Good Morning LL peeps!!! Another cool morning here in the Ham and I struggled to get out of my warm toasty bed. But the spokesperson of the herd wouldnt be quiet about letting me know its time to eat.

Hoping today we get good news that my Mom gets to go home from the hospital!

Doogle is his normal self this morning. Although I really dont like this bouncing at night. Really not understanding why he has to be so different from other kitties (guess he comes by it honestly, not following a crowd). So we got our 2.5u, ate and now we are in our window.

So going to wake up, get dressed and head to the hospital.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day today!!

Hope she goes home soon that will take some stress off you, little Doogle doing what they do best, Lucky wouldn't let me stay in bed either, he has no sympathy for me when I'm sick it's all about his needs, MOL
Hope Doogle will surf nice for you tonight.

Well Doogle does what he does best, be green during the day (but will bounce tonight). Just got home from the hospital and they discharged my Mom. She was feeling pretty good but I told her we are going to have to make a hospital bag for her with clothes and such. All she had was her nightgown and robe for when she came in (which was Saturday and it was in the low 70s and its now upper 40s with 30 degree wind chills). But at least she got to go home. Now if we can make my Dad do somethings around the house instead of relying on her to do it all maybe she can stay out for awhile.

Importantly though is she gets to go home and recover.

Thank you to everyone for your support during this time. I really dont know how much longer I have with her so every minute and every prayer counts. :-D

Re: 3/25 Doogle PMPS 434

Dont know what to do about these horrible bounces. Should I go back down to 2.25u or skinny up the 2.5u? He is getting decent daytime nadirs but the bouncing from the is killing him at night. grr_red

Re: 3/25 Doogle PMPS 434

I wouldn't take him down. Usually what helps smooth out the bounces is a little more insulin and feeding a bit higher low carb food to keep the numbers from going too low.

He's pretty consistent....he's been doing these night bounces for quite some time and has gotten into red. The other thing you can try is giving him a bolus insulin like Humulin R as the bounce starts. Let us know if you'd like more info.

I'm do happy your mom is doing better and can go home.

Re: 3/25 Doogle PMPS 434

I think you have given me that info before but to refresh me, please tell me again what I can do. When I am here I do feed him a higher low carb around +2 or +3 but when I am gone its almost impossible to get the DH to do it. I wont take him down in dose. I know this dose is working but didnt know what else to do for the bounces at night. I guess I need to find a higher low carb than the FF Chunky versions that he will eat. Off to the food list!

Thanks Marje for all the info as always! I am glad my Mom is home as well. Now to get her to stay home for longer than a month....lol.

Re: 3/25 Doogle PMPS 434

When he bounces up, then he has a long way to come down to get to their green numbers. I've found that dropping fast sets off a worse bounce than low numbers. If you can flatten out those drops and bring the numbers up, then you can get that extra amount of insulin in him.

If you can consistently feed a higher % carb food and front load it, it might help him from dropping so much. It's time for DH training :-D

Re: 3/25 Doogle PMPS 434

moms are precious! i'm glad yours is home and safe now!

you give carbs to hold up the lower numbers so that you can give enough insulin to knock down the highs. you do have to be home or have some way of giving the food mid-cycle every cycle. do you have a timed feeder, donna? they can be really helpful for something like this.

Re: 3/25 Doogle PMPS 434

I do think I am going to type up an instruction sheet though for the DH. So when I do get a job he has instructions to go by. Before he was able to call me and I could talk but I may not have the ability to do that with a new company, so I would feel more comfortable leaving something for him to go by. I still cant get him to understand how food manipulates the numbers and how the liver reacts when numbers go to low. His brain is not wired to think that way.

Re: 3/25 Doogle PMPS 434

I do have a timed feeder but I have never used it (havent needed to). I am hoping that when I type up the instructions the DH will be able to follow it easier. Step by Step instructions is easier for his brain instead of winging it and remembering things (guess its a guy thing). But right now as I am home since I was laid off, I have been able to control things but now that Doogle has gotten into better numbers, my Mom went in the hospital and I couldnt be there every step. Doogle is such a drama king.....LOL.

Re: 3/25 Doogle PMPS 434+3 290

Came down over 100 points in 3 hours so I am going to feed him at +4 when the others eat. I will test him again just to see where he is.
