Good morning Lantus Land ~O) ~O) ~O) ,

Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=39439

Yesterday was blue skys for Attie and we're waking to a sunny yellow and lots of playing. Last night I fell asleep watching Dancing with the Stars and woke to Attie and MudCat involved in a vigorous  game of chase, hide and seek. Normally MudCat is content to be chased, but last night I noted through sleepy eyes she was giving as good as she got!!! Watching Attie runaway from her for a change.... :-D

Gary this morning is again complaining about his confinement. It is interesting that he doesn't seem to know what toys are and moving toys seem to scare him? Of course they said the same about Krueger...never play, never be a lap cat etc...but within a few weeks of being "home" that all changed. Maybe it will for Gary...maybe not. I am strongly thinking though I need to upgrade him to my den.

In home socialization:

Now that Gary has had his shots, fleas are gone, and the sniffles seems to going away it is time to start some serious socialization. Some of the challenges I note with him will be his fearfulness, lack of play motivation, and some lack of curiosity.

The fearfulness makes it difficult in that an unguided house tour is out of the question at this time. The fearfulness doesn't let me pick him up or truly handle him in any manner. While I can comb, brush, and pet him while he is on the cat tree, anywhere else triggers the flee response. I am thinking some serious den time is a direction to go in. (I'll have to tidy up the den some more :? )

Lack of play motivation: This presents its own problems in that there is not a toy etc. that can help with him not getting bored. He is still a tomcat for the next few weeks. This puts his hormones at the front stage of lots of his behaviors. Roaming or the desire to roam is just part of it.

Well look at that...I just caught Attie with his paws between the towel and under the door. Purring...

Lack of curiosity: Every cat is curious. The fact that Gary is not displaying that behavior right now is not too worrisome. Again, I think it is a fear and trust issue.

The Secret of the Den

My office, the den, has just one hiding place for cats. The rest of the den is "open" with shuttered windows looking out to the family room and the backyard beyond that. It is a place I personally spend lots of time in completing computer time, paperwork, filing, and scheduling. I was told Krueger would have issues very similar to what Gary is having. So instead of giving him a bed to hide under and only a few minutes of my time each shift...I put Krueger in the den. And just let him come around on his own and get accustomed to me. This took about two weeks and progressed very quickly.

I bet Gary will like the den, after a day or two or three, once he's used to it.

I hope you all have a good day :-D

I think you have a gift with animals. Attie purring at the door was adorable and Mudcat chasing Attie - go girl!!!

Glad Gary is still improving. Hope he comes around in the den like Krueger did. That was a beautiful picture.

Good morning guys .. a nice sunny yellow for atlas this morning .. I bet those blues skies make their appearance before to long! I also think you have a gift with animals, and I think it is wonderful gary found you .. have a great day guys!

wow - nice plan for Gary - I think you may win this war. I hope so anyways. I agree with Devon and Karrie - you do have a gift with animals.

What a nice photo oh Krueger!

Too funny with Attie and his paw under the door. Go Attie!

have a great day guys - seems to be starting out well for Attie. :-D

Bwahahahha....

No den shuttle today. Got it all set-up for the change and Gary decided he wanted to stay under the bed!!!

Maybe I will just have to go sleep in his room tonight....

Attie is coming back down nicely this evening.
