Yesterday's Recap:

AMPS 263 +3=311 +5= 301 +9.5=360
PMPS 369 +4.5=339

I did get some sleep last night so am better able to function today. Two nights with two hours plus stress makes all this much more difficult to deal. I was awakened first with good news that the fluids were given over night and seem to have perked my mom up. There isn't a fever and the WBC is back to normal so they withheld the antibiotics. I don't know what the chest x-rays showed. Her internist was saying she could go home but I am sure her cardiologist wants more info first. At least headed for now in the right direction.

Max at 5 a.m. wanted food which he ate an then drank a ton of water. i was able to check and no ketones. He then threw up a hairball. I knew his BG would be high and it was. This is a long bounce if that is what it is. At least he seems more like himself. He cuddled a little last night and was very alert this morning.

Have a great day everyone.

Elise

Stress and no sleep is a terrible combination. Sending :YMHUG:

Come on down Max, get off that bounce flip_cat ....nice and slow, please.

Paws crossed you get good news today and also you get some rest.

Hi guys .. boy, sounds like you are dealing with a lot right now .. ((Hugs)) Max, be a good kitty and slowly work your way down, ok? Have a great day guys!

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364

Hi Elise,
I am glad you were able to get some sleep. You have a lot on your plate now. Sending vines for more good news about your mom :YMHUG: Hoping Max breaks this bounce quickly!

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364+3=289+5.75=201

yes, it's a bounce. the current one is from the night before last when he had green numbers. it can last as long as 3 days - so i just count forward 3 days and think that's usually the longest they go. that would be tomorrow night.

glad your mom's gotten a perkier! great news! i hope she gets home soon.

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364+3=289+5.75=201

Thanks, Julie. Max decided to come down more from the test at +5.75. His PMPS is 127. My vet called while I was at the hospital and I didn't have my questions or data available. He suggested I give Max 2 units in the morning and 1.5 at night to avoid the drops at night. I know uneven dosing is frowned upon here. Should I still give a fat 1.75 tonight with this PMPS or maybe just give a regular 1.75?? I have no idea how low he got today. Thanks.

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364+3=289+5.75=201PMPS 127Dosing ????

I would give the fat 1.75. Max might have been sliding all day with PMPS his lowest number. You are right that Lantus likes consistent dosing. My vet also said I could do different doses at night, but that's thinking from Caninsulin or other in and out insulins.

Great news about your mom - I hope she continues to improve. :YMHUG:

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364+3=289+5.75=201PMPS 127Dosing ????

Thanks, Wendy. I did give the fat 1.75 and hope he doesn't go a lot lower and bounce yet again. He didn't eat the food I left out this afternoon but did eat some of the food I gave him before his shot but not all. I'm not sure why his appetite is down. If he doesn't eat enough over the next few hours I will try baby food. At least he is out from under the bed since I dragged him out for his test and shot.

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364+3=289+5.75=201PMPS 127Dosing ????

I'd get an early test or two this cycle. You shot a dropping number and it's good to know just where Max wants to take his numbers.

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364+3=289+5.75=201PMPS127+1.75=181

It seems many vets do not understand that dosing Lantus is different than dosing PZI. I'm not sure if they don't realize Lantus is a depot insulin or what. So it's good that you recognize how important it is to be consistent.

Great to see Max clearing his bounce. In addition to what Sienne said, sometimes bounce clearing cycles can be very active cycles. I hope Max will clear his bounce slowly so you can get some sleep.

Good news about your mom. I hope things continue to improve.

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364+3=289+5.75=201PMPS127+1.75=181+3.5=168

You know the funny thing is my vet was using Lantus years ago. My sister gave it to her cat. He has more than once suggested uneven dosing to me and I questioned him as to whether he has many clients doing it successfully and he said he does.

After heading up my Max has decided to head down. So far he is doing it slowly. I hope that continues. I guess I will be testing in a couple of hours.

Thanks for the advice and well wishes for my mom, Marje.

Re: 3/19Max AMPS 364+3=289+5.75=201PMPS127+1.75=181+3.5=168

When Gracie was first dx, my vet at the time said she had a good track record for getting cats into remission. She did not recommend hometesting or changing the dose. One day I was in there and another client brought in her FD kitty and the BG was 29. I realized that the likely reason her patients were going into remission is because of hypoglycemic episodes that shock the pancreas into working...if it doesn't kill the kitty first.

I hope it's a slow slide :-D

It looks like a slow slide or else he will be surfing.
