Good morning,

Yesterday's condo

Yesterday
AMPS=198 (s1u); +1=227; +2=221; +10.25=373
PMPS=355 (s1u); +1=346; +2.5=311; +5=317; +8=234

Today
AMPS=167 (s1u); +1=229; +2=248; +3=311; +10.5=236
PMPS=257 (s1u); +1=250; +2=248; +4.5=205

Lucy is feeling better this morning. :-D
She ate about 2/3 of dinner last night and kept it all down.
I gave her fluids at about +5.5 last night, and I think that helped.

I got tons of good suggestion/advice in yesterday's condo about dental preparation, x-rays, a/b, and I really appreciate them.
I also had a few things I wanted to report yesterday evening, but the puke thing happened and I didn't get a chance.
So... here are what I wanted to report. I'll make it short.

- Lucy's cobalamine is low again. Once a week schedule brought her value way too high, and once a month brought her value too low.
So we are going to try every other week schedule.

- We are going to do a urine culture to test for UTI.
It's a long story, so maybe I'll talk about it some other time, but my vet got a second opinion on Lucy's recent b/w, and one of the things she thought was a good idea is to do a urine culture.
I think the reason behind it is the high WBC combined with low urine pH.
The pee collected last Saturday is of course gone, so we are going back to the vet on Sunday.

- Since we are going to the vet again, I am going to do her x-rays on Sunday there too.
Their equipment may not be too new, but it's at least digital.
If they can show you an image on a computer monitor without developing, it's digital, right?

:?: :?: :?: Sorry it's getting long and I've been asking questions every day these days.....
I have no experience with UTI.
How long does it take to do a urine culture?
If it turns out to be positive, how long does it usually take to heal with a/b?
If positive, should I postpone the dental appointment?
I am thinking something like UTI would take away a lot of her immune capacity, which is probably already low fighting IBD and pancreatitis.

Thank you as always.
Sending vines to all in need.

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167 // Q abt UTI

Hi guys ... I'm glad lucy is feeling better today .. I don't have any advice/experience with UTI's myself, but I know several people on here have had them done .. Seems like there is one test that is done in the vets office and one they send out .. I can't remember which one gives the best test results .. Hopefully someone soon can answer these questions for you .. and never feel bad about asking questions either, someone on here always seems to know the answer! Have a great day!

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167 // Q abt UTI

Lucy ate the 1st and 2nd breakfast fine.
Not much enthusiasm, but that's not new for Lucy.
No poo yet. I'll stay at least until +3 this morning.

Lucy has a reiki appointment this afternoon.

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167 // Q abt UTI

Hi Mariko! I'm sorry that I don't know the answers to any of your questions, but I ask lots too so don't feel bad ;-) . I answer others when I can and so do you :-D . I'm grateful for all the experience in all things on the board  . It's good she kept down dinner and fluids helped her.

I'm glad that Lucy ate, if not enthusiastic, what a good girl! Paws crossed for and poo vines sent! I hope the every second week cobalamine is the perfect timing. Have a great day and give your kitties some scritches from me

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167;+2=248 // Q abt UTI

Well, now I think about it, the vet didn't actually say "UTI".
She just said "urine culture" to see if there's "bacteria", and I just assumed we are checking for UTI......

:?: Could this test be for something other than UTI?

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167;+2=248;+3=311 // Q abt UTI

angry(2)_cat

I don't know what's going on with her BG!
Pink again!
She's not a pink cat!

She ate all her breakfast, keeping all down.
She purred while I did the +3 test.
Why why why why why.
These pinks are definitely not right, but she's feeling fine now.

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167;+2=248;+3=311 // Q abt UTI

Just tested again with the backup meter, also one touch ultra mini, and got exact same reading.

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167;+2=248;+3=311 // Q abt UTI

Hi Mariko,

Could the numbers be rising like this because of a bounce? Jersey had a blue AMPS Monday morning and then went into bounce mode. Regardless of the reason, I hope all of the vet work checks out well. (Sorry I can't give you any guidance with it.) It's good that Lucy's starting to eat a bit more and hold it down!

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167;+2=248;+3=311 // Q abt UTI

I'm sorry about the pink. I hope Lucy comes back down soon. I'm glad she's feeling better today and eating some. I don't know about the UTI either. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167;+2=248;+3=311 // Q abt UTI

Lucy, please come down from there. You are not a pink cat at all!

My vet has told me that sometimes there are no or very few signs of an UTI, maybe the numbers are why your vet wants to culture her urine? The results take 2-4 days to come back. If there is nothing to culture, they find out early. If there is, they have to wait for it to grow and it takes longer to get the results. If it does come back positive, I'd call the dental vetty and see if they think it should be delayed.

Re: 3/26 Lucy AMPS=167;+2=248;+3=311 // Q abt UTI

I hope Lucy has turned herself around by PMPS!

I don't have too much experience with UTIs and such, but we are running a culture on Trix's urine right now, "just in case", but I am 99.9% sure it will come up negative. Her urinalysis showed now bacteria, but at the same time, our vet did say that if the urine is dilute (like Trix's), bacteria may still be there even though it isn't seen, so a culture isn't a bad idea. But that's about the extent of my knowledge...hopefully someone can give you even more info than that.

I'm glad she's feeling fine despite the pinks!

Re: 3/26 Lucy PMPS=257 // Q abt UTI

Thank you very much for checking in on Lucy.
She has come down to yellow, but still too high for her.

She hasn't vomited since yesterday.
She ate the 1st dinner pretty well.
She seems to be in an OK mood.
My vet doesn't know her BG has risen so high because pink happened after we talked about urine culture, but now "I" am thinking that maybe UTI (or something else somewhere else) is causing her BG to rise.
I have been very conservative about her dose, but still this is a bit too much....... confused_cat

Anyway, Lucy's feeling fine.
Such a good girl.

Re: 3/26 Lucy PMPS=257 // Q abt UTI

Hi Mariko,
I have no answers re: uti either, but wanted to know I am thinking of sweet Lucy and am glad she is feeling fine :-D
Hope the culture gives your vet some answers, even if it just ruling something out.
Have a good night~

Re: 3/26 Lucy PMPS=257;+2=248 // Q abt UTI

Tomorrow morning, I'll try a new cartridge from the same box.
I'm currently on the 1st cartridge out of this box.
If it doesn't help, I'll buy a new box of 5 on weekend.
Just want to make sure that the insulin is fine.

Re: 3/26 Lucy PMPS=257;+2=248 // Q abt UTI

I hope all will be ok. If she does have a UTI, it depends on how bad it is as to how long she would have her on the a/b.

I would ask the vet, too, if it's possible if it could be a kidney infection? A lot of times, urine cultures won't grow bacteria if there is a kidney infection. I'd just ask to be sure.

Sending healing vines.

Re: 3/26 Lucy PMPS=257;+2=248 // Q abt UTI

Hi Mariko:

I'm glad Lucy is feeling fine, in spite or her "high" numbers.

Harvey was treated for a UTI recently, and I think it took about three days to get the results of the culture. He was on his AB for two weeks.

Sending healing vines, and a few appy vines, too, to keep Lucy eating well! :-D
