Sigh ~ can someone tell this boy that pink is a girly color?

My alergies have been terible over the pas couple of days. Since about late 2007/early 2008 I developed some kind of pollen allergy that starts around Christmas and goes to mid-Feb. It's now mid-March and my eyes itch and my throat is terrribly sore from whatever is draining into it. :-x

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

Being in FL, it could be anything, since stuff blooms year round down there. Sorry to hear it.

I've been having my 'seasonal' allergies bothering me the last couple days, things are starting to bloom and throw out pollen up here. Fortunately, I only have this problem a couple times a year, spring and fall for a couple weeks and Clariton takes care of it for me. My allergies were worse when I lived in FL.

Hope you feel better soon. :YMHUG:

Yep, I pulled out the Claritin this weekend myself - its just that time of year up here in Maryland. And no matter the time of year, when I visit Florida I take the stuff because otherwise I sneeze my way through vacation - there's always something blooming that bothers me.

And apparently pink is the color of the morning - unless you are Lucian who always needs to be a bit different.

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

Yep, Clariton is out here too...Awww Spring! What is ironic is when I lived in North Carolina I had zero allergies even though everything blooms there, but I come back to Nebraska and I'm back to sneezing and wheezing in Spring and fall. Although for me it isn't flowers that get me in is grain and grasses that get me. So right now while the grasses are coming up and then in the fall when they harvest the wheat and corn I live on Clariton and Benedryl.

Yep pink seems to be the color of the morning, which works for Jez and Autumn they are girls...but Cedric...you iz a boy...blue or even yellow is a better color for you.

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

I had year round allergies all my life until I went to massage school. After 6 months of getting massages twice a week as practice really cleared up most of my allergies unless I am right in the middle of pollinating season. Apparently the constant massage helped with my circulation and cleared out something in my system. They say twice per month would do the same thing.

A small tip for sanity- know anybody you can trade with?

Wow - that sounds a lot more pleasant than my Neti-Pot for sure.........

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

My absolute worst allergy flair, was in WV.
We lived there about 3 yrs and the 1st year, had a bumper crop of Ragweed, thought I was gonna die! :o The only time I had to see a Dr for my allergies. It was that bad.
Of course, it was early 1980's and there were few meds for it, except for benedryl, which was prescription and has always knocked me out.
Clariton works great for me and it's cheap. :thumbup I will use benedryl for an allergic rash or bee sting though, anything that swells, like hives. Or if I can't sleep.

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

Currently I use the generic version of clariton for those times my allergies are up and running. Wal-atin (walgreens) version doesn't make me sleepy, nor does krogers version. WM's version does make me sleepy. Go figure.

So... in June when we head for Vermont I need to make sure I have a brand new bottle with me, eh?

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

I use generic too. :-D

If you go any place different, I'd take some with me. You don't know what will be blooming, etc.

Beautiful time of year for Vermont, went there as a kid during summer vacation once, I loved it. I love mountains anyway, any time of year. Have you been there before?

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

Nope- never been and am excited to go. Mom and I are doing a tiny house fair in Warren, VT.
We will stop and see an acro mom going up- Gayle, and see Lu and Grayson coming down, and possibly Libby and Doug as they are close by Lu.

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

Libby and Doug are near me, I'm outside of Raleigh too, will you be going near here?

Don't know where Warren is, trying to remember where we went. I remember being near Stratford Mountain, as my step dad pointed out that he was on the ski rescue team there in his earlier years. He was from that area.

It is truly a beautiful place. One that I would live, if not for the severe winters. I feel the same way about Williamsport PA, love the place, can't handle the winters there.

Step dad's mother was on the post card of the Vermont Country Store back in the early 1970's and she was picture perfect! In her 70's with grey curly hair, full figured, rosy cheeked lady, with little wire framed glasses. She looked like Mrs Clause. :-D She made handmade quilts and bonnets for the store and also worked there. She was so sweet and gave the best hugs ever for a kid! :-D She would just about smother you in her bosom. She was the perfect Grandma. :-D I only got to meet her once, but she had such an impact on me. Not like anyone on my mom's side of the family, who just weren't loving people.

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

We will be staying at Wilson, NC most likely. Then go on to Asheville to see the Biltmore for a day. Our plans will stabilize the closer to June it gets  .

My goal is to stop at fabric stores, quilting shops, knitting nooks, and to meet as many FD friends as I can!

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

My granddaughter is in Wilson, I'll have to make it a point to visit while you're there. It's about 50 miles from me. Gives me an excuse to go to Cracker Barrel.
Are you coming in I-40 to I-95?

The trick to Claritin is to take it at night....that way if it makes you sleepy (it does me) - it doesn't matter. Target sells the generic in big bottles (I think I bought the hundred count last time) and I've found their per pill price to be the cheapest around. But then again, we just got a Walgreens and I haven't been in it yet so who knows.....

If I remember right that puts you in the Mad River Valley which is gorgeous country. (In my younger days I used to ski). And if you like cheese - I think real Vermont Cheddar is as good as it gets.....

Oh, and then there's Ben and Jerrys which always tastes better in its natural habitat :).

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

And if you get through Charlotte NC...Ya gotta go eat at Cheddars...Yum-O everything there is made fresh to order, plus the portions are big and the cost is not. They have a spinach dip and warm tortilla chips that is to die for. God I miss real restraunts, here if you want to go out to eat you have a choice of MacDonalds, Burger King, Arby's, Pizza Hut or Taco Bell...we just finally got an Apple Bee's about a month ago and haven't made it there yet...But everything is "Family Friendly" I real would love to be able to go out to dinner at a place that doesn't cater to screaming kids.

Or at the very least somewhere that I actually need to shave my legs, wear make-up and put on a pair of heels for...lol. But to do that we have to drive at the very least 40 miles and for the really good places it is more like 150 miles. Living here reminds me of the old commercial..."Want to go to the mall, Chuck E Cheese or Pet Smart? Well too F-ing bad we live 200 miles away from any of it"

And your right the only folks that come here are the ones that are lost on their way to somewhere else...even if we are only 30 minutes from I-80

Re: 3/18: Cedric AMPS 350

mmmmmmmmmmmmm Vermont Cheddar! My mouth is so watering!

I buy a White Vermont Cheddar in' Seriously Sharp', called Vermont Farms or something like that. It's available in most stores and it is sooo wonderful. It is from Vermont, although it is a prepackaged cheese, it's better than any other prepacked that I've found. One of the few things I'll spend a tiny bit more for. It's worth it in my book. :-D And I am TIGHT!

I have to limit myself, I could eat the whole 8 oz block in 2 days, if I let myself, it is that great! :o I'd love to have mac and cheese made with it, but my old body couldn't handle the fat grams. I can only imagine how good it would be. :-D I swear, if I was told I had a week to live, I'd make mac and cheese with Vermont Cheddar and go happy!

Geez Mel, living 150 miles from someplace you need to shave for?? Now that's boonies!

I have worried about taking something like Clartin as it might dry up my sinus cavity and give me a migraine...

Back to Cedric, he's still in the pinks - well, except for just now when i tested him. I fed him dinner at 6pm after his shot instead of at 7pm. He was going down - was in the 200s yesterday and Saturday but now back up to 300s? What gives?

You might want to consider a netipot or some other nasal irrigation then (I have a squirt bottle thing). Although I was concerned about choking and making a mess - its easier than it looks and does a good job of removing the pollen without drying out your sinus passages.....

Yep, I have a neti pot but I can only seem to do well on one side. I hate using it too but i have a cousin who swears by it. Right now My throat has been bothering me all day. Something in my nose and or ears has been draining in there, but it has been constant. i HAVE BEEN starting to wonder if something is wrong with my tonsils, b/c it hurts at the back of my mouth/top of my throat. Of course, this am I was so scared I was becoming allergic to cats (although can that happen if you have lived with them for 21 years?)

The squirt bottle is a lot easier than a neti I think.

I don't have tonsils anymore, but when I have that sort of sore throat its generally from my sinuses draining into my throat and irritating it. And I used to be prone to sinus infections which would do the same thing and make me hoarse as well as give me a sore throat from the draining.

I doubt you are becoming allergic to cats...its much more likely to be something pollinating or blooming right now.

And as for Cedric and the pinks - I don't have a clue unless his system is really sensitive to any schedule changes and your adjustment bounced him a bit.

back on the board!

Cedric- how did you spend your day?

Debbie- I-95 is the way we are coming down, according to mapquest. And we do have a CB gift certificate! I'll get some more. Krogers is giving 4x the fuel points per $ purchased on gift cards so I am stacking up for the trip and saving money on gas at the same time
