Linda and Scooter & Jack

Member Since 2012
Hi folks:
This morning I did the monthly check of my boys and Scooter passed with flying colors at 77. Jack however came in at whopping 419. It is quite possible that he got into a bit of kibble yesterday in my absence. I am waiting 4 hours to see if his numbers go down. In the mean time I am off to Walmart for strips and levemir just in case.

Any suggestions from you all would be greatly appreciated.

Linda

Linda, please let this be only a visit! Love seeing you around, but not for this reason.:bighug:

Has Jack been to vetty lately. Might be time for bloodwork and a peak inside his mouth. I thought you got rid of kibble in the house.

Hi Wendy thanks for responding!
Yes he had his yearly check up in January along with everyone else and he had good BS levels. I did get rid of the kibble in the house but one of our cats refused to eat wet food and lost 4 pounds rather quickly so it is back in the house just for him. I have been sick with the flu and relying upon different family members to feed everyone and I think that may be the reason he got some kibble. At least I think that is the problem. Jack and Scooter will do pretty much anything to get carbs. I am so glad his numbers are coming down without insulin. I am ready in case though and have restocked my supplies. Better safe than sorry. I will check again in 3 hours.

thank you so much!
Linda

aack - shoot! i don't think a non-diabetic cat would have those kind of numbers, even if they raided the candy store. that's the point of not being diabetic, you can eat sugar and your body puts out the amount of insulin you need to take care of it.

How can you get insulin without him being seen by the vet? I think that should be your first stop rather than just starting him on insulin.

It's good to see you, but i'm sorry about Jack's BGs.

Hi Linda,
I think it's a good idea to get Jack checked out. If he has high bgs you have to be on top of it and find out why. Sorry to hear that you have the flu. Feel better and get some rest. Great to hear from you, but the circumstances could be better!

Vines on the way,

Hugs and scritches,

Hi Ladies:
Well I am getting smarter with this diabetic stuff. :) I called the vet and we have an appointment tomorrow morning. I agree I should not start him on insulin without medical guidance. I have a script at the pharmacy for levemir that is still good until the end of this month so I got 3 pens since I was there. I live 50 miles from the pharmacy and had to go for strips and lancets. I also agree with the thinking of his numbers are pretty high. If Scooter gets carbs his bgs might go to 200 but never 400. SO I will check him again before bed and then get him to the vet either way tomorrow.

It so nice to know you are all here for guidance. It feels like a warm cozy blanket.

Thankyou!!
Linda

Hi, Linda!

Please remember to have the vet take a good look at Jack's teeth. Dental issues are notorious for throwing a cat out of remission.
