Good morning all and HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! Choco is doing good this morning. I'm not sure that he was loving the Friskies Turkey and Giblet food this a.m. but he didn't hate it so, I'll see how much of it he ate when I get home and decide if I'll be buying that again. I want you all to know that cats rule and dogs DROOL!!! I got home last night to the blinds in one of my kitchen windows completely twisted and broken into many pieces. Not ony that but the drooler was NOT in the kitchen where she was having to stay during the day due to her chewing problem. After I stood outside and said a few choice words while staring at my window I went in and had a few choice words for her as well. I guess she won this battle because I will not be keeping her in the kitchen anymore. However, if she chooses to keep using everything but her chew toys and bones that I've bought her, she will become a crated dog while I'm away. :O/ grr_red grr_red grr_red I hope everyone has great plans for the weekend. Good thing the culprit wasn't Choco! (Stu used to like to rake the blinds but Rusty leaves them alone). Nice AMPS for Choco today. I hope you can find a solution for your Drooler. Maybe just take down the blinds for a while!

You should look up tips on separation anxiety in dogs. Bones, kongs with peanut butter - an open crate with a blanket on it so they feel secure. Crating does sound worse than it is. They feel safe and secure in it - but it can NEVER be a place for punishment. It has to be associated with positive things for them.

Choco is on a roll!

Maria, do you have plenty of test strips, HC food?

I would stall 15 minutes and get another test....the +12.5 was the first test you got since you got home? You want to make sure he isn't dropping.

Thank you Laurie. I will test again at +12.75 (in another 5 min). If he has gone up even just a few numbers is it okay to shoot him? I do have enough strips and also HC food.

Sheesh....well, he's not dropping, but he's not rising. You could stall another 15-30 minutes and retest, if that won't make too much of a mess of your schedule. If it will, you could shoot now and start with a +0.5....but I would lean toward retesting if you can stall a bit more.

You've shot a 73...what do you think?

Oh my gosh, 60 is really low. What in the world is he doing?!?!? I'm going to test again in 3 minutes which will put us an hour behind schedule (+13) and then decide from there. Laurie was does +0.5 mean?

I know it's low, it would be nice to see a rise. How long can you stall without it being a problem with your schedule?

What is he doing? He's being a cat....they love to keep us on our toes! He's really doing wonderful, Maria. :-D

Well, he seems to be acting normal but he didn't have the biggest appetite tonight. He basically licked some of the water out of the LC food. I got him to eat a couple bites out of my hand so I will see where he is at .5. Thanks so much Laurie. :O)

When Maverick won't eat when I want to I put chicken dust on top and press it in a bit with the fork so he can't just lick it off. Do you have purebites freeze dried chicken?

You'll get a lot of data on how Choco handles low preshots.

Uuuuuhhhhh, I don't like that award. :roll: I don't have any freeze dried chicken here. My friend actually sent me some but she sent it to my sisters and I haven't picked it up yet. :sad: I do have some of this chicken sprinkle stuff I got in the dog food section that is supposed to entice them to eat their food. He's surfing....I would give him some higher carb food if you can get him to eat it, put some gravy on top if he likes gravy. The chicken dust is a good idea too if he won't eat...parmesan cheese, fortiflora are other good ideas. I have to drive home, I'll be back in 40 minutes. Get a +1....I'll see you as soon as I get in the door. Don't hesistate to put help in your subject line if you need to, ok?

What I have is called Shake-Ins. It's an all natural meal enhancer. It says with real roasted chicken (inulin for digestion-not sure what that is).

What high carb food do you have? Is any of them named "gravy" like chicken in gravy.

I was just teasing by the way. Every one of us that shoots those numbers the first time has the exact same post as you. I was SOOOO Nervous. Just the other day again for us. You'll do great. You've got Laurie and others to guide you if you need them.

He's gone up to 67 so I'm thinking I want to hold off on the HC food to see what he does and test again at +2.5. Does this sound ok?

Cool - what I see people posting is that the carbs are actually in the gravy not the food. SOme people try and give their cats just the gravy. Maybe they can explain how they do this - without filling their cats up on the food part.

I kinda had a hard time just getting gravy out of the FF cans so that's why I picked up this Vita Gravy. It's just straight gravy for cats so I thought this would work too. What do ya think?

I'm back. I know what you mean about the FF, separating the gravy is hard. I use 9 Lives for that reason, it's much easier to separate, and lots of gravy. I don't know what the carb level of the Vita Gravy is, do you?

It wouldn't hurt to put some gravy on a bit of LC at least, try to boost him a bit before the insulin onset...especially if he isn't eating well for you. You do have karo, right? Not saying you'll need it...just checking.

Yes, I do have Karo. I will feed him a little now with some of this gravy on top. I can't find the carb count for it though.

He just test at 57 +2 so I will test him again at +2.5. He ate a little bit but I might get better results with the FF gravy.

Hi Maria, You're doing fine. The trick for getting out the gravy is to use the lid of the can to press down on the food so the gravy rises to the top and you can spoon it off.

Carry on! You're in good hands with Laurie.

LOL :lol: :lol: :lol: Thanks Celia, I needed that laugh to wake me up. I'm a lil' sleepy tonight and it's obviously not a good night for that. I'm literally too tired to even go and visit condos. I know that is horrible but staring at this computer screen is making my eyes want to shut. I hope Binks has been having a good day like always.
