Alska is proudly wearing a scratch across his nose. Guess he wants me to think he is a scrapper but none of my civvies bother him anymore so I think he did it to himself. He is really rough with the face washing.

Odd you should mention face washing... i have noticed my two doing that a lot more than they used to. Its so cute!

Re: 3/18 Alska AMPS = 177

Do they do it roughly? I mean Alska really pushes his paw against his face with a lot of force. Then I notice little scabs above his eyes and then around his chin. I wonder if the idea that Lantus makes their skin itch is true. His back ripples but not like the hyperesthesia ripple that causes my civvie to go running around like his skin is on fire. I will have to see if it was ever discussed at FDMB.

That's why I keep all front claws clipped especially the dew claw. Have one civie scratch her own eye with a claw washing her face.

My two are nice calm dignified face washers. But they still get their spa days (nails clipped) due to their love of kneading our bellies

That's interesting Mel. I read here that it's not related to the Lantus, but dry skin can be a condition related to diabetes. He does look tough though with his self-applied scruffs and scratches. I think it is to impress Autumn  He's competing with that attractive tough-faced Lucian after all. I don't know if he will let me cut his claws. I should put on protective gear and touch his paws tonight to see.

Also I should report that Alska is so much calmer at shot time now that I found those Orijen treats. I put one right under his nose on the windowsill then grab the syringe, pull the skin up lightly by the fur and he barely notices the injection. I think that when he does react it is because it may have been a spot I shot recently. I rotate around his right scruff and shoulder but sometimes forget where I was. This is eliminating the occurrence rate of fur shots, thank goodness. Now where is some wood... I need to find some wood quickly - knock, knock, knock.

I discussed this plenty about Michelangelo. After switching to Levemir, the "hyperesthesia" (or whatever it was) and the rippling skin are completely gone.

Even though both Alska and Bing have rippling backs I don't consider Alska to have hyperethesia because he has one symptom. Hyperesthesia is a nuerological miss-firing that involves nerves and thus behaviors are also symptomatic of hyperesthesia. Some felines have to go on Prozac. Bing definitely has the behavioral symptoms of the disease but Alska does not. Therefore I attribute Alska's symptom to be more about itchy skin. One of the ways that Alska and I initially bonded was when I would lie on the floor next to him and gently brush him. He loved that. He would inch his body closer and closer to me. It was sweet.

I am glad you are seeing good results with Levemir.
