Hi everyone. I know for sure I got 0.1U into Falafel this morning. Why could her numbers be looking like this - flat, but definitely increasing?

Considerations: she is on Clavamox for a UTI, and I gave her butternut squash and Miralax in her food since she hasn't pooped in 2 days. I am guessing the constipation could be keeping BGs high.

Also, yesterday I smelled ketones on her fur where she cleaned herself. That smell is gone this morning. We'll have updated labs from the vet on Monday to compare to my nose senses...

It’s the first dose of .10. It almost always takes more than one dose to effect the bg as the new depot needs to build. I’d get some ketone urine test strips.

Thanks for the reminder. I feel like I ask the same 5 questions in all my posts :P

I have the Ketostix strips but she doesn't let me catch her peeing often (she usually waits til I'm asleep to go). I just bit the bullet on the Keto Mojo meter, it should arrive in a couple days.

Thank you. I wish I could fast forward so her insulin depot is built back up already!! But now I think I do smell fruitiness on her fur again :( It's very slight though. On a side note, I'm glad I have a strong sense of smell because the last time I smelled ketones on her, her urine test came back negative (both at home and at the vet), but her blood test had high readings and she was in DKA! So, I need to trust my nose!

Would anyone have thoughts on this routine for tomorrow (I will be gone from 8am-10pm and my sister is handling PMPS for me). I want to make sure Falafel gets some fluids tomorrow too especially since I'm nervous about the ketones.

AMPS - proceed like normal. Get the +2 reading, and give her 25 mL of SubQ fluids. Leave out plenty of food. My sister will get home at AM +7 or +8 and can monitor, but I have noticed Falafel does not experience a BG drop with the SubQ so I'm not as worried about this. I won't be home til PM +4 or +5 and don't want to wait til then to give fluids.
 
Small update - managed to get a ketone urine test. We're negative, but from past experience I know it's better to trust my nose. Going to assume we have ketones until she starts smelling right and/or I get the blood meter and can confirm that way.
 
There are different types of ketones, the urine test just checks one of them. Good thing your nose works!

Did you give fluids today yet? I liked giving fluids after nadir, when the numbers were trending up anyway. Just in case.

Yes I gave fluids today at AM +7! She’s also eating really well so far. We’re almost done with can 2. :cat:
