This morning is vetty day. This is going to cost big time. Going to try to keep it to necessary testing only. On last phone call she mentioned doing a cysto, and I know she will want a fructosamine because of the caber. That was condition of getting cabergoline. I'm going to ask about doing A1c instead as that's suppose to better. Then I need scripts called in for caber and gab. Need fluids, more bupre. Will ask about cisipride. I think she wanted another p'titis test to see if that went down. I want them to clip her nails. I don't like the idea Ollie still has all these matts but I got as much as she would let me get out. There is no stopping The matts, they breed like rabbits. The birds are loving it though. I put the combings out so they can use it in their nests. Overall I think she will be pleased how Ollie is doing.

To all Floridians be safe, I see on the news you are having a Nor'easter. severe winds and rain news states. Our no'reasters are snow as wind.

I regret having a Cysto done on Ravan. It turned out to be NOT necessary & I swear it damaged his bladder. I really try to avoid anything that's not really needed.

My cat Alice has short fur but she gets all matted too! I'm always combing out matts :arghh: she Hates it !

Dr was pleased with her. Felt a lot of stool in her so she agreed to the cisipride. Yeah. She didn't question the lactulose or how I got it since she knows she didn't write a script. She is calling in all the med renewals, got script for lev so will be sending to Marks today. Right now 1 pen is lasting 19 days. She is doing blood panel with p'titis test and I think thyroid. I have to get ua sample. She didn't want to do cysto with her full of stool. She isn't doing fructosamine. Dr said she is so much better and her dose isn't all over the place like it was. She said "you have her well managed with insulin needs, she isn't having any hypo or symptoms and she getting enough of it, your holding the dose s nicely, so I leave that up to you". Don't know if I agree but it's nice to hear.

I guess she just needed to find out for herself I am not the kind of parent who goes in, gets what they want and then never be seen again. I have followed "mostly" what she says. I might change a dose a wee bit if I think it will help, I always start at low end vs right at the top , sometimes they do fine on lower and then it gives me wiggle room. Like the caber Ollie is doing well on the 0.8 instead of 0.6 (she is ordering 0.9 now, we discussed a bit more to see if it will help but leaving it up to me if I want to give). And lactulose, I give less than normal but it's working and she is going almost everyday. Might skip 1 day but that is it now, but not like before when she didn't go 5+ days in a row. Lactulose is certainly the better way in my book than enemas every day or 2.

We had given our civvie Allen cisapride. I don't think it really helped his constipation much but it did seem to make him feel better in general so we continued.
Glad the vetty visit went well.

Marks say they prefer if people would order more in spring and Autumn before temps become an issue. I am going to get 2 boxes if price is right.

I think she had to trust I would come back and I just don't do what I feel like.

Hi, sounds like a good vet visit :) Can I ask why the cisapride, if the lactulose seems to be working? Or is she just more regular, but not large enough amounts? I'm still trying to figure out Willow's pooping issues...the lactulose is definitely helping with regularity so far, but I'm not sure on volume yet; I've got her up to 2cc lactulose now. I'm adding back in her clearlax.
I know lactulose isn't supposed to affect bg levels, but Willow's seems to be up a teensy bit lately...I think I'll hold off on any dosecreases until we get her pooping straightened out, unless something changes drastically with her numbers.
It's definitely matty season...Willow hates being combed too :) With love, Nikki
 
You are such a good caregiver, Paula! I am glad that the vet is working with you.

What a great idea to throw the matted hair outside for the birds. I don't know why I never thought of that!??

I hope you can get the number of boxes that you need from Mark's.
 
Sounds like a good vetty visit. Olive is lucky to have a mom who fights so hard for her! I have a husky and blue healer who shed out massive amounts. Of under coat every spring. I always put their hair outside for the birds.
 
I'm so pleased to hear you both had a good vet visit! I'm really excited that she didn't decide to do a fructo test. I think it's awesome that she's willing to trust your numbers and experience. Let me know about Marks. Lou goes through a pen about every 1.5 months, so I was tempted to order 2 boxes next time to save on shipping. Worse case scenario, if we overdo it on the pens and he goes into remission or goes down to a super low dose, we can always sell the excess or give to someone in need. It would be worth it if our over-planning gives him a push to lower doses, etc. ;)

The cisipride is suppose to help contract the muscles to move the stool through. I don't know what dose she is ordering. I thought of alternating the lactulose and cisipride days.

I noticed with the cardio US and today with Dr checking Ollie passed stool as soon as she got home. Maybe if I learn how to do that it would be better instead of meds. She just reacts so bad when touch anywhere on her back. Dr has said on more than one visit, she thinks Olive has spine problems, so I really try not to touch her back.

Marks said you can order as many as you like. They actually prefer if people order in Spring and Autumn enough to get through the Sumner and winter because of temps.
