Do you think me changing her feeding to every four hours instead of three could be causing her body to dump more glucose to make up for her "thinking" she's starving that extra hour? Throughout the course of the day she's getting 1/2 can less of wet food under this schedule but I've supplemented it by adding 1/2 strip of chicken cooked in olive oil at shot feedings and 1/4 strip the other feedings. Plus she gets tuna snacks each time we test.

I think I read somewhere that if your body thinks it's starving that it will dump extra glucose to compensate. Thoughts?

I'm not sure about what you read - I don't think feeding every 3-4 hours is going to increase her blood sugar. I fed punkin at preshot and +3 - then he went til the next preshot with just a couple of bites of chicken breast. Most people feed most of the food in the first half of the cycle so that you're not feeding a lot in the second half when the insulin's strength is waning. Eating too much in the later part of the cycle can put the brakes on your insulin action.

My doctor has said that for people, when you fast for a blood test, you should fast for 8-10 hrs rather than "longer is better." After about 10 hrs your blood sugar will begin to rise. Not sure how/if that would apply to cats, however, and i certainly don't think your switch from 3 to 4 hours would cause higher numbers. I just think Zoey isn't to her right dose yet.

So work that juice, miss Zoey!

What you said about feeding on the front end makes sense so before I went to bed last night I decided to test it and see how she did with getting the remainder of her food all at once. As far as letting me sleep, she did great. As far as her numbers, they're awful. She has been getting 1 can for each cycle but I've cut that back some because she is definitely overweight and she has not lost. So, I've cut it down by 1/4 c per cycle. I do have chicken strips to supplement with if needed but she's not begging. She did not eat every morsel of food when I gave it to her but 95% of it. I left the bits and pieces on the plate and during the night she has eaten them. So the food quantity has stayed the same or even less, but the timing has not. For weeks she's been doing better than now on the insulin with less insulin but now she's getting more and the numbers go up. Is there no connection to the food and it's her body wanting that 4 units that I dosed her with a few weeks ago? At .25 increases we seem forever to getting back to that spot. :/
