I haven't quite gotten my act together in filling Tiki's insulin prescription which awaits me at Walgreen's. But thought I'd first ask if there is a better way of obtaining the insulin more economically. Are there better pharmacy's to use, online providers, coupons? Anyone have any secrets I should know about? The last time I only ended up getting one vial and he was OTJ before it expired/ran out. I ended up getting more syringes than insulin.

Thanks in advance!

I'd send a PM to TheBowHuntress. She has said she is able to get her Lantus at a really really good price, using a coupon, I think.

If you look in The Supply Closet, I think there are some coupons listed there as well.

Hello! I did some price-comparisons when my Ripley was Dx in Nov -- here is what I found in No. Calif.:

store / Lantus vial / Lantus pens:

Walmart / $150 / ?
Costco / $137 / $252 for 5 pens
Target / $152 / $265 for 3 pens
Walgreens / $138 / $258 for 5 pens

You don't need to be a Costco member to use their pharmacy.
I've heard of some pharmacies selling just 1 pen, but I've yet to find one near me.

I called around too and found Walgreens to be the best priced (IF i buy a $20 discount card, whatever...   ) but couldn't find any discounts or coupons that worked. I was told by CVS that they would sell one pen for $70.00. I asked her a few times and each time she said yes, ONE pen, but given no one else does I can't help but think she was wrong.

Try checking at hospital outpatient pharmacies. They frequently are breaking apart boxes of pens and there may be a better chance of their selling you a single pen.

My local Kinney's Pharmacy sells single pens of Levemir for $54. They don't mind breaking up a box at all.

Good luck, Tonya. Sorry you are back, but nice to see you again. I hope Tiki will be back at the Falls very soon.

Hi Tonya

I haven't had a chance to put out the welcome mat but I'm sorry Tiki is back from the Falls and I hope it will be a quick trip.

One thing that is important is we will want you to be a little more aggressive this time around to try and get him right back into remission.

Good luck getting back into the swing of it all and please let us know how we can help.

Hi Tonya,

I was able to get a single pen from CVS pharmacy using the Lantus savings card coupon from their website and only paid $25. Not too bad. I looked on the CVS website and there are 10 locations in the Sacramento area. I hope you can find something soon. Keep shopping around, it really helps find the best deal. In my area, many will only sell the 5 pack of the pens.
Good luck.
