3-25 Leroy AMPS 199 PMPS 143

I mixed some medium carb into his snacks today to keep him from scuba diving :nailbiting:

fPLI 17.4, way over the max of 3.5:oops: He's not showing symptoms other than not wanting after dinner snacks the other day. Good thing I gave him an ondasetron the other day. Stinky pinky bg but not unexpected. Looks like he was scuba diving at 45 nearly a year ago when was was in the ER for p-itis 🫣 T4 in the normal range. I'll get all the results into the spreadsheet later.

Hock.... I still can't decide what to do 😩 Help! Surgery for either option can be done as early as next week. I'm not sure which option would be best 😵‍💫 Vet supports whatever decision I make.

We are rooting for you Leroy!!!
The only thing I can say about your surgery options is to apply the experience that I had several years ago when Ivy broke her hind leg. It was a freak accident and we had to take her to the ER on a holiday weekend when there were no surgeons available.
The options they gave us were to take her home once they put a splint on her broken leg and the following Tuesday they could do surgery if we chose that option. Otherwise, the option was to amputate.

I just couldn’t imagine with all she had going on and newly diabetic that we could handle amputation.
Thank God, my husband immediately said “we are fixing her leg”.
She had the surgery and it was several months of difficult restraining time (keeping her in a room where she could not jump or climb), but it was manageable. (I cried a lot)

Every day since, I have been thankful that we saved her leg with surgery (with rods, plates and screws).
So, if the doctor and surgeons feel that they can surgically repair Leroy’s leg and you can afford to do it, then you may want to consider that.
Sending you prayers, for whatever you decide is best 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

He didn't do too badly today with the MC.

The kidney powder is Porus One Porus One - for the support of feline kidney health Looks like Chewy has it for a little less than what the vet pharmacy charged the relative I sent to pick it up  I'll buy it from Chewy next time if this is something both cats need long term. Neither cat has had it yet. Leroy because it has to be given 2 hours after other oral medicines (the budesonide). Civvie because powder does not mix well with NV Raw Bites so I need to give her a little snack of canned or some of Leroy's snack later. She doesn't eat / like treats (never has) so something like a lickable treat won't work.

Money is not an issue. I just don't know if re-covering the exposed bone and putting a splint on and weekly all day trips to the vet for bandage changes is more stressful than having a three legged cat. But at the same time, if we amputate and the left leg needs to be taken off later for the same issue.... 🫣

The vet's secretary is tentatively scheduling something for next week. She has to coordinate with the surgeon. Because it's Leroy, the head surgeon will be doing the procedure. Usually you get whoever is available.

I will say that from everything I've heard, many cats tend to do just fine on three legs! But it may depend on how mobile they are otherwise, and I'd guess age is a factor too (in terms of adjusting to a new configuration/balance/etc). That's speculation on my part, though, not based on any actual experience. This isn't a vote for amputation by any means ... I genuinely have no clue how well the surgical intervention is likely to take or not, and maybe especially because of the effect diabetes has had on Leroy in terms of tissue regeneration? I'd probably go over the prognosis for each option with the vet carefully, maybe seek a second veterinary opinion if I wasn't satisfied with the level of explanation/detail, in order to decide.

Wishing you the best with the decision and the process, because I imagine both will be very stressful in the short-term, at least. Here to support you as always, and Leroy too of course.
