Rosy AMPS 162 Although I love to see her in the blue, but it's a surprise blue since yesterday's purple & red.
Gave her the canned + Wellness & 1.25u

For today & tomorrow, I'll stick with the Wiskas loaf type canned + Wellness Core + steamed chicken for Rosy's meal. See if there is a great difference in her bg Vs having her usual Wiskas Ocean Fish.

:?: Anybody has ways to make cat eat slower? Rosy always gobble down her food & quickly get to clean up the leftovers of her fellow housemates. After eating so fast, she'll throw up. The all she can eat just cannot apply to Rosy. Is she hungry? Judging by the amount of food I gav , she shouldn't be. I am feeding 4 small meal a day plus supper at 3am. CAnnot leave food out because of my other 20 will get to it.

Binks was never a "gobbler" until we moved in with the Adoptocats...
They were left on their own for 6 years and are very aggressive about food.
He had always had relaxed and groovy roommates who didn't try to steal his food.

My solution was to feed him in a different room...
not sure if that will work for you and Rosy with as many kitties as you have...

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162 How to make her eat slowly?

i haven't tried it, but i've heard people suggest putting a golf ball in the bowl. then they have to work around the ball to get the food down.

 poor kitty having to eat with a ball in their face!

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162 How to make her eat slowly?

Hi Celi,
Rosy is eating from her own plate & the others will not go to her food. My kitties dont share the same bowl, you can imagine $meal a day x 21 cats + 84 dishes/plates to wash. I am thinking we are running a kitty restaurant here!

Julie,
I cannot to this to Rosy; eating with a golf ball in her plate, poor thing! What I am doing is trying to lift her plate higer; not putting it on the floor so that she has to reach out to have the food. Or sometimes, I spoon feed her so that she can eat slowly.

Rosy AM +1.5 187 gave a bit food since she's hungry & asking for more ( when is she not doing so? ) I wish she can remain in the blue today...

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+1.5 187 How to make her eat slowly

Rosy looking great today, make sure to get her mid-cyle I think this will provide valuable information today. I would love to see what happens with the golf ball - the look on Rosy's face would be priceless  but it does sound like something that might work though, or just give a spoon at a time for Rosy, but this takes more of your time...

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+1.5 187/+5 95 I see green!!

I see green! I see green! Just when I was hoping Rosy will stay on the blue, she gave me a green!

AM +5 95! Gave her canned food. Will test at +6

:?: Is that the fabulous Australian Wiskas giving us the green numbers? or really, did Vyktors gave her a lecture?

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+1.5 187/+5 95/+6 106 I see green!!

AM+6 106 in the blue! Is she going to raise further ....

:?: Is AM +5 95 her nadir? Food was given after +5, is that a food effect?

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+1.5 187/+5 95/+6 106/+7 76

+7 76 Should I be worried Rosy will go further down? should I give her food now? Her next small meal will be due in 1.5 hrs time

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+1.5 187/ 106/+7 76/+8.5 68

+8.5 68 Time for the last meal before PM shot. Gave Whiskas loaf + Wellness core

:?: Should I expect a blue & green for the PM or will Rosy bounce?

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+1.5 187/ 106/+7 76/+8.5 68

Go Rosy go    - yes the rise after +5 looks like it was caused by food because then she went back down again. Was that a regular meal time for her or did you feed the green?

Who knows what Rosy will do come shot time - this is why we need to do the PS test  the chances are she will not be lower than she is at the moment though. If you want a sneak preview to get an idea where she might be you could get a +10 or a +11. this will also give you time to post for advice if per chance she is lower or lower than you feel comfortable about.

Hi Serryn! Did you have a great day today? At work?

Today I fed Rosy as scheduled, no extra food given but just stayed with the fabulous Australian Wiskas + Wellness Core ( actually the Wellness is a 13% carb, so it's a medium carb meal; not exactly LC)

Whenever she reaches those green numbers, I am so tense as Im afraid she'll fall further to a hypo. We need to see the green & yet we are so afraid when they are in the green.

:?: If I dont give her any food at those numbers, will she fall to a hypo? Because Rosy should have passed the nadir, I'd expect her bg to raise even w/o additional food. Am I right?

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+1.5 187/ 106/+7 76/+8.5 68

You might try freezing some of her food in an ice cube tray. When you feed her you give her only about 1/2 of her meal as room temperature and the rest as frozen. Hopefully she will eat just the room temperature food and come back later for the rest as it thaws. Might work.

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+1.5 187/ 106/+7 76/+8.5 68

I think I would do another test in an hour, since she's in the 60s and post your number. What a nice cycle Rosy cat_pet_icon

Thanks Linda for that tips ! But that might not work for Rosy because she's got 20 other furry roommates around. They'll get to her food unless I cage her :-|
What I'm doing now to slow down her gobbling is spoon feeding her from her dish.

Her numbers should rise, but she is a cat. If you have to you can feed her up until +10. After that, if you're scared, post and people will help you decide.

Rosy had her food after +8.5 , supposed to be the last meal before the PM shot. Now I'm giving her an additional meal at +10 so that she will not be too low for the shot. She is not on free feeding.

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+7 76/+8.5 68 PMPS 128

PMPS 128 gave steamed chicken & 1.25u

PMPS figure might be a bit boosted up with a small meal at +10

:?: Is there a figure where it is not safe to shoot?

Re: 3/21 Rosy AMPS 162/+7 76/+8.5 68 PMPS 128

Rosy has had a really nice day with a visit to the green! I am impressed with all you're managing (20 cats, or does Rosy make 21?) Have a nice night!

Re: 3/21 Rosy PMPS 128/ +2 274

Rosy PM +2 274

Recap for today
AMPS 162/ +1.5 187/ +6 106/ +7 76/ +8.5 68/
PMPS 128/+2 274

:?: This PM +2 figure is the highest figure recorded today, is Rosy in the bouncing stage already? Anyhow, I am glad to see her with some blue & green .

Re: 3/21 Rosy PMPS 128/ +2 274

hi helen!

looks like the beginning of another bounce.

i think you're going to want to consider what your goals are for rosy. are you wanting to work her off of insulin? or do you want to just keep her regulated and in safe numbers?

thinking about that, and deciding on your goal will help us point you in the right direction.

Re: 3/21 Rosy PMPS 128/ +2 274/ +5 86 I see green again!!

Just when we (husband & I) thought Rosy's going to bounce, he was saying I can haave some sleep tonight, Rosy gave me a green! These cats sure loves to dance according to their own pace!

PM +5 86 gave canned food.

Hi Julie, That's the exact same question Ive been asking myself these wks.The relax is so tempting to my poor tired soul. On the other side Rosy showed promising signs that she can entre the green. OTJ is the ultimate I'd love for Rosy but my health issue might not permit me to go on with all tese sleepless nights. I've always wanted to give the best to my cats provided I can still go on with it. Tend not to think too much in advance but to keep going for the moment. Will let you know ...

Tks

Re: 3/21 Rosy PMPS 128/ +2 274/ +5 86 I see green again!!

i understand. you have to do what works for you.

that 274 sticks out - i don't know if that was a bounce-ette (teeny bounce) or a bad strip. what an odd number in between a 128 and an 86.

have you looked at the spreadsheeets for any of the cats that have gone off of insulin recently? look at the 2 that are counting down right now to OTJ - mikey would be a good one for you to look at. elie's is probably too recent to be helpful.

also, i can't remember if we've talked about having rosy's teeth cleaned. when you look at mikey's ss, look on feb 1st, i think, when he had a dental done. watch the dose column from then until now. if there is any inflammation around rosy's teeth, any gum disease, any teeth that are bad, that could keep her from going off of insulin. we encourage everyone to have their kitty's teeth looked at, and sometimes if they haven't ever been cleaned it's a good idea to do it no matter what their mouth looks like.

Re: 3/21 Rosy PMPS 128/ +2 274/ +5 86 I see green again!!

Rosy got most of her teeth extracted when she was young due to gingivitis. I think she got less than 5 teeth in her mouth, that'swhy the poor girl can google down her food so fast! I believe her dental should be okay but I do notice her gums are a bit red.

Yes I was surprised by that 274 also but it could be extra food given at +10, but even with food the spike shouldn't be his much. Bad strip? I'm using the Bayer Breeze2 with the testing strip sealed in foil disc enclosed in the meter, maybe not...

Back to the way forward, am I on the track working towards a dose reduction & eventually otj? What do you think Julie? Any advice?

Helen

Re: 3/21 Rosy PMPS 128/ +2 274/ +5 86 I see green again!!

as soon as you say you see a little bit of red gums - i'm thinking she needs a dental. did you look at mikey's ss? the mikey that's got "OTJ trial" in the subject line. please take a peek - i think it will encourage you.

i don't have a crystal ball to know if rosy can go off of insulin. but she's newly diagnosed. although she bounces, they resolve fairly quickly. if i were you, i would get her remaining 5 cute teeth cleaned and see if there's anything going on in her mouth. especially because she had a history of gingivitis, this could very well make a big difference.

in mikey's case, his teeth were what was causing his higher numbers. when she got his teeth cleaned and fixed, he's now 6 weeks later off of insulin doing a trial to see if he can now just be diet controlled. to me, that's pretty compelling evidence.

PM+9 214 I'd suspect those 200+ numbers were caused by a steamed fish Ive added to Rosy's meal since PM. Will remove to see how.

:?: Will the general anestesia used during a dental cause the bg to surge in cats?
My vet is not experienced with DM & Ive avoid seeing him with Rosy's DM. The other vet, supposed to be experienced is angry with me for doing that much home testing  See, I am blamed on both side; for not doing as much & doing too much home testing!! :?
Ive checked Rosy's gum again, looks ok.
