Hi L&LL,

I missed yesterday on the board. In the morning we were busy getting used to our new e mail accounts and in the afternoon we went snowshoeing at the VIC at Paul Smiths. It was a gorgeous day, but quite warm and the snow was much heavier and stickier than before. It is maple-sugar weekend in our whole area, and Paul Smiths College has a big sugaring operation and produces wonderful maple syrup. They have a horse team (2 Clydesdales) that pulls the sled to the sugar maple grove. (Paul Smiths is a small college that specializes in forestry and environmental sciences, and food, restaurant and hotel management.)

Rusty is having pretty good days, but I wish his appetite was better. He had great appetite in NYC! I'm struggling with the Monoject syringes and it is impossible to determine whether the dose I think I am giving is correct. Rusty's dose is so small (skinny 1/4 U), and on the Monojects looks like almost nothing (they have a fatter barrel than the Terumos); working by drops I "converted" 0.46mm on the calipers for the Terumos to 0.22mm on the Monojects. But there is the issue of the "cone" with the Monojects. And it is very difficult to tell if any of the dose gets into the cone and therefore makes the dose larger than anticipated. If anyone is interested in this problem, several years ago I explained it in a Google Doc.
The blizzard has delayed our mail deliveries, but Rusty is looking forward to receiving early this coming week the box of Terumos that his Auntie Rhiannon @rhiannon and shadow (GA) has sent him.

Potluck monthly supper tonight at the mountain club. I'm responsible for a main dish and am making one of my old favorites: Chicken Paprikasch (from my favorite cookbook, probably no longer in print: "The Impoverished Student's Book of Cookery, Drinkery and Housekeepery". Wow, I just found it on Amazon. It costs $88!!! No impoverished student could afford it now!

Wishing all a good day and sending vines to all in need.

Appy vines for Rusty. Trix's appy is usually pretty OK, but sometimes it has me on edge, too....older kitty thing I guess. Did Rusty have his B12 shot right before you left for NYC? I've heard that can really help with appies.

Have fun at dinner tonight!

Morning Ella :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Rusty, you are looking good! Love that green. :D:D:D:cool: so..... what's up with the fuds? You gotta eat, ya know. Keep a good watch while in the lagoon, and watch over the rookies.
LOL, on the eating well in NYC, not so well at home. Cats! You will probably never figure that one out..... I wish you luck. As I wish you luck with the monojets. It has to be difficult when the dose is so small. We used monojets for years, but Mannie's dose never was that small. It is easier to adjust due to the cone issue when the dosing is bigger. I can't imagine how hard it is. Too bad that no one as of yet as put out a syringe that can measure quarter dosing. I can fondly remember my vet being astounded when I told her we did quarter doses. She just couldn't believe we could even see what that was, what with half doses being difficult. One has to love vets and their FD stuff.... ;) Anyways. good luck!

WOW on the snow, but I bet it is gorgeous there. We were down to 32 last night, no snow, just a frosty morning. Today is a beautiful sunny day here at home. guess spring really does want to show up here. Crocus are in bloom, forsythias are starting, Rhodies are beginning to bud, soon the daffodil fields in the Skagit Valley will be in full bloom. How wonderful on the maple syrup weekend there. That has to be so fun to watch. Love the tradition. Sounds like a great afternoon on the snow shoes. I still hope to get a pair and hit the snowshoe trails here at home, there are such beautiful ones available. It didn't happen this winter, so maybe nest. paws crossed!

Life sounds busy there. ALl is well here too. DH is doing well, last oncology scan came back clean, YAY! He had a followup appt with his pulmonary DR, which also was good news. Prior to the cancer and the cancer surgery lung function as at 80%. After all the cancer stuff it tested at 77% this past week. His physician was elated, as he felt it should ahve been much worse, as I guess most post lung lobe-ectomy patients are. :) DH has also started a pulmonary PT session(s) 3 times a week, in an effort to get him over the fatigue and jump start things for him. He has, so far, been faithfully going. We hope this will bring that 77% up even higher. He will always be a COPD patient, but things are looking good.

All is well with Nicholas and William too. School continues to be good, as does the swimming and the pool. Last session Nicholas leveled up to a new skill level, a class that does primarily laps. He has been able to handle that well, and is looking really good as a swimmer. not to bad for a 6 year old. William continues to follow in his brothers footsteps, loves the pool as much as he does. We are all grateful that the weather is improving, and have spent as much time out in the local parks as we can. They have been saturated (it is one of the wettest march's that we have had in years) and very muddy. They come back wearing as much as they stomped in.:joyful::woot: It is such fun. We all are anxiously awaiting summer days, and our return to the rivers and the mountains. William asked last week when he could do back to the Skykomish near Gold Bar. Soon I hope! All in all, very happy BUSY boys!

Kitties are doing well too. They LOVE the catio, and spend alot of time out in it. We are trying to come up with some ideas to add a few things to the catio enclosure, such as a vertical climbing pole to Lola, and maybe a "Cat house" that they can camp out in while out there. I am so glad we went with the run portion of this project, as all three cats LOVE to run in it. Life in a catio is GOOD! :cat::cat::cat:

Have a great rest of the weekend, and week. I hope your email changes go well. That is always such an ordeal.

Eat yer fuds Rusty! Maybe time to put up a hot dog stand outside your house?

As much as I cursed the BD monopoly, at least I didn't have to switch syringes. I admire your patience for finding the new dose.

Chicken Paprikasch - yumm! Do you do dumplings with that?
and is looking really good as a swimmer. not to bad for a 65 year old
I love typos! :joyful::joyful: Ah yes, spring has just sprung here. Crocuses got a bit beat up by the snow fall a couple weeks ago, but the daffodils and tulips are well on their way. It's a good solarium day today.

Chicken Paprikasch - yumm! Do you do dumplings with that?
No. I cook it in the morning, then, later, put rice in the pot and cook until the rice is absorbed. (I cut up the raw chicken, rub it liberally with paprika (Hungarian sweet), salt, and pepper. Saute in onions & garlic, then cover the chicken with water, bring to the boil, and then simmer for an hour. Later, about an hour before ready to serve, put in 1 cup of rice for every 2 cups of water (you have to measure when you put in the water!), bring to the boil, and then simmer for 1/2 hour. It is really good!
The recipe is from "The Impoverished Students' Book of Cookery, Drinkery, and Housekeepery", by Jay F. Rosenberg.

Hi Ella... sorry to sort of hi-jack your condo....
Vanessa sends her Ethiopian Best :coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee:
Hope your day today is a good one.

@Wendy&Neko HAHA on that typo. I saw it after I had posted, did get in and fix it. Who knew Nicholas was 65? :joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful:

@carfurby Many thanks on all. We are grateful things are going well.

Hi Michelle, thanks for the update on all your activities, the boys, your DH, and the kitties. You sure sound busy. The catio must be so much fun for Lola, Bug and Vanessa. I'm so glad that all 3 of them enjoy it.
Such good news about your DH. I hope that his therapies continue to go well.
Swimming sounds super. Congrats to Nicholas for getting into the next level. And to William for doing so well, too. I hope it won't be long before you all can get back to Skykomish.
Check out the pics of Avalanche Pass in my today's condo (21 March). You would have loved this hike. Pretty soon you'll be back on the "big" trails (when they are more accessible).
Enjoy Spring!
