Good morning!

I have no idea why, but Osha is now showing me some beautiful blue!!!:cool: I guess it is best not to question it and just to enjoy the numbers.

She has a vet appointment later this afternoon.

Have a good Saturday everyone.

Vet Update:

The good news is that Osha appears to be healthy. She mentioned to me again how Osha does not look like an unregulated diabetic cat. Osha's teeth are in very good shape. What I thought was gingivitis was actually acne that was on the lip directly next to the gums. So, I just need to wipe her mouth and hopefully that will clear up the acne. Her blood pressure, ears, eyes, lung sounds and heart sounds were all good. I had the senior panel blood work and a urinalysis done. I should have those results on Monday.

The frustrating news: I knew from my last visit that my vet didn't want me testing all the time. So when she asked me, I lied and said I just to pre shot tests and a curve on the weekend. She did not like that I have been changing Osha's dose without her consultation. I asked for a script for Levemir and she was hesitant and would not give me one today. She said she has never had a client use it. She said she would ask another vet and get back to me on Monday. She wants me to send her Osha's spread sheet info. Obviously, I will be making a copy and deleting a lot of information. I said I would go to another vet after her (she says she doesn't feel comfortable with the way I am treating the diabetes), but that I would really appreciate the script for levemir now so I don't need to pay another $100 office visit immediately. I said for her next 6 month check up I would go elsewhere.

I am running out of vets to go to. I hate all of this.

That sucks. So sorry. :bighug:

I don't have any suggestions except to try and educate her but I know that can be tricky. I get more support and encouragement from the vet techs but at least my vet is on board albeit not really enthusiast. In her defense, she is really, really busy.

Great vet report as far as Osha's health and teeth/gums! I know it made me feel so much better to know there wasn't anything else going on except for the FD.

Hoping you get the RX for Levemir. Fingers crossed.

How many days?

God, I can imagine how frustrating that is - how ironic that she looks so great - because you test often and take care of her!! There's some lev pens for sale in the supply closet forum - why don't you get some there, and then when you appear at your new vet appointment in 6 months, you will present a kitty who has been on Lev for 6 months?

That is a very good idea Carol! :):bighug:

I know...it's super ironic...hmmm, she doesn't look diabetic...I wonder why?!o_O

Woot! :p

The vet techs are more excited to see Gizmo's SS than Dr. Pratt, though she does ask me to email the link to her so she can review. Like I said, she is super busy. The whole office is. They have 6 vets, I have no idea how many techs and helpers and there is always at least 3 front office people. Dr. Pratt has called me at 8pm to review BW too and it was good news :).

I am so excited! We will have 23 days together! :) Besides getting to spend some amazing quality time together, another bonus will be being feline diabetic cat free for a part of our vacation. It will be my first time away from Osha since the diagnosis.

You are so lucky with your vet. I am just at a loss here. She didn't know about IAA when I asked about it before, she had never heard of people using pens instead of the vial. She told me today, she sends my email with the Canadian pharmacy and how to use the pens to all of her diabetic patients now.

I guess I can appreciate that she was honest and says she doesn't feel comfortable with the way I treat Osha's diabetes and would rather I found another vet, but I am feeling discouraged as she is the 3rd vet now who told me to stop home testing.

I'm glad Osha got a good report. Sorry things are so frustrating with the vet. I hope you can find a vet that will work with you and be willing to learn. :bighug::bighug:

I am going to go on a cruise by myself if/when he goes into remission. I have done it once before and it was the best, most relaxing vacation I have ever had. Sitting on the balcony listening to music or books and watching the water and dolphins and flying fish for five whole days. It was blissful.

Maybe post on the main health forum and see if anyone lives in the area and can recommend a vet. IDK, just a suggestion.

So in a month, I am supposed to leave for 13 days with some American feline vets - for a hands on African safari with actual wildlife vets where we will be helping band lions, dehorn rhino, etc. It's the opportunity of a lifetime but with my mother, I don't know if I will be able to go (of course, it costs thousands of non refundable dollars) My friend (the feline vet who invited me) had a client who lives by me who had 2 cats die within a few days of each other a few months ago - one had IBD and the other diabetes. She will keep Murphy in her home, but I'm worried like crazy. She works full time, and it seems she (and my vet friend) had been using Lantus like Pronzinc on a sliding scale . I'm thinking of contacting the Levemir manufacturer to see if I can prefill all the syringes. But it is either that or board him for 2 weeks, which I really don't want to do. Such a dilemma with our sugar babies -

That sounds like a wonderful plan Lizzie! I think you should do it even if Gizmo doesn't achieve remission. :bighug:

Wow Carol, your trip sounds AMAZING! I really hope you can still go. It really is a dilemma with our sugar kitties. My mom will be taking care of Osha and I will put her on a vacation dose. I am fortunate that my mom has seen what I do with Osha and will follow the instructions. Before her fall she would even test and shoot sometimes. I guess in the back of my mind I knew I would need her to know at some point how to do this, even though at the time I thought I would never leave Osha for a trip.

I just don't understand vets and their thinking on this disease. It is super frustrating and makes me want to scream. I told her I don't need help in this area, just her overall health and I understand that I am not like her other clients. I just need the script for Levemir. She keeps saying it herself...."Osha doesn't look like a diabetic cat" That is because of all of you and what you have taught me on how to treat this disease. I keep bringing up topics she doesn't even know about (IAA, Pens, Levemir) grrr!

grr vets can be frustrating... though i did laugh at you deleting info... like whenever has less info been a better thing!!!!... i pray you find a good vet who works with you soon towards Osha having a healthy life... Osha good check up sweetie... and i see you are giving mama bean those greens tonight... be safe and let her get a little sleep please... hope you have a great sunday tomorrow Amanda :bighug::bighug:

That's what I had to do Amanda. For some reason Doodles vet thought keeping him on 12u of Lantus (although it was clearly stinging him) plus the use of R was better. Same reaction of the testing too. When I went to the new vet I literally told her I was buying Levemir "off market" and would appreciate a script. She agreed especially because he was already on it. She too never prescribed it before and wouldn't do so but since Doodles was on it already she was fine with it.

With testing, I did show he's real SS and pointed out some lows/ dives and said so if I test less, how would he be safe. End of story :)

Hope all her BW comes back positive too!
