Butthead had his 3rd radiation treatment in Boston yesterday. The civvies were again not thrilled to be deprived of fuds past midnight, but at least there were no thrown empty bowls or chewed-open bags of kibble in the morning. Donovan, always the suspicious one, eyed me carefully when I got up earlier than usual, and followed me to my bedroom and stared at me as I got ready. No traffic issues on the way to Boston, so we got there early and I let Butthead roam around the car in the parking lot and rubberneck for ~20 min. Lots of coming and going at Angell. They took Butthead as soon as I checked in and entered the waiting area, where there was a large 3-legged dog. She was just the happiest girl, and everyone was giving her lots of loving (and her giving it back). Not really sure why I chose to mention that; perhaps to remind us all to focus on *now*, like we needed any more reminders of that recently... :-|

When Butthead was returned to me, he was still slightly loopy, but as soon as he heard the *pop* of the baby food jar, he perked up and shoved his face into it (didn't even get the spoon out yet). Visions of Mannie sprinting across the yard when Michelle banged on the cat food can. He licked and gulped and purred while slurping it up, and then the oncologist came in to give an update. Trying to examine Butthead's lumps while he was highly focused on eating was amusing. She thinks the tumor has not grown, which is a good thing, I guess, but it is still large and concerns me. The fact that is hasn't grown as quickly as it had been is encouraging, but I just don't know how long it can stay that way. I have noticed more grunts and snorts when he's sleeping or breathing, depending on his position. Sometimes it's quiet. I can't help but wonder what that evil thing is doing to his throat. But he's eating, albeit it seems like smaller more frequent meals, which is not a bad thing - as long as he's eating, right? Don't know :?

He has one more radiation scheduled for next Thursday (4th treatment). We'll see if the vet wants to try a 5th. I realize this is only a temporary fix, but I still hope and pray that is a really really long temporary.

Gratefulness for all of you here, and prayers to those suffering with ill kitties or loss. My heart hurts for you.
Yup, crying at work again... :YMSIGH:

aw, MJ...your babies are so precious!

Oh, and he tried multiple times to jump onto the dashboard again, with a resulting *scrape*thunk*. Perhaps he just wants a better view? Maybe I need to get one of those pet bucket things that attach to the seat for those pocket-sized dogs.

I gotta videotape him doing this somehow. Unfortunately I'm driving.

Butthead sounds happy, and that's the most important thing. I wish you guys the best. We never know what's going to happen, but everyday is a blessing and for today, there's no need to worry about tomorrow.

Jason

Butthead is a special kitty. Reading about him provides so much strength to my world over here. Even though he is dealing with so much he still makes me smile. Enjoy every minute you have with him and I'm wishing for a lot longer. I'd love a video of that too bad you are driving when he does this

Butthead, you are a wonderful kitty to help your mamabean by being so very much yourself. MJ, I do hope that this treatment will shrink the tumor. Keep thinking positively, and you'd better go out and get some more of that delicious baby food!
Have a good evening with your fur family,

Ella & Rusty

Hi MJ - I think of you guys all the time, always wondering how things are with Butthead. I look for the updates. I just love the baby food story - he does love his fuds, perhaps as much as Mannie. You'll have to get him a perch. :-D

I hope the radiation is helping him. I liked what Jason wrote about how we never know what will happen, we have today and there is no need to worry about tomorrow. Enjoy the time you have - I too hope it is a long one.

Have a great one tonight.

I forgot about the baby food part - I read that earlier and it had me smiling from ear to ear. You need to get a video of that. What a sweetie.

oh, if you get one...you HAVE to post pics of him in it!

I think it was you that posted this in someone's condo, and i loved it.

"The past is history...
tomorrow is a mystery...
But today is a gift.
That's why they call it 'the present'."

I love your attitude, MJ...

Aww, I love Butthead stories. Glad to hear the tumor hasn't increased and he still loves to eat his baby food.
And if you do get one of those cool bucket seats for him, you must post a photograph. He is such a cutie. :-D

Praying for lots more time for you to be together. (((Butthead and MJ)))

(((MJ))): I've been wondering how Butthead was doing since your last update. I'm glad the tumor does not seem to be growing and that he has such a wonderful quality of life still. I know you are cherishing every single second. It makes it difficult when we are losing other LL kitties but Butthead is a fighter and such a spirited guy....and he's a FOLDIE!!!! They are tough! Thanks for keeping us posted. We are keeping you all in our prayers.

(((MJ))) Butthead sounds like a happy kitty.. More prayers for you and Butthead and I hope you have lots more quality time with him…

I'm happy to hear that Butthead is doing well and happy and smiling. They do smile, don't they! :) It's hard though for us, knowing what we know. But, hey...we don't really know it all. Keep on loving that sweet boy.

Donny and Butthead would *love* to be there.
And I found a Butthead carseat at Christmas Tree Shops today
Can't wait to let him try it...

No carseat pics/video yet, but I did take da Butthead outside today and shot a little bit of video. And I do mean a little . I thought I had several minutes' worth, including him eating grass and shoving his nose into the camera to sniff it. But the batteries were dying, and when I checked the footage, this is all there was (cannot get this blasted thing to embed either):

That was a little video  Just enough for a big smile here though. He looks like he loves it out there. Good luck with the car seat

Hope he likes the bucket seat you found! LOVE the Christmas Tree shops MJ....that's one thing I miss about living on the Cape. You are soooool lucky!!!! And how lucky to have found a bucket seat there!! GREAT job!
I am praying for Butthead every day...and for you too....I know that this must be so hard on you...but your determination and hope will get you through these rough times. And keep that baby food handy
(((Butthead & MJ)))

Terrific video. And such fun to watch several times! Butthead, you rock! Nice that you found him a car seat, MJ. Butthead, keep smiling for your mamabean. We all love you!

Ella & Rusty

  on the one second video! but lucky butthead to get to go out - and lucky you that he'll walk on a leash!

i'd love to see pics of him in the car seat bucket too!

i have to ask . . . what's the story on his name? i've just been wondering.

Hee, hee! That was about the quickest video I've ever seen! But it was nice to see Butthead out walking and 'hear' that he was sniffing the camera and eating the grass.

I always assumed that the name came about because he loves to give head butts? :-D Do I get a gold star?

It's nice hearing that Butthead's tumer hasn't grown any and I too am hoping for a long temporary fix for him. Loved reading your post and seeing that you are being so positive about this. Not going to let a tumer get you and Butthead down!!! Loved the short clip of Butthead taking his stroll outside. He does seem very happy. Sending continued white lites and positive vines your way!

Butthead isn't his proper name though, is it? Tell us the story MJ....please?
thinking of you guys today and sending hugs to you both (((Butthead & MJ)))

 Guess I missed a few posts here.

Alas, I cannot tell you exactly when he became Butthead, but I know it was soon after I adopted him. His breeder and I were co-owners until he was neutered, at which point he was signed over to me. I had hopes of showing him as a kitten and then in Championship class, but he had other ideas. He started acting up and the judges recommended neutering him sooner rather than later, so I did. But since the breeder did all of the original registration paperwork, it was she who chose his legal name: Linanci's Gen'Earation neXt. Couldn't come up with a good nickname from that. His dad's nickname was Bubba, and the breeder had been calling him "BJ" for Bubba Jr, so we stayed with "B" names and chose Bailey. That is the name on his vet records. At some point early on he did something that made me call him Butthead, and it stuck -- it stuck HARD. Despite what most people automatically assume, it has nothing to do with Beavis and Butthead, and he is not at all called that in a mean way. People that know him and know me, know that. People that hear it for the first time are sometimes offended ("Ohhh, don't call him that!"). Donovan is at times referred to as BOOBUS when he's having his short-bus blonde moments, but again, it's said in a loving way. And a loooong time ago, one of my parents made a passing comment about one of our cats looking like a Shmoo, and from that point on, he was Shmoo. Butthead just happened. Sorry the story wasn't more exciting

I do remember a neighborhood cat named Moosehead when I was a child. I assume, based on the crazy family who owned him, that he was named after beer, but I'm not sure.

love the name story I think so many names have a story I mean Do Lou is actually Red Ferne Judah Ben Hur and most of the time I call him Sa wooo in slurry silly way  how I got to his name is well shall we say a story for another time ;-) ((((((Hugs)))))) to you both
