Georgia and Simon (GA)

Simon is green today! Unfortunately, my civvie, Cleo still does not seem to be having any litterbox action. I am separating my two kitties today to get a handle on who is doing what in their boxes. I'm coming home from work at lunch and will check to see what is going on (if anything). I'm probably going to have to bring Cleo to the vet late this afternoon to get an enema. I just don't know how I'm going to afford all this -- it just gets overwhelming sometimes.

Anyway, on a brighter note, Simon was eating better last night and this morning. Yesterday morning and afternoon he didn't want to eat much because I guess his stomach was a little upset from the antibiotic. I am giving him Pepcid so hopefully that will help.

Have a great day! It is a rainy day in Georgia today after being in the high 60's and sunny yesterday. Come on Spring!

Re: 3/15 Simon AMPS 96

good to hear Simon keeps improving and is feeling well. And gorgeous amps for him!

Good luck at the vet, I know those bills can be overwhelming. Hope your civvie feels better.

Re: 3/15 Simon AMPS 96

It all hits at once doesn't it Goergia. Hang in there. Good luck with the litterbox. Is your Civvie eating okay? Maverick never stopped eating even though he was blocked but a lot of cats do stop eating and can vomit when they are constipated.

WOOOOOHOOoOOOOO Look at that morning number for Simon. Bet that made you smile    So glad his appetite picked up last night *clapping*.

Good morning guys ... love the green amps simon! Im glad to hear you are eating better and your belly isn't bugging you so much today .. I hope the vet can figure out what's going on with your civvie and that it doesn't cost to much .. hope you guys have a great day!

Re: 3/15 Simon AMPS 96

He's BAAAACCKKK!! I like seeing that green start to the day!!

You might want to order some FortiFlora. You can get it from Amazon or PetFood Direct. It's a probiotic and it may help to settle Simon's stomach and restore the "good" bacteria that the ABs kill off. Just an FYI -- if you do give a probiotic along with an AB, you want to separate them by about 2 hours. (You mix FortiFlora into food.)

Loving the green numbers so far today. When I stopped by the house to check on the kittie, my civvie still has not had any lb action except for pee. I'm going to call the vet now and get her in this afternoon for a check.

Sienne, thanks for the info on fortiflora. I'll check it out.

Re: 3/15 Simon PMPS 101 and update on vet visit for Cleo

I brought Cleo to the vet this afternoon for what I thought would be an enema, but I was totally wrong. She actually has a UTI. The vet couldn't feel any stool in her stomach and also did a rectal check and she did not seem to have a problem. They did a urinalysis and boy, did she scream when they pushed on her bladder. It just seems really strange that I now have 2 cats with a UTI, although the infection that Simon had was supposedly not contagious. The vet put Cleo also on baytril so now I am having to give pills to both cats. Thank goodness both like the pill pockets. I still don't know why cleo hasn't pooped in 2 days, except for some very small hard ones. I'm going to watch her closely.

I ended up bringing Cleo to Simon's former vet because I hadn't transferred the paperwork over yet on Cleo to the cat doctor. I always liked the vet except for her advice on diabetes. Also, the vet Cleo went to is only 5 minutes from my house and I couldn't leave work in time to get her to the other one. I was worried that the vet was going to ask me why I transferred Simon to another vet. She didn't realize that Simon was going somewhere else and she asked me, "isn't it time for Simon to come in for another blood glucose curve?". I ended up telling her that Simon really is nervous around dogs and since he would have to go alot to the vet because of his diabetes, I am bringing him to a feline specific vet so he doesn't freak out from all the dog smells (ok, I lied a little bit, but I hate confrontation). She seemed ok with it but I guess she can't really say anything.

I know this is a long post, but one other thing. The vet said she could give Cleo an injection that lasts 2 weeks instead of the oral med. Thanks to y'all, I politely refused the Convenia (spellling?) and said I have no problem giving her the oral meds. She had already figured I would want the convenience of the injection so she was very surprised by my choice. Thank goodness I learned about Convenia from you guys because normally, I would probably have said great, give her the injection.

Thanks for listening and here's hoping Cleo's stomach will be ok on the baytril (I'm also giving her a Pepcid to help).

Re: 3/15 Simon PMPS 101 and update on vet visit for Cleo

Ouch. Glad you caught the UTI. Odd how they both have it huh. ohmygod_smile

I would pick up some Mirilax and some pure pumpkin. I bet she'll lap up the pumpkin like its desert. The mirilax you can sprinkle on her food. Its very gentle. You might not need to use it very long but you can if needed.

Guess they can both commiserate about their UTIs. Ouch again. Good job lying to the vet    Woof.

Re: 3/15 Simon PMPS 101 and update on vet visit for Cleo

Good job on declining the convenia!!! Sorry to hear about Cleo...holy cow! If she is constipated, you could give her some slippery elm bark syrup. My two elder civvies will get a little constipated from time to time so we are on a maintenance dose of SEB syrup and they do great! Simon is looking super again!

Im so glad you got cleo in the vet and realized she had a UTI .. now she is on the road to recovery! :thumbup

Re: 3/15 Simon PMPS 101 and update on vet visit for Cleo

I bought some Miralax yesterday and started giving them a little on their food. I wasn't sure if they would like pumpkin, but it sounds like it may be a treat for them.

Slippery elm bark syrup -- I have never heard of it. Is that something I can get at the health food store?

Re: 3/15 Simon PMPS 101 and update on vet visit for Cleo

Hi guys - it is so great to see Simon posting these fantastic numbers - he definitely is back! YAY!!!!

And kudos to you on the convenia! At least she asked - once when I had to take a kitty in for a skin problem which resulted in needing AB's they gave it to her without even asking. Errrr! I hope Cleo tolerates the meds ok. pepcid does work great for upset tummies. I am glad that both kitties like the pill pockets. Mannie does too.

Love the "lying" to the vet - very good job! I've done that before too - sometimes it's just easier than the confrontation when you know you are not changing your mind. Me and mine get into it now and then over food. She loves MD, wants Mannie on that only, uh no.... so there are times when that little white lie comes out of my mouth: sure - he eats it all the time - uh no.

have a great night guys!
