Happy Sunday! Well, Chyna got a change in food overnight. I was reading on health the post about Evo and possible Salmonella so I checked my lot and the first numbers match but the last four digits aren't in the range mentioned...still just to be safe until they have more info on yay or nay, or add to the range I decided to change the food. Her poo seemed a bit soft last night and they said to watch for vomiting and diarhea but maybe I was paranoid, she's eaten 4 cans out of the case I have. That post is here in case anyone is reading this and worried: http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=91123

I broke out the mini can of Wellness Turkey that I had for "Chyna not eating" emergency food. She ate the overnight mini meals all gone and had 3/4 of the breakfast right away gone. I have one of Wellness Chicken (mini can) and one of Merrick Cowboy Cookout in the cuboard too. All are decent carbs but are higher than the Evo so I hope that doesn't raise BG too high, I don't know how carb sensitive she is. The Wellness is also higher in phosphorus than I'd like, but so far Chynas labs show normal in that range with the CKD stuff so they'll have to do in this pinch, the turkey is lower so I'll run out and buy a few more cans today. I wish somewhere in town sold Merrick before grain, I didn't want to buy an entire case online if she doesn't like it and so far that is all I can find that ship to Canada with a decent price sells whole cases. Anyways...Chyna seems to be feeling good today, so far. We have all 5 Ps:) Hope you all have a good day! Yesterdays Condo: Chyna 3/16

Re: 3/17 Chyna AMPS 88 Food change

Morning!
You can usually go to most food web sites and do a store locator.... for your area.... see if there is some store that has it...
call first of course before you waste a trip to find out they don't have any....

Happy St. Catrick's Day!

Re: 3/17 Chyna AMPS 88 Food change

Wow, Chyna is doing great!!! And she's very GREEN.   And it is the national holiday of LantusLand!

Re: 3/17 Chyna AMPS 88 Food change

Thanks:) I did check all the stores in my town, and one has Merrick but not BG. I may ask if they would consider getting some in for me when I go there today for the Wellness. I have checked and the closest town on the Merrick website is a 5 hour drive to Edmonton, but I didn't check BC...maybe I'll do that. My parents are going to Edm. in April though so maybe I can get them to go cat food shopping

Oh yeah! It's St Patricks day, and Chyna is wearing green  I hope all the kittys get to put on their green today so they don't get pinched! ;-)

Re: 3/17 Chyna AMPS 88 +3 68 Food change

Nice start for Miss Chyna! It doesn't look like the fud change is affecting her bgs. Hope you have a great day!

Re: 3/17 Chyna AMPS 88 +3 68 Food change

Always better to be safe than sorry with food recalls.
Chyna looks good wearing green. She's lucky to have a bean like you. And so is the (((FDMB)))

Re: 3/17 Chyna AMPS 88 +3 68 Food change

Thanks Sam:) That's what I figured, hold off on the Evo for now, even if I am being paranoid :o

So far, so good on the higher carbs food/BG:) The little pet food store that sells some merrick said they could see if they can get the Merrick BG for me if I wanted...but then I noticed they are very low calorie and I have enough trouble getting Chyna to eat all her food sometimes without having to feed more of it. I'll have to see. Bought some more Wellness Turkey for now :-D

Has anyone heard of b.f.f cat food? They all have tuna in the different flavors, just a little higher in phosphorus than I want but still seem ok for rainy days. How often does everyone feed their kitty tuna flavored food? I hear not to do it too often...I thought these may be a "she won't eat" food to have in the cuboard! They gave me a free can...This is what I'm doing today, more food research. I just wish that the stores stocked the ones I need. I had Dr.Lisas list ascending in phosphorus and highlighted the ones under 10% carbs in my purse with me :-D

Re: 3/17 Chyna PMPS 76 b.f.f brand/tuna?

Chyna is looking lovely in her St. Paddy's day green dress today.

Good luck on the food hunt. We have the Merrick BG in stores here in B.C. but maybe not up north? None of the stores I haunt here have branches anywhere near you. I've heard the rule of thumb to do fish no more than 2 times a week. Most fish flavoured fuds are too high in phosphorus.

Re: 3/17 Chyna PMPS 76 b.f.f brand/tuna?

Thanks, she's been wearing that green dress quite a bit and it's her color I think

I figured it was something like fish only a few times a week. Do you use the Merrick BG? I can only find calories for the mini cans...but I saw on someones spreadsheet that was helping me that has a CKD/diabetic kitty (can't remember who) for low phos/carb foods that the 5.5oz cans had more calories than I thought going by the small cans, I'm wondering what is written on the can. I guess I can always contact Merrick:) The little pet food store sounds like they can try to get me some, so if the calories end up looking ok I will ask them to ;-)

Re: 3/17 Chyna PMPS 76 b.f.f brand/tuna?

My kitties are on a raw food diet, which is quite a bit lower phosphorus. However, I do have a few emergency cans around for travel or temptations if needed. The small 3.2 oz an of BG Turkey I have says 85 calories and to feed 2 cans per day per 6 lbs of cat. The Merrick website only shows the small cans in BG.

Chyna is looking superb! I think it is time for an OTJ Trial!!

Here are the instructions:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

  • If she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then her pancreas is working!

  • After 14 days in normal numbers, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give her the support she needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

GOOD LUCK! :-D

:RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Yeah, we LOVE trials. Congrats Rachel - you've done a great job with Chyna. Good luck on the trial.

Thanks so much everyone, you're all a giant support system and wealth of information that I am grateful for every day! :YMHUG:

The good thing is, Chyna is a free feeder who eats when she wants to, we've been doing mini meals and she doesn't always want it on my schedule, but later, LOL. I'll use the auto timer and will change my "big" breffis and supper meals that were for insulin times to smaller ones too. I will have to figure out a good schedule to follow just for my sake apparently haha (but not have to worry as much when she doesn't eat it all before I go to work that insulin will cause a hypo with no food eaten!)

I know it's sputtering...come on mr.p and Chyna cat:) I'll try not to hope, and hope at the same time...I'm excited and scared! And I will keep telling myself that if we have to resume insulin, it's ok, it's to help her stay in safe numbers. :-D nailbite_smile  dancing_cat
