Vet got most of the test results back. She said there was a lot of bacteria in her urine so she definitely has a UTI, and to continue the antibiotics for 10 days and then we'll do a follow-up urinalysis to make sure the infection is cleared. According to her, we caught it pretty early, which was good. She said there was some glucose and I think protein in the urine, obviously because of the higher numbers she had been having, but the fructosamine actually showed she was decently regulated and the vet was happy about that, and we will of course continue to work on getting the BGs better (at first I refused the fructosamine since I test at home, but I finally just said go ahead and do it). She said BUN levels were starting to kind of creep up a little bit (I think she said 40 or 14? but not 100% sure; I was at work when she called; once all the results are in, I'll ask for a copy so I have the exact numbers) and so were triglycerides, which could mean her kidneys are working a little harder than they need to; she thinks because of a high protein diet. We're not sure if the numbers look like that because of the short time she was on the Elsey's. The plan is to re-test in about 6 months and see if they're better or if we need to do a diet change. I asked her about the cataracts and she insisted they were not from old age but from diabetes; she said the cataracts were not fully formed, were partial, and were not affecting her vision now. Sounds like they're newish or may have been slowly forming. When I asked about surgery and her seeing a specialist, the vet said I can get her checked but they don't do surgery unless the BGs are well regulated because otherwise the cataracts can come back. Overall she didn't sound overly concerned about anything, though I'm of course concerned now about making sure her kidneys are ok. She also said to continue with the Mirtazapine every 72 hours and giving the 3 units of insulin.
