This week has flown by in a blur. Between a series of nearly unmanageable work deadlines (ugh) and a surprise visit from my totally precious and dearly beloved 20-year-old goddaughter and her parents (yay!!), it's been all I can do to keep Chispa tested and fed, let alone remembering to get a meal myself. aaaaagh .... when can I retire??? :arghh:

Luckily, ONE of us has been on a pretty even keel lately. Up until this morning, I would have ventured to say that we had finally gotten Chispa's bouncing under control! ... yeah, I crack myself up sometimes too.:p Anyway, last night's 57 may well have been followed by something lower, but since I had fallen dead asleep while DBF continued to shovel food into her, we'll never know.

As long as I'm full of extraneous commentary, here's a photo that I took while touring the cherry blossoms with my goddaughter and family and everyone else in the DMV. I think this tree must have been part of the original gift from Japan in 1912. It's obviously been through a lot, but it's still standing there like it has a job to do, and damned if anyone is going to stop it from shining with all that it's got!!! I don't know which impresses me more, the tree itself or the Park Service, which has pruned off every branch except one but still refuses to give up on it.

I think I am going to print this out and frame it for whenever I start to feel discouraged.

Happy weekend to all :bighug::cat::coffee:

that's a wonderful idea!!!! I love the photo and your sentiments are spot on. Mother Nature is truly amazing and tenacious!! She shows us in millions of ways that giving up is just not an option :):):). (a wonderful inspiration to us all) Hope life settles down and you get some rest Karen.... tell Chispa to look at those lovely calming blossoms and chill out and surf nicely, enough bouncy bounce already! :bighug::bighug:

Thanks, Melinda, and yes! I couldn’t help but see it as a message. I sent it to a friend who’s been struggling with one setback after another and she said it really helped. If only that tree knew how many people it might have inspired over the years! Yet it continues to show up even without knowing. Ok, maybe now I am over-humanizing it ... ;)

Despite the bounce, I am really pleased with Chispa's numbers today. She hasn't plummeted, even though I've been feeding her nothing but 4% all day. Maybe her little pancreas is getting better at regulating itself?

Even so, I'm the tiniest smidge concerned that she's been even quieter/less active than usual lately (she's never been a ball of fire, despite the "spark" in her name). She spends 95% of the day hanging out on her crinkly paper under the table or sleeping in her carrier "hut," whereas she used to spend the afternoons sunning on the windowsill near my desk, hanging out with me (the crinkly paper and hut are still within feet of me, though). Her gait is still a little uneven despite the Cosequin, especially when she gets up, and the fastest she ever moves is a quickened walk when following me to her "dining lounge" when she's especially hungry. (For any fans of "Frasier," if you remember Martin trying to hustle with his four-pronged cane, that's about what it looks like.) On the up side, her coat looks great, she cleans her plate at every meal, and she's pooping like a champion -- now without benefit of the "prescription" renal diet that used to keep her on an even keel. Is it possible that she's simply marshaling all her energy towards healing???

can I just say YES!!!!????? (no science)..... and Kitkat did have active and inactive days that made me wonder as well. Zoomies and then 5 days of pretty much sleeping (until the fuds came out) lol. We all can get wrapped up in our brains and be hypervigilant. I think the real answer is probably.... ECID. :banghead:;)

I saw a stat recently on another group, from an IM vet, saying that something like 90% of cats at age 17 have arthritis. Chispa's not much younger. I'm wondering if Cosequin is no longer doing it for her, it's pretty mild. Have you talked to your vet about trying Solensia? When Neko's arthritis started getting worse, hanging around not doing much was the sign. Treating it got her playing again. Unfortunately Solensia wasn't around then.

Hi Wendy -- I hadn't heard of Solensia until now. I'll email vet and see what she says. Thanks!!
