? 3/26 Petey AMPS 357 -Blood work results questions

I carried him up the stairs so he could come to work with me. He is out like a light today. Trying out new meds is always nerve-wracking.

I missed your update when you posted yesterday, but just read through the information. I'm glad they were able to determine what is going on with the leg. For what it's worth, the red light therapy does work. One of my colleague's husband is a vet, and she (my colleague) has serious TMJ issues, and her husband does the red light therapy on her jaw; she says it's one of the few things that truly helps. Did they say if he had infection in his mouth? I know you know this, but, if so, that could cause his numbers to be erratic.

Sending healing vines to Petey today!

Thank you for keeping track of Petey! I have read great research on red light therapy and was looking at a couple options to purchase... it's something we can use too!

She did not mention infection (I sent her the question). She showed me pics and a few teeth were bad... gums were red looked like maybe they were bleeding but not sure if that happened from the exam and one tooth was covered in tarter -oddly it's just one side. I did just get his blood work back and WBC was great... other values not so much. I would like to post for advice.. should I create another post on the Health board?

I just got Petey's blood work back here is a link to the results these results also compares to his last blood work. I will get it on the spreadsheet but hoping for some thoughts.

My concern is his Reticulocytes keep getting worse (none present this time)... yet she said he's not anemic. Anyone have experience with this? Of course she pushed a drug that might help.

Second concern is she said his kidney values have increased and considered him Stage 1 CKD. What values should I be concerned with? Of course she pushed prescription diets for this and said we can increase his insulin if carbs are high.

Anything else of concern here?

EDIT: I created a post on the Main Health Board -assuming that is a better place?

I'll be interested to hear if she sees infection. I would think if there is infection, she would prescribe an antibiotic. I think they typically like to get the infection at bay before any dental procedures.

I HATE to hear about the CKD. Ugh. Just another serious thing on top of FD for Petey. The best group for CKD is Tanya's https://felinecrf.org/tanyas_support_group.htm. I know there are several people here whose cats have CKD, so hopefully you'll get some great advice, but Tanya's forum (and there is a FB group as well) has everything covered for CKD like this forum does for FD. I had a cat with CKD, and he lived to the ripe old age of 19.

Put your "?" up in your title, and I would post in the health forum as well. That's a much larger group.

Done. Thank you. My last cat had CKD but she was like 23 at the time of diagnosis, it was hard. I see those numbers are up a little bit but could that be from the meds they gave him? He definitely needs to drink more water, he rarely drinks since switching to wet food. I do add some but I am going to be sure he drinks a lot more.

If you're referring to his bg numbers being a little higher, they could be elevated from the meds (I don't know for sure if meds can bump up bg numbers--but if a bit of excitement can boost them, meds probably can too) or just a bounce from those nice blues he saw yesterday--113 is the lowest he's been since the first of March, so a little bounce might be anticipated.

Jude almost never drinks from the water bowl, and hasn't since I've had him. I put a lot of water in his food, too.

Sorry, I was referring to the kidney values. He had a great bg day yesterday and if that was inflated from stress, wowza!

About how much water do you think you add total?

Gotcha! He did have a great day yesterday! I haven't dealt with CKD in so long, that I don't even recall what to look for in terms of kidney values.

I feed him the little FF tins, so I typically add about 1/2 of a tin of water to his food--I'm not sure what that amounts to--2 tblsp? And he gets one of those 3-5x a day, but he shares with Hazel. He and Hazel have a water fountain, but they don't touch it. :(

Hi Laurie, I’m so glad Petey is home and survived the nasty vet visit yesterday. He’s so sweet and I’m so glad he was sleeping with you in his little bed.
I love his leg hanging off the edge.

We are sending healing vines to you both and praying his leg will heal. That sounds so painful.

I hope the pain meds will make him feel better.

It’s always so much to figure out and try to help them with all of their ailments.

You’re doing such a great job caring for your adorable boy.
We send you both hugs and hope he had a very restful night and a safe surf :bighug::cat::bighug:

Thank you Staci, we try so hard and give them all we have. So much to learn! I just put in all his numbers from blood tests and something is very strange with this red blood cells. Hoping someone weighs in with some thoughts.

Hope you and Ivy had a fun day!

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that poor Petey has another serious thing to worry about on top of the FD! :( I wish both of you could catch a break.

I hope someone's able to chime in on your bloodwork question(s).

He sure does look happy and comfy in his bed though!
