I'm going to open the new insulin pen after I talk to the pharmacist tomorrow because I always kept everything refrigerated and recently I read that you're supposed to keep it refrigerated prior to opening, and then once opened you supposed to leave it out so I got to find out

Hi Karen, you want to refrigerate unopened AND opened pens. For humans that use a lot more insulin than our kitties, they leave their pens out, in the briefcase, their pocket books , on the kitchen counter, et. because they are going to be using their pens up very quickly. The shelf life for unrefrigerated pens is 28 days. But, since our kitties are using such a small amount of insulin a day compared to humans, we refrigerate our opened pens and they will last 6 months. My present pen I am using will be 6 months old in a few weeks. Then I will start another one.
