Yesterday's condo

I'm at my wits end with China's numbers. I don't see any good reason for the craziness! She hasn't had this many pink numbers in quite awhile, and why is her PMPS readings for the last 4 days so high?

Her appetite is definitely bad too during the PM cycle since the wonky numbers.

Time to increase back to 1.75? Any other ideas?

We're taking it easy today. DM and I are both still pretty exhausted from yesterday's shopping spree, as well as just plain hurting. Tomorrow morning the movers will be at her house to pick up the furniture that we're moving from there to the apartment, and the furniture we bought is supposed to be delivered sometime between 8-12. I just hope we survive getting this move done.

Hope you're all having a nice Tuesday, and sending vines to those who need them.

Re: 3/25 China AMPS 187,+3 191 Eyes needed please

This is likely a bounce off of the 58 the other morning. It's quite possible that China's numbers were even a bit lower. I'd give this dose a few more cycles to see if the numbers come back down. With a 58, you don't have much room to increase.

Re: 3/25 China AMPS 187,+3 191 Eyes needed please

i agree these numbers are a bounce from that 58.

but what i'm more concerned about than bouncing numbers are your comments on the ss that she's got no appetite for several days now. Can you say more about how she's feeling and behaving - the 5 P's? Have you tried the typical things to tempt her to eat?

Re: 3/25 China AMPS 187,+3 191 Eyes needed please

She's been pretty much normal other than she just isn't eating near as much as she used to.

I'm a concerned about her "meatloafing" today though (if I understand it right). I've caught her several times today with her paws tucked up under her and just laying there. At PMPS time, I pushed around on her belly but didn't get any reaction from her

She definitely eats better in the morning, but just isn't eating as much as she has been, especially in the evenings. No puking, just doesn't seem to be hungry.

I've tried her favorite flavor of FF mixed with a little of her normal raw but she's always eaten the raw well. I can't afford the FortiFlora and being the end of the month, even the cost of some of the other things is too much right now. First of the month is coming, but not fast enough

If this is a bounce off the 58, it sure is out of character for her to still be this high so long after. I wasn't really surprised at last night's PMPS but she had been coming down nicely overnight, just to jump up again today to a high blue surf. She usually clears bounces within one cycle

Anyone have a good picture of what "meatloafing" looks like?

No playing, but that's kind of normal...she's not a big player but when she does play, it's fun to see. Peeing and pooping are a little harder since there are 4 cats, but she does purr for me occasionally when I'm doing her ear poke

Re: 3/25 China AMPS 187,+3 191 Eyes needed please

is she playing and seeming happy other than not eating as much? preening?

if you think she's meatloafing, she might have something going on that needs attention. hard to say - of course pancreatitis is the bane of our diabetic kitties, but she could be not feeling good from something else too. i guess i'd keep trying to get her to eat and if she's still seeming "off" tomorrow, i'd probably check with the vet.

punkin only "meatloafed" a couple of times, but one was when he had a pancreatitis flare-up. he liked to lay with his feet under him, it was when he put his head face down from that position that i really paid attention. plus he wouldn't eat and seemed to obviously not feel good.

have you tried the things to tempt her to eat? heating it up, sprinkling catnip, parmesan, oregano, or tuna water (no onion/garlic) on top? adding on her favorite treats - freeze dried chicken, etc? rotisserie chicken is usually irresistible (to me too! )

Re: 3/25 China AMPS 187,+3 191 Eyes needed please

Hi Chris,

I'm so sorry that I can't help you interpret China's numbers. I did want to mention - for whatever it's worth - that I occasionally use IntelliFlora with my outdoor cats. I believe it's basically the same as FortiFlora. It was quite a bit cheaper than FortiFlora when I bought it (from Amazon). I haven't checked prices lately. I completely understand the money issue; life is expensive enough without a diabetic cat.

I'm keeping you and China in my thoughts and prayers!

Re: 3/25 China AMPS 187,+3 191 Eyes needed please

She's not acting sick, she's just not acting "right". It's hard to describe...it's just a feeling in the pit of your stomach that something's different (I mean other than the obvious not eating well)

Since she's not a big player, it's hard to say if there's a change. She can go for days without me catching her doing anything, and then play all day, then go back to doing nothing.

Have tried catnip since I have some around, but right now don't have any tuna and parmesan cheese isn't something I usually have around since I'm not a big fan of it. I see the price on it at the store and it's more than I'd usually pay for something I never use.

China's one that doesn't believe freeze dried anything is edible. I've tried every freeze dried treat I could find and she's never eaten one bite. I do have some baby food...maybe she'll eat that.

Shelly, thanks for the idea, but the reason we suggest the FortiFlora is because of the animal digest. That's what they spray on kibble to make it so irresistible to eat. The IntelliFlora doesn't contain animal digest (although it looks like it'd be great probiotic to use for diarrhea...And cheaper too!)

At this point in the month, there's just nothing left. I have to go to my pain clinic appointment on Thursday so my last $20 is earmarked for gasoline.

Maybe she'll like the babyfood...I really don't want to use high carb food but I guess if she doesn't eat more, I'll break it out. I don't want her not eating enough..of course that'll shoot her numbers up.

With everything I've got going on this week with the move, and China's vet over an hour away, getting her up there would be a heck of a challenge

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

you asked what the position looked like... here you go....

I might suggest you get some different can of ff.... like trout feast... or something China doesn't get normally..... see if she's just really bored with her food....
I get that a lot here and get worried.

And I just looked back in my pm's....
I sent you that sampling of turkey giblet treats back in December... Did she like that?

Re: 3/25 China PMPS 194,+3.5 121 Eyes needed

Thanks Rhiannon!

Yeah, that's what I had pictured it being, and yes, I've caught her behind the couch like that and down on the floor. It's not a position she's usually in.

The weirdest part is that her appetite in the morning is more normal (but I'd still say a little off) but it's much more noticeable at night. She wasn't a fan of the treats you sent Rhiannon, although the civvies loved them.

She did just eat about a teaspoon of babyfood. I'll try to get her to eat a little more soon

Re: 3/25 China PMPS 194,+3.5 121 Eyes needed

that was punkin's favorite position - the way i knew he was "off" was when he put his face straight down in front of him with his eyes facing the floor, not stretched out.

glad she's eating the babyfood. little progress is still progress!

Re: 3/25 China PMPS 194,+3.5 121 Eyes needed

I guess that is the question.....is this position unusual for China? Some cats, my Tobey for example and even Gracie to some extent, like to lie like this but always have. If a cat is lying in this position and never has before, I would suspect tummy acid. Normally it's more prevalent for cats to have an acid tummy in the morning because they haven't eaten over night.

While I'm generally not a big fan of giving anti acids without knowing if the kitty has a condition requiring them, if $$ are tight! you could try 1/4 10 mg Pepcid AC 30 mins before she eats in the evening or also a Zantac 75 dosed at .25 mg/ lb every 8-12 hours but can be dosed as much as 1mg/LB every 8-12 hours.

No, she doesn't normally sit like that Marje. Since I've learned about "meatloafing", I'm always looking out for it, and today's been the first time I've seen her in that position for a very long time. She's sat like that rarely throughout her life, and I never thought anything of it other than it was kind of cute....Cat with no paws and all...but since the diagnosis, it's something I watch for.

I'll see how she is tomorrow..if she's still acting "off", I'll try giving her a little antacid before dinnertime and see if that helps.

If it weren't so out of the ordinary for her, I'd be happy she's eating less. She could stand to lose a little of her uh..."fluffiness"

Thanks for brainstorming with me everyone.

Better get off here so I can get up all bright eyed and bushy tailed for the big move in the morning!

Chris, has China ever had pancreatitis? When Max has an attack his appetite tanks. Could there be nausea? That is Max's symptom and I give him ondansetron for it. I hope that isn't the problem but often the only symptom is the cat just isn't feeling right or acting right. If it persists I would get an fPL test to be sure that isn't the issue. I hope it isn't that.

Elise

No, she's never had pancreatitis, but seeing how many other diabetic cats have problems with it is the reason I've been vigilant about watching for her to be "meatloafing".

She ate a little better this morning, although still not really acting hungry (like she really should have been considering how little she ate last night) but overall she seems ok...no lip smacking or vomiting and she doesn't seem to be in any pain when I palpate her belly

I guess I'll just keep watching her as best I can as we get this move over with. She's eating some, just not as much as she has been and any time something changes, I take notice..especially if it continues more than a little while like this appetite thing has

If money weren't a big factor, I would have tried to find time to get her to the vet, but her vet is an hour away and this "move" week has been planned out for awhile now. I sure could use a clone of myself...maybe several of them!!

Thanks again everyone for the ideas and the help.
