yesterday

Good morning LL! I need . My cat is avoiding me, must hold me responsible for his trip to the vetty yesterday. He stopped eating after I gave his shot and took off. Oh well you can't please everyone all the time. I am going back to bed and maybe he will like me later.

I don't know what to do. Java seems lethargic and in a funk. He had pain meds today around 9:30. He was growling at me when I picked him up. I gave him some hc food when he hit 70 and he threw it up. I just don't know if I should give him his pm shot. any thoughts?

I started out and gave a spoonful, then tested in 15 and that was the 69. after that I gave two spoonfuls waited another twenty and got the 84. then I gave him a couple more spoonfuls but it looks like he puked most of it up.

don't know what to do about the pain meds. maybe cut back the dose. he is supposed to get it every 8-12 hours and he got it at 9:30 am

What pain meds is Java prescribed? Is this bupe from for the extractions? If it is, it's an opiate -- it will make him lethargic and possibly a little loopy.

Could he be having an IBD flare?

Could he be having an IBD flare?

This is the bupe I got from the ER when he had his bladder obstruction. Should I cut the dose a bit? or maybe not even give it again until tomorrow? I am more concerned about his BG. he doesn't seem to be eating really great either. It could be IBD but he usually pukes more than once.

Did the vet give you anything for the pain from the extractions? And did Java get antibiotics? (I'm just trying to figure out why he growled at you.) Is he litter box activity normal?

they gave him pain meds after the procedure and I was to give the next dose this morning. He was going to give buprex? and I told him I had the buprenorphrine from the ER. he said that was fine. he didn't get antibiotics because the roots were not extracted, just the crown was removed. litter box seems normal. he has been hiding from me all day and avoiding me.

no he does seem kind of off, you are right. he normally handles anesthesia well but last night he was a demon. and usually the next day he is better although I still think maybe the pain meds are playing a part. My gut is telling me not to shoot tonight. I still have 20 minutes before I test for PMPS but I don't know, something isn't right.
maybe i am overreacting?

Just out of curiosity, did the vet get dental x-rays? Generally, crown amputations are not recommended without x-rays to sort out what's going on. If Java is still hiding tomorrow, I'd call the vet. Bupe can cause a paradoxical reaction of agitation although most cats are stoned!

A crown amputation procedure has been described for "extraction" of teeth exhibiting FORL. In this procedure, the crown of the tooth is removed while intentionally leaving the roots behind. Cats with associated periodontal disease or gingivitis/ stomatitis should never be considered candidates for crown amputation. Dental radiography is essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

he didn't mention xrays. Java is prone to neck lesions and I think one of the teeth was already broken, the other one had a big hole at the crown. I just carried him in here for his PMPS and he is acting kind of limp. I am not going to shoot and I kind of want to not give any more painmeds until he starts acting right.

it was a predrawn syringe I think .6 or .06ml. He just got up and jumped off the bed, and is walking around so maybe he is ok. it just felt like he was a little limp when I put him down of the bed. vet is closed but I will take him to 24 hour if I have to.

other than the hc food he puked he hasn't eaten well at all. I just gave him some FF with his budesenide and he won't eat it. he is hiding again. he just got up and went into the kitchen. I feel like he wants to eat but then my civvie starts walking towards him and I yell and he quits. he has definitely peed but I am not sure whose poop it was. he had a big poo yesterday though

I'm not sure what to suggest other than to keep an eye on him. If your gut tells you to take him to the ER, I'd go. Otherwise, if there's no change in the AM, call the vet and get him in. There could be an infection brewing from the dental although I'd expect higher numbers if that were the case.
