The dreaded fur shot last night! Numbers weren't as high as I would've expected, but hopefully he can come down safely soon.

Going to be trying some petroleum jelly and egg yolk powder (once I make some) for the hairballs - thank you everyone for the advice yesterday!

Also, the vet called me today to tell me almost all of Binx's numbers look good, except the thyroid numbers (T4 I believe) are a bit suspicious... but no alarm bells are sounding just yet for hyperthyroidism. Numbers are still within normal range but have increased significantly since his last test and are edging closer to the higher side of normal range. They're sending another blood sample for an additional test (T3 I believe), which eliminates any impact the diabetes might've had on the original test. I blacked out a bit when they called so I could be mixing up test names, but I've emailed them asking for the full lab results and a repeat explanation so I can research. The additional test results will be in next week.

*Edit: initial test is a total T4, results 42 nmol/L (or 3.26 ug/dL) and the additional test is a free T4.

Hope everyone's having a great day! Safe surfing :)

Ah, bad luck with the fur shot. Come down Binx!

Hope you can get clarity on that thyroid test once you have more info. But great news that all the other results are normal. How old is Binx?

Have a very gentle slide down, Binx. Sorry about the FS, Briana.
We all (most of us) do it on occasion.
So glad to hear that his lab work looked good. I hope the T4 results are still in the normal range and you don’t have to deal with that.
Keep us posted and have a calm night :bighug::cat::bighug:

Thanks, Helen :bighug: otherwise positive results, indeed! Binx is turning 14 this year! (I just don't know when because the rescue didn't have much history on him)

I know about the egg yolk, but I'm curious how the petroleum jelly is used?
Slide back down soon, Binx!

Thanks, Mary! :cat: I learned yesterday that it's used as a lubricant to help hairballs pass! A small amount (1/4 teaspoon from what I saw) on a front paw and they'll lick it up.

Thanks, Staci. I hope so too :bighug::bighug: Definitely didn't love the FS, as long as they are few and far between! Helpful to know it happens to the best of us

The dreaded fur shot, for sure. Not sure which is worse our guilt or the temp results.

Did they say if there's any way to stop the numbers from going up more or what might cause that? I know Petey had elevated numbers, still within normal range, upon diagnosis. I assumed it was related to the diabetes some how..... all hormone driven. :bighug::bighug:

Ahh, sorry about the fur shot Briana. Try not to beat yourself up about it. Interesting news about the T4, I guess let’s see what the additional test shows. Sending positive vines for normal levels :bighug:

Thanks, Tim :cat: We'll take all the positive vibes!!

It'll be a long weekend waiting for results, but eager for any clarity they can provide.

Ugh, so true! Both are equally hard :arghh:

They didn't say yet how to prevent the numbers from increasing, but they said the higher normal range COULD be related to the diabetes - just weird that when he was first diagnosed they were much lower... 24 nmol/L (1.86 ug/dL) vs. 42 nmol/L (3.26 ug/dL). Max of "normal" range is 60 nmol/L (4.66 ug/dL). Interesting that Petey also had elevated numbers within normal range. I'll definitely share any insights I gain!

Hope you're both having a good night :bighug:

Sorry about the fur shot, Briana. I hope Binx slides down gently. Paws crossed for good T4 lab results.
Wishing you both a nice calm night. Safe surfing, Binx! :bighug::cat::bighug:

Sorry to hear about the fur shot.
Hopefully he slides down into caturday and shows some nice numbers. Tell him Nestle needs some buddies on the beach. So let's go and surf Binx!
