hello all! Julius is starting to run around like he did when his #'s were higher! I am glad to see that he seems to be feeling better at this level. I just fed him a little bit ago and am off today and tomorrow. I have to be away from home next week and I want to not jeopardize his possibly path to OTJ. Do you think it would be wise for my hubby to plan on small breakfast, come home at lunch (about 4-5hrs after breakfast) and give a small meal and then when he gets home give him small dinner? I get home earlier than him (4:15 vs 7:00) and so I was thinking that he could do breakfast at lets say 7:45-8am snack around 1-2pm and then dinner around 7:30pm. Do you think that would be ok? He works about 25mins from home and I have to go away for this work commitment, and of course he would be testing AM and PM as well, he knows how....
And on another note I wanted to thank everyone on here for all the advice help and support. I posted on my facebook about Julius and his progress and a lady who worked at my former vet has a diabetic cat, Muffin. She replied that she wished that Muffin could get off insulin but after 1yr she has resigned herself to giving Muffin insulin. Muffin is usually in the 600's or higher and her lowest was 300!! (seems crazy to me) So I asked her if she had her about the FDMB and what she was feeding. She replied that she has been on all sorts of insulins Vetsilyn, Glargine, Humulin and she is now on Prozinc and on a 'diabetic diet' well I know what that means the vet has the cat on Science Diet Diabetic dry and wet, bet on it! that same vet put Cairo on science diet for allergies when the raw diet is better for him... so anyway I could tell she was defensive in her response. "She had lazer (thats how she spelled it) therapy for her neuropathy that didn't help but acupuncture that did and can now run up and down stairs, I am not messing with a good thing
) <--- low of 300 and high of 600+ is a good thing??
I have always been one to jump on the internet and learn all that I can to benefit my cats and that is how I found this board. My mother in law last nite said "oh well how did they decide to take him off insulin?" and I said they (meaning the vet) did't decide we did! We have been testing him and he was in a normal range so we have been skipping doses. She couldn't believe it! How could we have possibly been able to do that?? Well with the help of you all and my husbands and my love and devotion we have gotten this far! I am hopeful that this will continue! But I am also prepared if we have to go back on insulin we will..... in the mean time I am thankful that Julius' pancreas woke up and I want to do everything to help it along! I want you all to know how much I appreciate your guidance and that I wish everyone going through this was on this board because I think more kitties would be healthier if they did. Its not just what the vet has to say, you have to (like we all do) take a proactive role in our cats lives and well beings. We bring them home and it is our job to take care of them to the best of our ability, this whole process has given me more of an empowerment to affect my boys health and well being!
