AMPS-323, shot 0.60u

Hi everyone, Another day and Harley is perking up a little. He snuggled with me last night and also for a little while overnight. He woke up at 4:30 a.m. and ate the rest of his dinner from the night before (apparently he didn't get the memo that we changed the food/shot schedule, he thinks we're still doing TID). So his AMPS was a bit food-induced.

This may sound selfish but if it takes these higher numbers for him to be happy, then I'll gladly ride the sugarcoaster. If only it were healthy for him though...

+6 was 131 :-D

That's a nice +6. Yah Harley! Glad he is a little more perky and hungry. Hopefully, the sugar coaster is only the Pacreatitis and soon ends.

Me loving snuggling too! cat_pet_icon

PMPS=165, oh boy, what to shoot.

He's already eaten - my BF tells me he snacked a little just before I got home from work so wait and test is kind of moot. I'm thinking of going for something between 0.4-0.6u.

Thoughts? When I backed off on the dose yesterday morning it was too little insulin.

Re: 3/23 Harley AMPS 323 PMPS 165 - What to Shoot?

I think I would be conservative and do .4 IMHO, this whole thing has gotten trickier and harder to predict with the pancreatitis. Better in the yellows than too far down in the greens, particularly overnight? Or am I too cautious? I am thinking you don't want any chance of hypo numbers when you might want him to eat and he is still feeling crummy?

I don't think you are too cautious, sometimes I'm too reckless! It's hard to predict what he'll do. One time a 0.50 will nadir at +3 and he'll be on his way up at +6. But then with the same dose, the day before yesterday, he stayed in blue numbers up until PMPS. I've never done a 0.4 so it'd be a learning experience. I think I'll grab another quick test - food induced though it may be - and be back.

Now it's 209 with food in him. And I will be giving him his juice bar (blueberry pommagranite) tonight and that usually picks up his appetite.

I'm thinking 0.5 or 0.6. Is that too reckless?

And I'll raise a yeah for SubQ fluids. They are like necter of the gods. Harley's been picking at food all day and within an hour of his juice bar treatment he destroyed half a can of Fancy Feast.

+2 was 179

Hurray for snuggling and for nice low numbers. You are doing a great job!

Awww, thanks Judy! BTW I did call the pharmacy today and talked to a compunding pharmacist about alternative ways to administer prednisolone. They can do a liquid and a transdermal gel! I asked about the liquid because I know that stuff tastes terrible and the pharmacist said instead of just using regular prednisolone, they use prednisolone sodium phosphate. The sodium phosphate binds to the prednisolone in suspension so that it's tasteless going down and then the product is broken down into the two separate parts in the stomach so the prednisolone can go to work. Sounds good in theory. I think they can also add flavorings so that it tastes better too. I asked about the absorption of the transdermal gel and he said that steroids are absorbed very well through the skin - not so with other larger molecules.

So if I have to start prednisolone again, I now know what to ask for. Thanks to you and dear Squamee for the tip!

That's funny, I just called the pharmacy today too - realized I was running out of Prednisolone faster than expected. They said the same thing (though I didn't get all that great info, good stuff to know!) - liquid, transdermal gel, and chewy treats. I know with the Budesonide liquid with chicken flavor added Pippa LOVED it, thought it was a treat, so once I win the lottery  I think I will switch her to the liquid Prednisolone. Their costs were in the $50 range for a months supply including tax & shipping (vs. $9 at Walmart for the pills).

We'll have to compare notes to see how Pippa & Harley like their liquid prednisolone - I just picked Harley's up today from my local compounding pharmacy and they even flavored it with real, fresh chicken for me. Not cheap, but for same day service I'd pay $30 for a week's supply. If we end up doing this long term I'd look into other options.

Budesonide+chicken=heaven, hmmmmm.
