Morning LL,

2/26 thread

WCR Sara is being her happy purry self. She's all snuggled in, in her recliner. cat_pet_icon

WBR This bean has another problem with Denny to contend with. Denny goes balistic when someone comes over that he doesn't know. People don't come over here that much. I am going away in a couple of weeks and I am trying to get him used to the petsitter. She's coming over again tonight. She has to be able to get into the house when I'm not here. I'm not used to having a watch dog.

Off to exercise and than tbp.

Have a good day.

I think you need the lady from that show "It's Me Or The Dog" to come over.
Good luck with the petsitter, tonight.
Nice AMPS for Sara cat_pet_icon

No help at all here for Denny. If only you could read his mind. Does the petsitter have suggestions?

Nice start to the morning for Sara.

Good morning Jan.
Nice start for Sara....very low blue.

How about if your petsitter walked in with a steak in her hand.

Oh my, I am a professional pet sitter. Is he acting like a guard dog protecting you and the house or is he reacting out of fear aggression? There is a significant difference. How significant? Enough for me that one type will have me turn down the dog and the other I will work with the dog.

In fact I am working with a fearful dog right now. I have to visit daily for a dog walk. One dog is super in your face friendly...the other one ...I am his worst nightmare. A stranger with a key coming into his house. He barks a big display, charges up to the threshold, but will back up and away. Displays calming signals of yawning, lip licking, trembling and he does growl. I offer him a treat to create a good encounter and then get the other dog for a walk.

Today we're switching things up and going with a peanut butter filled Kong that he only gets from me. High value treat from a high stress situation for him. My trainer is telling me this could take 6 weeks to resolve.

No offense to your sitter, but if it is the other kind of aggression of protecting the house, he may need to be kenneled until you can work with a professional trainer schooled in aggression. The dog needs to learn he is not in charge of the house, you are. And your sitter would need to demonstrate the same pack leader position. This kind of work needs the assistance of a professional trainer and can't always be broken either.

The petsitter came over for the 2nd time today. Things went well. I met her outside this time [she walked over] of course he was on leash. He barked up a storm at her while we continued to talk. Than I offered him a treat [he loves treats, and he stopped barking] and than I had Amy give him one. I had her have him sit first. Also I gave her the lead and we walked around the [muddy :-| ] driveway. Back and forth, back and forth. Than we went into the house. He never resumed his barking.
She is coming back on friday. I think that is the key here that he gets to know her.

Hi Devon, Thanks I think the petsitter and Denny are going to work out fine.

Blue, Thanks so much for your insight, I'm going to pm you tomorrow.

Mirium,

Hi Kerrie, Maybe I should do a pet survivor video with this crew. :-D

Dyana, I love "it's me or the dog" I actually do put some of her techniques to work. ;-)
