Tipper has a great PM cycle, I was able to manage her #s with small LC meals and she was even able to "surf" for a
few hours. No steep dives.
I really though that this AM would only show a moderate bounce. Not so

Tipper is eating the LC classic FF, my insulin pen is less than a week old, no furshots. Her teeth, gums look OK
She could use a dental, but vet said wait a bit. She has alittle discharge from one eye. We give 500mg Llysine a day.
She has feline herpes and typically in the spring we see a flare up which might explain the watery eye.

I'm doing a curve today for the vet and I'll include her ss when I show her the curve.
She is coming down slowly and I have a feeling I may have a repeat of last night.

So back to my question...how can I help Tipper?? Am I making any serious mistakes? Other than my addiction to testing
and hovering

i wish i could help you with your question...but i wonder if Tipper's numbers are high due to the Llysine you give daily.....wonder if perhaps you can post your question in health to see if you get more of a response there with the medication and high BGs....

good luck!

No real advice regarding the meds.

...but Tipper looks like he's just bouncing from the overnight numbers. It took Atlas almost 5 months to stop the severe bouncing...so all I can say is to have patience.

One day he suddenly just snapped and held and surfed and then surfed some more

and then it went into cycle #2, #3, #4...and then days...and then weeks.

We went all the way up to 3.5u BID and stuck there for a really long time and then his day came....

You can see it in our 2011 spreadsheet.

i tend to think beth is on the money...she's quite knowledgeable.
Binks has been on lantus 7 months, and for some reason, he gave up the bouncing awhile ago...

hang in there! You'll find her magic dose!

Unfortunately you cannot do anything differently, this is Liver Training School & I think Sienne explains it very well, so I have included what she said in a condo the other day. Some kitties "graduate" fairly fast, most do not. Take a look at Mocha's SS, she is on a OTJ Trial right now (& doing very well), but it took her over a year.. many kitties it is a matter of months, but nobody can predict. I think the night #s are looking great - the daytime #s are generally the last to come down.

On the more technical side, the body has a protective mechanism to guard against low BG levels. If numbers either are low or a drop in BG is too quick, this automatic protective response is triggered. What occurs is that the glucose sensor system in the central nervous system triggers the release of glucagon which in turn prompts the liver to release glucose and, in addition, other counterregulatory hormones (e.g., epinephrine, cortisol, growth hormone) are released all of which elevate BG levels. It can take up to 72 hours for the bounce to clear. It's helpful to keep in mind that this is a normal and protective process -- even thought it's rather annoying!

As your cat's body becomes more used to lower numbers, the liver will overreact less and less. We refer to this as Liver Training School (LTS).
