I think the higher carb diet is getting to him. Unfortunately, he is eating a lot more of that food than he does the LC food. His weight loss has stopped as a result and he is at least holding steady. The improved calorie intake is making him more active and overall happier. I am seriously considering raising his dose 0.25 to compensate for the increased carb intake. He really needs the calories and the penalty of a slightly higher dose to compensate for calories seems like a reasonable trade. He's not eating full bore HC food. Just MC and HC mixed with LC. I think there must be some kitty krack or something in the higher carb foods that sparks his appetite. He has had no MC or HC foods today with his high GB numbers and it has taken a lot of Bonito flakes on LC food to get him to eat. But he has shown after a day or two of the flakes he gets tired of them and they don't work. Then he only eats tiny portions of LC food. Cats cab be such a pain. He was doing so well with the current dose and LC foods. But he was losing weight like crazy.

His BG numbers seem to be going down with the switch back to LC food.

Sounds like you've got it down, Steve. His number had been so good - what's with these reds? Great that he is gaining some weight or at least not losing any

My guess is he reached a "saturation point" with the higher carb food. All the greens before were when he was 100% LC food. But we needed to get calories into him as the LC food wasn't giving him enough. The higher calorie food we switched to has higher carbs. I was mixing the LC and HC foods 50/50, but he was still losing weight, but at a slower pace. So I increased the percentage of HC/MC food to the LC. Some of the MC foods I went 100% with. His appetite perked up with the higher carb foods and percentages and he stopped losing weight. At this point I was wondering if we could continue to get away with this diet. Then the higher BG numbers set in. Plus, I added to the issue by giving him a fur shot (his fault as he turned on me) so he got no insulin for that period. I didn't try again as there was a possibility some unknown amount did get into him. Since he went red the first time a few days ago, I put him back on 100% LC food and his numbers are coming back down. Notice he went back to green with the LC food, until the fur shot. Then he went red again. If I want to get calories into him, I think I will need to establish a new higher dose for with the higher carb food. I want the fur shot to clear out of his system and see where he settles at this dose and back on the LC diet and start over. If he gets back to his greens, I will go back to the higher carb diet and bump up his dose 0.25u when he moves up into the blues as a result. That's the plan for now. Cats can be such a pain.

I think you are still seeing the effects of the furshot. Have a little patience and wait for the depot to build. Plus he still likes to bounce from lower green.

At this point, feed him what will help his weight and adjust the dose around it.

I've had similar issues with Leo. So he gets a mix of high carb with his FF Classic (low carb). Usually I just put a teaspoon of the gravy food on top and that gets him going.

Leo's dose is adjusted as well, to regulate as much as possible with this mix. So Leo gets some carbs, and some attempted regulation.
