It's a melancholy day here...today would have been my sweet handsome GA Mario's 19th birthday. Happy Birthday to my angel!

Not loving that AMPS, but I'm glad she didn't food spike it like crazy. Trix is loving, loving, loving her Paw Lickin', so I guess once we find the right dose, it will be worth it. Back in the Wellness FortiFlora days, she was always the first to walk away from her bowl...she so didn't like it. But, with this new menu, she is always the last one eating and doesn't even glance at the kibbles. When she leaves, she's usually 95% done...I scoop up what's left and pile it in the middle of the bowl, serve it to her in front of the heating vent, and we have our CPC.

Last night's fluids session was not super-duper smooth. She was being fidgety...I guess I didn't hit a great spot with the needle and her skin was being extra twitchy as the juice was going in. Finally, she could take it no more and she rolled...and the needle came out ohmygod_smile . Ugh. The worst part, was we were only half way through, so I had to stick her again. I did find a better spot the second time, though...she didn't flinch and just purred.

I was thinking today how she's so oddly sensitive to foods that are supposed to be LC. She was the same way with Wellness. When she was first diagnosed, I tried all sorts of LC fuds to see what she would like (note: she was actually eating Wellness when she was diagnosed!). If I fed her other foods, her numbers went down and were stable; when I fed her Wellness, they were all over the map. I finally settled on Fancy Feast and Purina One, and she was always roughly a 1.25U kitty, nice and flat low blue/high green.

But then last year, her kidney numbers were just a hair out of range, so it was time to search for a LC/LoPhos fuds. She hated EVO (even more than Wellness, if that's possible!) and Merrick's BG (which doesn't exist anymore anyway). She loved Paw Lickin', but it sent her BGs through the roof - we ended up at 5.00U before I finally took it off the menu. I finally re-settled on Wellness and while her numbers eventually settled down, it did require quite a bit more juice to keep her in those low blues/high greens...she was needing around 3.50U to stay there, although she eventually worked herself down to about 2.75. Still so much more than she required with the Fancy Feast options.

I don't know...but this numbers trend is pretty much a carbon copy of what we went through last year when we switched around her fuds. She must have a very finicky pancreas.

I also have this fear that Wellness is causing whatever is going on with her kidney values. My vet did see a larger trend of cats with urinary issues who were eating Wellness (all kinds...wet and dry), and when she tried to contact the company about any changes they have made in the food they refused to talk to her. And, she was already eating it when she developed FD. I have never ever been a fan of that company. While Trix doesn't outwardly display any urinary issues at all, I do wonder...and I know the vet is considering kidney stones as one of the possibilities here.

So, I really want the Paw Lickin to work for so many reasons. I just wish I knew NOW what the right dose was to get her back to better numbers.

Anyway, she is her usual radiant self this morning.

And, everything is white again. Fortunately, it is just a dusting, but at this point, even that is way too much snow.

I'm off today...hanging with the kitties and doing chores (if you check in Kim...yep....still spackling sheetrock in the basement! Having to work is really slowing that project down!)

Sending prayers out to Dyana's sister, and to Jennifer and Cain.

Have a great day, LL!

Amy

Come on down Trixie! I hope she settles into the dose. Yay for CPC! She is a very sensitive kitty when it comes to fuds. I'm so glad she likes the Paw Lickens. Just don't buy a case of it. Poor girl on the fluids.

Have a great day home with the fur kids!

Re: 3/17 Trixie AMPS 304 +3.5 258

Hi Amy,
I know rhat Mannie and Stu are serving up a delicious birthday breakfast for Mario this morning at their Two Chefs' Kitchen.

I think that the most important thing for Trixie right now is to eat the fuds that she likes and that are low phos. and not to worry if they spike her bgs. If it takes more insulin to get her back to blue and green, no matter. It' s great that she likes PLC so much.

Enjoy your day working on the sheetrock!

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O)

ugh on the that amp's, but I am sure you will find the right dose to get her back on track. I'm with Ella, if she likes the PLC, eats well, feels well, is low phos etc, then worth the extra juice. I so hear you n that whole fuds discussion. We too were using Wellness, at last Mannie liked it, for the most part. I wish you luck with it all.

Happy Birthday to out sweet angel Mario. a big YUPP on the special birthday breffis from Stu and Mannie. :-D

Have a great day Amy. I hope all goes ell, and that you have seen the last of that white stuff.

Re: 3/17 Trixie AMPS 304 +3.5 258

HI Amy

I'm so glad that Miss Trixie is still loving the PawLickens, even if it take a little more joos to get those numbers back down.
Checks loved it at first, then refused it. It did spike his bg too.
You take such good care of your sweet girl.

I bet Mario thoroughly enjoyed that birthday breffis that the Chefs Stu and Mannie made for him. :-D

Re: 3/17 Trixie AMPS 304 +3.5 258

Hi Amy,
Yes, it will be so nice when you find that perfect dose! Nice numbers, along with low phos diet, and CPC = happy kitty and bean :-D I would love to find a LC/low phos food that Cleo liked with no toppings!!
In the meantime, it is fantastic that Trixie is enjoying her fuds and being as radiant as possible :-D

Re: 3/17 Trixie AMPS 304 +3.5 258

Trixie, sweetie, today's color is green! C'mon down and join the St. Patrick's Day Party - I know you'll have a good time! :-D

I'm in agreement with the rest of the LL aunties about feeding her a low phos food she likes, even if you have to up the insulin. We all know how important it is to get the food into them. You just have to retrain yourself not to concentrate so hard on low dose + low numbers. Easy for me to say, huh?

I'm very grateful that all my kitties seem to like the Evo C&T 95%. Wellness was not a big hit, and after reading your condo, I'm glad. This low carb, low phos thing is so hard, when you have to figure in their finicky tastes. I'm just glad I don't have Rachel's issues with food allergies for her Chyna to throw into the mix. That might just send me over the edge. :o :o :o

Hugs to you on Mario's birthday. You never stop missing them, but they're always in your heart! :YMHUG:

Sending you snow melting vines from Sunny CA! :-D Have a great day, Amy!

Re: 3/17 Trixie AMPS 304 +3.5 258 PMPS 233

I gave my sweet little pincushion a pokey break after that +3.5, so no tests till PMPS. I don't know if I've ever been so happy to see a low(er) yellow before! I will be holding my breath at +2, though...she does like to fuds spike with her beloved PLC.

Re: 3/17 Trixie AMPS 304 +3.5 258 PMPS 233

I hope you can find a dose that works with the PLC since she loves it so much. Sending hugs as you remember your sweet Mario. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Hi, (((Amy))), thinking of you and your sweet Mario on his 19th birthday. ♥♥♥ (I'm certain Ripley is letting Mario wear her special party hat.)
And I'm so glad Trixie is still happily eating her PLC. What a nice CPC streak she has goin' on. :-D :-D :-D
I hope you are having a wonderful evening!

Re: 3/17 Trixie AMPS 304 +3.5 258 PMPS 233

Hi Amy,
Sending special hugs to you on Angel Mario's birthday.

I'm so glad Trixie is enjoying her food!
That's wonderful!

I did read somewhere a long time ago that Wellness Core may cause urinary crystals to develop in some cats.
I don't remember reading such reviews/articles about regular Wellness grain-free.
When I called Wellness, the person answered my call was pretty nice. So maybe it depends on who you get.
My neighborhood petfood store doesn't carry Evo any more because there have been too many recalls due to salmonella and e.coli.
They said too bad because their foods are good, but they were just making too many cats (dogs too?) sick, so they decided not to carry their products any more.
I didn't investigate any further to back up the store's comments, but it's hard to put a 100% trust no matter what food I choose to feed my cats anyway.

Re: 3/17 Trixie AMPS 304 +3.5 258 PMPS 233

Hi Amy. I'm sorry that today is a sad day for you, to remember your sweet Mario :YMHUG:

I'm glad that Trix is giving you a nicer PMPS than AMPS, paws crossed on the slide down for tonight :-D . Sorry about the fluids session...did you wear them, like I have before? . I had to do that the other night, a second poke to an already pissed cat ohmygod_smile . I'm glad she was so good for the pokey again. The fuds thing is enough to drive anyone bonkers!!! I wish they could tell us a dose...

I hope the "dusting" stayed just that for you, no more snow! Have a good evening

We narrowly escaped the pink floor tonight....two more cycles and the next dosecrease is on. This is worse than watching grass grow.

Fluids went much better tonight...no incidents to report.

@Rachel...I wasn't actually wearing them last night, but the bathroom got a decent dousing   ! It's amazing how quickly you can react when that pricey stuff is spraying all around the room....

(((Amy))))

Sending sweet Mario birthday wishes. I bet Barbara made his most favorite foods for him and they are having a great party with all our GAs. I'm sure they are all teasing Gus about his little foldie ears :-D and admiring how handsome Mario is.

There were occasionally times when the needle would come out when we were giving fluids. Usually because I let go of the needle for a second to answer the phone  I never repoked. One day here or there of a little less fluids isn't going to matter.

I know it's frustrating that her BG is going up when you worked so hard to get it down. But the best food is the one they will eat and because CKD cats can go on and off food and really need to eat well, it's easier just to do what you are doing....adjust the insulin dose.

Goodness...I thought you were done with the basement!
