

Interesting! Thanks for clarifying! That is complicated, but it definitely makes sense. It sounds like you have a good vet if (s)he tries to connect the dots like that. I hope Sammy continues to do well with the new food! Billie liked Instinct's venison for a little while.
