Well, Racci did it again. started out with a pink, went to a green at + 6. Now what? I don't know if she'll maintain her good numbers now or go through another bad cycle. I guess we'll see what Racci has in store for me today.
Its been an extremely hectic day today and just realized I'm out of test strips for the Bayer so have to use my other meter tonight and until they get here! Her numbers will really look weird now! I did take the last test with both meters but it really doesn't tell me anything because the last time I tried that experiment sometimes they were almost exactly the same and sometimes they were up to 13% off which is what they were today again. I just picked the Bayer since that's what I used this morning but don't know what I'll do later when I only have one. Havent thought that far ahead yet. Maybe take a certain % off? Just kidding. I'll use it as it reads and just note that its a different meter.
FWIW, any meter can have as much as 20% variance. Some meters do tend to run lower (or higher, depending on which way you look at it) than others. For example, there's been an issue recently with the Freestyle Lite meter running much lower than other meters.
I'd just put a note on your SS that you're using a different meter.
Thanks all. I know what you mean about differences. Its going to be a real pain to figure out what's going on. The thing is if you look at my ss, you'll see where I was testing these two to see the difference and it was almost impossible to come to a conclusion. I think the Bayer is lower generally but had the Relion Ultima go lower other times so who knows. I already noted it in my notes..
I had the Freelance Lite and loved it. I was so upset when they changed the strips because I never had a problem with my meter until they changed the strips. It read almost the same as the Bayer before that.
I don't know why she's been diving like that the past couple of days. I searched the house and found some dry food in the cabinet so moved it out in case DH is the culprit feeling sorry for her since mean mommy isn't giving her any. ;-) It strikes me as suspicious that the only time she does that is the morning when I'm sleeping and he gives her breakfast and not on the days I get up early. I'm wondering if the amps is artificially inflated by him giving her snacks and that's why it looks like a nosedive. Know what I mean? He also might be giving her ice cream. I have to have another talk with him. She knows what a softie he is.
i had the freestyle lite and loved it too. man that was upsetting to get a different meter and see the numbers, though. the first test we did was 256 on the freestyle and 400 on the relion confirm. :shock: i've read several times that it was the strips that changed - do you have any idea when that happened? i've wondered if punkin's been too high for too long, or if the strips just changed recently. the box color changed from blue to yellow - was that when the strips changed? do you know?
Yes, Julie, it was the strips and also the meter. I had the old meter and mine was fine but I saw a picture of the new one online and it does not look like mine does. So it was both the meter and strips that changed! Did you have an old one? Older than when the color changed?

what i'm wondering is if punkin's BG numbers were off the entire time, or only after the new color box of strips were out. i only started with them in the last maybe 4 months of using the meter.
Thats right. I had the old one, the second one without the middle button and it worked correctly with the old strips in the blue box. The new strips fit but were not accurate and the old strips can't be had anymore. I had tested m y old one against other meters and no problem.

i didn't think there were problems with the freedom model - so perhaps it was just the strips in the yellow box. i didn't realize the blue box strips fit both the freestyle lite and the freestyle freedom. the blue boxes were the ones i used too.
the consumer reports that i'd seen had rated the freestyle lite fairly well. i hope it was just the more recent strips.
So do I because in my estimation it was the best meter. It took the least amount of blood and was the quickest amd the easiest to use. I hope they took the complaints seriously and did something about it. I think they are the same meter but yours is the newer model. Did you see mine still for sale?
I just took Racci's PMPS on the Relion and it was 187 and I'm pretty sure I got a fur shot! I don't know what to do other than test in a few hours and see if theres a difference but she doesn't usually go down for at least 3 hours. I could smell the insulin on her. she moved right as I was shooting it & not expecting it I didn't have a good grip & was left with just fur in my hand and the insulin gone. With her that low now I don't know if I should take a chancce and give anothe 1u or just leave it. How frustrating. I bet that is what happened the other day too. Lately she has been very sensitive and painful. I really need to have her xrayed for arthritis but afraid of the anesthesia. I know she's in pain.
I wound up giving that extra 1U at +4 since I was so sure it was a fur shot. When she tested higher at +4 it was confirmation that it missed but since I didn't know how much, I gave 1U. You'll probably say I was wrong to do so but it is now AMPS & +7 from the +1u and she is 232 so I think it will be alright. I guess at +6 today and tonight I'll know for sure. I'll have to really watch her. What a night. I hardly slept.
