Yay! Got blue for PMPS.... also broke out new insulin this AM, been two months, and felt I was pushing it on the old stuff. I hope these numbers continue, blue is more his color than pink.

WBR: Errrrr!! I am in a pissing contest ('cuse me!) with my vet's office and my pharmacy. I have run out of patience with insulin vials - i just throw out so much ($$$ down the drain) as it just gets old, really want to switch to cartridges. so ---- called the vet's office, and whoa - they hadn't a clue what I was talking about (what???). so -- called the pharmacy, who said sure, they'd inform the vet so i can get a new script for cartridges. bottom line - vet/pharmacy say they come only in whole unit measurements, and since Mannie is on unit +1/4 variances, they would not give me a script. angry(2)_cat angry(2)_cat angry(2)_cat angry(2)_cat so - fellow LL'ers - where and how do you get cartridges/pens/etc. I hate to be so ignorant, but.... am getting no where with the folks at the pharmacy and whomever they dealt with at my vet's office. this is just so ridiculous.

Yesterday's Condo

WCR: excellent!! Preening is on the top of the list, and making sure the civvies know who is boss. Go Mannie! The boy has always ruled the roost. He is happy this evening - chicken to be had at pmps +3

RECAP:
amps 326
amps +1 319
pmps 184
pmps +2 197

Re: 3/2 Mannie AMPS 326, PMPS 184 ~ cartidge ?

What a pain in the neck. I had no trouble at all getting Magnolia's script switched from the vial to the cartridge. What comes in the vial is the same as what comes in the cartridge, no? I'm not sure what you mean by 1/4 variances, but I hope you get it figured out soon. Maybe you can talk to your vet and explain it fully?

Re: 3/2 Mannie AMPS 326, PMPS 184 ~ cartidge ?

Hi Sara - yeah think i will talk to them directly, wait until my regular vet is back in the office. By 1/4 i meant 2.75, 2.50, 2.25, i.e., quarter units, and i probably did not phrase that well... guess i am just irritated with the whole thing. new vet up there - she keep going on and on about how pens are whole units, no quarters and she thought I'd OD my cat and wanted no part of that and and and and.... OMG, and give me a break. ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile

Re: 3/2 Mannie AMPS 326, PMPS 184 ~ cartidge ?

Ok, I know what the problem is. They think you are going to use the pen to measure the injections and the pen can't "click" 1/4 unit increments.. I had the same conversation with the pharmacist, but I pulled out my phone and showed her the photo here and explained that I would use the pen the same way I used the vial, inserting the syringe and drawing out the insulin. Explain that part and they should give you the script.

I'd be irritated too. Maybe you can teach her something. In the vets defense, most people are kinda clueless, so they aren't used to finding someone who might know more than they do.

Re: 3/2 Mannie AMPS 326, PMPS 184 ~ cartidge ?

sara's right... the lantus pens will only disperse insulin in increments of whole units. the pharmacist/vet doesn't realize we draw insulin from the pens/cartidges with our syringes.

hope mannie has a nice cycle tonight!

Re: 3/2 Mannie AMPS 326, PMPS 184 ~ cartidge ?

THANK YOU! Ok, makes sense now... Back up to the vet.

    on teaching her something. it is true though. and yes, they are not used to finding someone who knows what they are talking about. ain't that the truth. they are great poeple, but i have found that when it comes to diabetes, and lantus, i have been the teacher. scary in a way, as i definitely am no expert.

Thanks Sara, I will go back up there again and try a different approach - with pictures.

Re: 3/2 Mannie AMPS 326, PMPS 184 ~ cartidge ?

Michelle:

Most vets don't know about the cartridges. I've had 2 vet techs that I use as pet sitters and they work out of different feline vet practices. Both were clueless about the cartridges. And both have gone back to their vet practices to inform the vets. They immediately caught on to the issue of less waste and cost savings. The pharmacist at Walgreens did call when I ordered my free Lantus to find out if I needed the needle or if I was going to use a syringe.

Great start for Mannie tonight!!

Hi Jill! - missed your comment. i will go over it with them on my next trip up there, for now i have another vial, and off we go with that.

i hope Mannie does too - got a little off track for the past couple of days. blues are nice to see tonight.

Re: 3/2 Mannie AMPS 326, PMPS 184 ~ cartidge ?

Hi Sienne - missed you too! sorry!   looks like i can be a teacher this weekend and go and educate my vet's office. should be fun! great folks, but clueless on some of this stuff. I just reached a max this time when I threw out 3/4 of a vial of insulin - simply because I had used it for two months, and it had to go. omg, what a waste.....

hoping for more blues this evening. yay! time for +4....

Re: 3/2 Mannie AMPS 326, PMPS 184, +4 86
