Chase's numbers have been slightly elevated. It has to be the food. I must find the right food.

I don't understand. The food I'm feeding him has the same carb content, but if you look at his SS it's obvious that his numbers are up and it started right when I switched him from a fish flavor (since he's allergic to tuna) to a turkey flavor.

We were so close to going OTJ. I just gave away about $20.00 in cat food to my neighbor because it was fish. Chase hasn't thrown up since Sunday so that's good. But his numbers are up.

Converting to raw is going to cost me more money to start, and I just don't know if I have it. What is the BEST canned cat food, if I have to going with that for now? People have shared, with me, what they feed their cats but is there a certain reason that they chose that particular food? Did they do research?

It can be discouraging at times for sure. All these little things add up, I didn't realize how much I was spending just on litter since he goes so many times a day until I got odd looks buying 5 pails at once. I think I got the "crazy cat guy" look from a few shoppers.
If you have the option you can mix up the tests a little, grab a +6 a few days a week or anytime the +1 is a little lower then usual. The +6 should be around nadir time which would be a good time to test.

Do you have an auto-feeder? Amazon has them for $20-$40 and that can help keep the numbers in a good range while you are gone with a midday snack.

His numbers are looking good, paws crossed they can come down just a smidge so he can get an OTJ trial!

Hey Sandi, why don't you call the FoodFurLife company about the EZ complete and ask them to send you a sample so you can see if Chase is going to take to raw before you invest in a bag of it and before you buy a scale. Before, I bought the digital kitchen scale, I took the 1/2 pound of meat and divided it into 1/2 ( eyeballing it ) and into 1/2 again and another 1/2 which gave me approximately 1 oz for each pile of meat. Eventually I wanted to make sure that I was giving exactly 1 oz at a serving. But, you could try the above before you make any investment to make sure he'll eat it.

You might have to mix a tsp of the raw into his can food at first and then each feeding you would add more raw and less can. I didn't have to do that with my guys because of them being hunters and used to eating raw but for house cats that is they way to do it.

When Boomer's levels jumped up last fall I blamed fancy feast since there had been rumours that their formulas had changed. But changing the food didn't seem to help and we started insulin again.
Last night (because of Boomer's nighttime neediness) I mixed some ff ocean whitefish and tuna with this other food. And this morning's AMPS was 173 which is really high for him.
The food situation with our babies is enough to drive us beans crazy!

Yes it is... especially when you think you KNOW how to do the food thing. Turns out... Chase's pancreas doesn't agree with what I think I know. :( LOL

I do have an auto feeder. I will just keep trying. :)

I used to say I could invest in litter because I bought so much of it. But now that Chase's diabetes is better under control, that isn't the issue anymore. He pees like a normal cat, for the most part. LOL

Can't you also gently cook the meat? I've started getting tge fosters used to chicken thighs I bake and they now love it. I'm a little scared to go raw. Haven't tried adding the EZ sample yet.

Yes, some peeps do just that, partially cook the meat to get the kittie accustomed to it. If you are only giving the cooked chicken thighs and no canned food , you will need to start adding the EZ complete as the cooked chicken isn't a complete nutritional meal. They need the calcium, taurine, omega 3's. liver, etc, that the added supplements give them. And if you can't transition from you own cooked meats to raw, the kitties are better off in IMHO than eating the canned. (as long as you add the supplements)

Lisa doesn't trust the amount of bone in them and if too much they can get a blockage from constipation. No worry with EZ as it doesn't contain bone. She doesn't list any raw or fd raw this time.

Did you do the +9 snack/meal today?

I’ve got plenty of EZ Complete and an extra small scale if you want to try it all out first without buying anything but meat.

I would definitely test him with a raw sample first before going all in.
When I was trying to convert Shadow to raw, I learned that sometimes cats don't recognize raw as food if they've never seen it before.
The way around that is to persistently show them raw every meal, next to the one they will eat and supposedly as some point,
they will succumb. ( that frustrated me)
I believe they are some stores that have free frozen samples like bravo, or primal. At least they used to, I haven't looked this year.
I don't know if the freeze dried varieties offer that option.

Sure. I'd be happy to try it if I don't have to spend that money. Because I really don't have it. :(

I have not been giving him snacks. I thought I was only giving him snacks to bring his numbers down. His numbers have been up. So I haven't been feeding him past +5.5. Is that wrong?
