A quick update since I have been a member for a few months but haven't really posted much..just reading and learning!!I only started doing Tuxie's spreadsheet this month but I have been testing sonce the beginning of December, so he did not start off this high a dose. He has been steadily going up in .25 units for the last 3 months, since he started Levemir(started at 2u when we switched from Lantus) rather than Lantus(started at 1u and was up to 3.5u before we switched)

Tuxie had a low number on March 21 and it was suggested I drop his dose by .25 units.

It has been 4 shots (2 cycles) at the reduction of 4.5 from 4.75. He seems to have gotten over his bounce and gone back into highish flat numbers.

I am thinking of going back to the 4.75u for his PM shot. Does anyone have an opinion on whether this is okay or should I hold him one more cycle?

Thanks
Mary Ann

No dosing advice but I do have a suggestion. I see the 45 and why the decrease was taken but he came back up so fast that next time it happens I would test again. You don't need to prick the ear again but just get a second reading. I have done that and found out that the low number was not really low. I have a back up meter and have done a third test to triple check. Sometimes if I don't have enough blood or have too much I get an odd reading. Just something to possibly consider.

Thanks for the reply.

I did do several readings when he hit the 45 and they were the same. Plus after he hit that low..which for him is VERY unusual I was just on my way to bed and I panicked a bit and gave him some syrup and HC food to keep him from going lower and then doing a big bounce. I ended up staying up anyway since I was concerned and I have learned to do with almost no sleep these last 4 months (not really..but I do) In 4 months since his dx he has only hit green numbers twice. The other time was 81 on March 9 and I gave him a bit of regular food at that time. Tuxie has mostly run the black, red and pink numbers until this month.

Since he seems to be high and even again I wondered if I should up his dose back to 4.75 for his PM dose in 1 1/2 hours??

That's good that you rechecked. I didn't know. It can take 6 cycles to clear a bounce but with these numbers I think you have room to increase but please get other replies to make sure others agree.

That is what I was thinking but I just wanted to get some feedback since it looks like he has cleared his bounce.

Anytime I get a wonky number that just doesn't fit I will test 2, 3 or 4 times to make sure it is correct. Thank goodness Tuxie is good about having his ear poked numerous times each day..what a good boy he is :)

We like to include those so people can look back at what was discussed previously.

I see you've increased. I would have waited one more cycle so you'd have had 6 cycles after the low number. In case he does decide to clear his bounce today, I'm make sure you get a few tests in - which you are great at getting anyway.

I was debating on letting him go one more cycle but since his numbers seemed flat and high and his PS was higher I decided to do the extra .25 units. I will be testing a few times tonight..at least up until his +6 hour since that seems to be when the nadir usually happens. If he goes wonky I can be up late since I did manage to grab a bit of a nap today.

Thanks for putting the link to yesterday's post in. Since I haven't posted much up until now I don't know how to do some of those things.
