3/19 Shooter AMPS 105, +6 61, PMPS 66, +4 71

Good morning! (yawn)

Shooter had me up quite a bit in the night checking his bg's. Did I do ok or should I let him get lower before feeding him mc food? Is there a number that we want to wait for (like 50) before feeding mc or hc?

Hi Heather, sorry you were up so late. Ugh. I don’t know how the Levemir people do it with the late Nadirs. :blackeye:
Very nice cycle, though for Shooter! :D
And great question, let’s see what answers you get about MC food.
Have a safe cycle and a great day :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heather,
Great cycle last night and fabulous start AMPS!
There are some discussions on the use of carbs to moderate the carbs every now and then in the forum.
ECID, and it also a judgement call for each circumstance, I think.
Because Mikan tends to get volatile, if I see a sharp drop, I'd employ MC in attempt to mellow the curve, even if she isn't that low at that point.
I've had so many scary experience that once she gets very low (lime low), it is sometimes hard to get her up.
So I want to keep her from getting too low. Too low also leads to too high later
It also depends on my ability to monitor her. If I can't be around, I'd be more liberal for using higher carbs.

I will tag @Angela & Cleo for her, as she always has great insight on the topic! Thanks Angela!

Hi Heather - Amazing Surf! Typically you feed HC when the BG falls below 50. Once you begin to figure out how carb sensitive your cat is, it gets easier. Also, we take into account where you are in the cycle (onset, nadir, post-nadir) to figure what % carb to feed. You'll get there. There may be some other medical reasons to not let kitty get too low.

You should totally give yourself a treat and celebrate this cycle :D:D:D

Well crap... it looks like I'm in for another long night. Shooter ALWAYS rebounds after a low but then again he used to always nadir around +8 so something is changing. Tonight he's already dropping at +3 which is very unusual.

I do too but I don't know that I like it this early in the evening. I don't know if I should go to sleep or what... I don't think I can until he stops dropping.

I have to rely on my automatic feeders. I give a good educated guess the trajectory or where BG might go and will load Kona up with extra carbs through the night for assurance she'll stay afloat if I can't stay up.

I'll load up both automatic feeders for up to 8 mini-meals... sometimes I over do it with carbs and she ends up higher than I'd like when I wake up or get home from work, but I think it's better than passing out and missing alarms.

I guess I don't know enough about how he'll react yet since he has NEVER been in greens this much EVER (definitely not complaining). Plus auto feeders are tough when there are 2 cats in the house. I would never know who ate what. lol

I put Kona in a spare bedroom with the automatic feeders. I think she actually enjoys it. I put a litterbox in there and she just sleeps or looks out the window.

Her sister would totally eat the food, she’d push Kona out the way.

I think they make automatic feeders with chips or a collar so it only opens for them.
