Good Morning LL! Thank you Elsa! :coffee: :coffee: WOW!!! a normal looking morning start!:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool: It's been awhile! Tess may be keeping me busy today.

WCR All 5 Ps, Clean Plate Club, Vines to all the kittehs in need of them and hugs to all their beans.

So glad to see her back in normal numbers. Just fyi, if she starts to zoom up, and you're up for monitoring, you can use the R at the beginning of a fast rise.

I'll just tell you what worked for me with punkin. Tess is quite different, obviously, but if it's at all helpful perhaps you can take what is worthwhile from our experience and apply it to Tess. I liked to use R on punkin on the start of bounces - so when i knew one was coming as I saw his BGs begin to rise, I used it then. I used it as low as 250 or so, to hold him flat. I'm not sure if you want to do that with Tess or not - this is one of those trial and error things. I thought of it this way: if you use R when the force of the BGs are on their way up (my mental image is they are starting to climb up a mountain) it's like loading a heavy backpack on the blood sugar rise. It might not bring anything down, but it can keep the BGs from soaring as high as they would've without it.

When you wait until 500+ to give R, that can sometimes result in a "jumping off the cliff" action - especially if the cat is clearing a bounce. If the cat is at the beginning of a bounce it might be fine, but later on, it can cause a really fast drop - which as we know - then can set off the next bounce. The dreaded R bounce cycle can begin - the R causes the cat to drop fast and/or low, which causes a new bounce to high numbers - and then it repeats until you stop using the R and let things settle down.

So for what it's worth, i thought I'd pass that on. I see Tess in great numbers at the moment and thought i'd mention it in case you want to try it when she starts the next inevitable bounce.

oh, John, I saw your comment the last time. You are always free to do what you want with miss Tess. I was just giving you my 2 cents worth since you'd asked for advice. I'm glad it worked fine and of course, you're so experienced you could've handled it even if she did go low. I knew about the DKA and can only imagine how worried you both must be for her. It makes it even better that she's spending all day in good numbers today!

Great day for Tess today!! I hope she's feeling well.

An example of what Julie is referring to is what I did with Gracie tonight. I gave her a drop of R as she started up because she was headed up fast. My goal was to stop the rise although the drop has brought her down some back into blue.

Thanks for the visits everyone. Marje and Julie, we have tried that a couple of times. It's brought her down a sometimes, but others she stalled for a while then she took back off again. We'll watch for a rise tonight.
