Also I’ll post my question from yesterday again. Have a great day….

Can pain cause higher numbers? My poor Fiona had 3 nails that were partially ingrown. We are in the process of cutting them down slowly. Vet said this can take awhile because the quick is long. This has neverhappened before. Is this common in diabetic cats?

Good morning. I went to bed early last night because I have food poisoning from dinner. It was a nice restaurant too. I only got a +2 after Fiona’s pm shot.

Tomorrow my daughter has a very early local competition, so I won’t be able to get tests in after Fiona’s AM shot. I’ll be leaving food out for her and the auto feeders.
I hope you feel better fast, Julia. That’s no fun!!
I hope Fiona’s nail situation eases up quickly, too. So many complications to watch for.
Have a safe day :cat::bighug:

I don't know if it is common in diabetic cats, but Bandit has the same problem. And her nails are much thicker than my civvie's and much more brittle.

Ivy’s nails are now thicker also, since diabetes :(
I just happened to go cut them which I will admit, I slack at. I saw them and was shocked. Poor thing. So we have to check them every couple days and file them down until they are back to normal length.

Yes some cats experience higher BGs when in discomfort, pain and stress.

I don't know. Maybe @Bandit's Mom @tiffmaxee @Wendy&Neko @Tiger(GA) and Ruth may know?

I also had this happen with my Tiger. Her front paws were always trimmed by me but I neglected the back paws and one of the nails was actually growing into her skin. The vet surgically cut it away and there is no doubt in my mind it was painful, causing stress and a higher BG. I don't know it was a diabetic cat problem but I think it is more a problem in older animals? I am sorry this is happening to your kitty. Glad you are feeling better today, food poisoning is horrible!

I’m wondering because her numbers were actually a little lower / back to normal today. We even hit 75. I feel so bad because I definitely neglected her nails. But they never really grew fast, so I didn’t think about it until yesterday when I went to cut them. I checked them today and they are looking better. Not touching her pads anymore either. I just have to keep checking on them every couple days.
