Mikey has been on Pregnisone since 3/8 until 3/22 for a urinary infection but since stopping he is bouncing big time
Should I up his dose or wait. I know steroids can be tricky with insulin.

Thanks ,
Tom;)

Do you mean prednisilone? It's a steroid given to cats, though not typically for urinary tract infections. Normally an antibiotic is given instead. What is the pred dose and how long do you have to give it?

Mikey is not bouncing. Cats bounce when they go lower than they are comfortable with, or do a fast drop. What is happening is that the prednisilone (if that's what it is) is impacting his blood sugars. Pred does not cause a bounce.

I'm glad you increased. Most people with cats on pred find they have to increase to combat the BG impacts. Actually, before starting pred he needed an increase because he wasn't seeing any numbers under 150.

Yes, it was Pregnisilone. He completed taking it on 3/22 He was not responding to the antibiotic , so the vet prescribed this for his urinary issue. It worked.
But these high numbers post the steroid are disturbing; although it has only been 3 days. Hopefully he will level

What was the prednisolone dose, and how long did you give it to him? Starting what date? It's really handy to put information like "start pred x mg" in the Remarks section of the spreadsheet, on the day he started it, and same when he ended it. It makes it easier for us to figure out the impact.

He started a 5mg dose on 3/8 to 3/22.
His last dose was 3/22, and of course it was a taper procedure. I did not even think of noting in the spread sheet. Thanks

I've seen responses both immediate and not immediate to removing prednisolone. Keep on this dose 7 days (if that is what you are doing) and see if the numbers start coming down. Try to get those 4 tests a day in case it does.
