  Wow, one seriously different cat this morning! glossy coat, clear eyes, wickedly FAST dammit! this could get entertaining. Managed ear pokes with steak bribes but there was a LOT more cat there this time! He shot off right after and went outside before I could give him his dose!!! luckily it's POURING rain so he was sitting outside the back door under the deck. Gave him his shot (hope it wasn't a fur shot, it felt fine, but it's not that well lit out there!) He's had some breakfast, not a lot because he filled up on raw steak! Can't believe the difference in him. he doesn't look 'old and tired' at all. Feisty is probably the best word to describe him. I'm hoping that I'll be able to catch him to get his +2 and +6 tests!! He's having no trouble chewing/eating (it was a canine that was extracted so not that needed anyway) and seems to be in no pain whatsoever. The painkiller supposedly is still having some effect and should wear off by about noon. Hopefully he's still happy then, Vet figured he'd be fine because he's going to feel so much better without toothache!

Pleased with the pink number this morning. Was expecting higher given that he missed a shot yesterday. I figured the shed would take a while to refill before we'd start seeing nicer numbers, but he's been red or black in the mornings before this WITHOUT missing a shot, so the pink only 12 hours after is welcomed.

Hope everyone has a great day. thanx again for all the support yesterday.

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370

Rupert is back on the couch in his usual spot. I just noticed a teeny bit of red weepage from his right eye. ohmygod_smile DOH! Vet could find nothing related to that. hm. He seems unphased. looks a little tired after all the zooming about this morning! Least he's in a spot where I can get a +2 test easily (ha ha, famous last words!)

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370

It really sounds like there were some pain issues related to that bad tooth. Just so you know, as the antibiotic does it's job and with the bad tooth gone, once the infection/inflammation clears, numbers could come down quickly. You're good about testing so just a "heads up" should you see a fast drop.

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +2.5,354

+2.5 and holding on the pink floor after several light snacks. Hoping for a nice sllooooow trip to the yellow for today, but if he stays level at pink all day I"ll be happy too. Am expecting to see a difference after his shot tonight once the shed has refilled. Nice to see that he didn't get a major food spike though.

off to work now. it is still POURING with rain. lovely. Welcome to Spring!

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +2.5,354

Hi guys .. I'm so happy that rupert is recovering well from the dental .. I bet he feels like a million bucks :-D I just hope his eye problems clear up for you .. have a great day!

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +2.5,354

Great report on Rupert this morning!'m looking forward to seeing blues and yellows in his chart soon.

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +2.5,354

I'm very glad to read this about Rupert; I can imagine it was very painful. If you've ever had an infected tooth or had to have a root canal, you know how bad the pain can be. Hoping his eye will clear up today.

Good suggestion from Sienne to keep an eye on his BG.....he could really drop.

On the syringes...I also use the short needles. You might like them

Have a great day, Pip.

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +2.5,354

Vet just sent me copy of the xray of his rotten tooth. the dark area is where the whole inside has already rotted away and at the base it's beginning bone reabsorption! poor fella! Glad it's gone!:

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +2.5,354, now with xray image!

Oh wow Pip and Rupert!! What a great report for this morning, sounds like that nasty tooth was really bothering him.

Have a great day you 2!

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +2.5,354, +6.5, 475

well, drat, was hoping for at least another pink at +6.5, sigh. maybe I did fur shoot this morning! or.. I guess more likely, it's taking some time for the shed to refill. Hoping for some nicer numbers this evening Post PM shot...he seems a little subdued.. maybe the painkiller is wearing off and his toothy hurts a bit. poor guy.

Patience Pip

that was my fist thought. however you did mention this morning the possibility of the AM shot being a fur shot.

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +2.5,354, +6.5, 475

Hi Rupert hope your teeth are feeling better now and lets come on down from that ugly red floor soon

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +6.5, 475,PMPS 387

wasn't expecting to see him drop back into the edge of pink for his PMPS so that was a nice surprise! He looks great tonight, purring, and doesn't seem to be in any pain. has eaten all his dinner (friskies/evo mix with lysine/enzymes) and I had a harder time giving his shot, not because he was being feisty, but because his skin is tighter (less dehydrated!) so was harder to pull up to make a tent. I also go some half unit syringes!! found DIFFERENT gal at the pharmacy who has a diabetic cat herself! they are the short ones though, but I tried one tonight.. I think I liked it. guess we'll see! Let's hope we'll get to a stage where we are needing those half unit measures....

off for my riding lesson now. Hubby on cat watch duty. Finding that having Rupie more active is great... except he decided to hide tonight when it was shot time... clever dude! I think I'll be getting a lot more exercise over the next while!

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +6.5, 475,PMPS 387

I tell ya, ya gotta be persistent! Good for you for finding some 1/2 unit syringes! Rupert, sweetie, you need to let your bean give you your shot so you will feel better. It's very important. Plus you will get some nice treats. :-D

He is one tough cookie, that Rupert of yours. The dental didnt seem to phase him, huh?! That is wonderful.
You sound brighter today too, which is good to hear.

I meant to add this to your condo yesterday, because I emphasized making sure Rupert stayed hydrated due to the metacam. If you want to check your cat for hydration, there is a simple way to do so.
Now test your cat. Here’s how to do a skin turgor test for dehydration on your cat:

gently pinch some skin on the back of the neck/shoulder area.
If the skin stays up and does not go down, your cat is so severely dehydrated you have to get to a veterinarian urgently.
If the skin takes a second or two to go down, you have to go to the vet’s because of moderate to severe dehydration.
If your cat’s skin snaps back in place, you annoyed your cat with the test, fur is thick and shiny, and your cat is lively and happy, why are you reading this? Prepare a cup of organic green tea and leave your cat alone!

There is a way to do so by feeling the gums. I never used that method, and not sure if it is as reliable. The turgor test is what most vets use. Maybe someone else can comment.

I hope you enjoyed your riding this evening and come back to a happy cat!

Re: 3/15 Rupert AMPS 370, +6.5, 475,PMPS 387

great report on mr rupert today! so good to hear he's feeling better, eating ok and zooming around. all good news.

the x-ray looks like that tooth was painful!

Re: 3/15 Rupert ,PMPS 387,+2.5 297, +4.5, 153 !!

+4.5 and we have BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!! okay. this is great. but I sure hope it doesn't mean he's going to bounce all over the place tomorrow! Will get a +5.5 (11:30pm) and get up later to test again if necessary! He sure looks happy tonight. playing, being evasive (!) ... I"m off to lock the cat flap down so he can't get out!....eating very well, had a snack at +3.5 (EVO ulta low carb).. and I'm just giving him a tablespoon of Friskies Salmon Dinner (6% carb).. to slow him down just a smidge, would love him to level out here for the rest of the evening so as not to surprise Mr. Liver too much!

Re: 3/15 Rupert ,PMPS 387,+2.5 297, +4.5, 153 !!

Pip

That's a pretty big drop in two hours....I might be tempted to give him just a little more than 6% unless he is carb sensitive. Do you have a little 8 or 10%?

So happy to see him coming down!!!

Re: 3/15 Rupert ,PMPS 387,+2.5 297, +4.5, 153 !!

don't know if he's carb sensitive, guess we'll find out! Have just given him a tablespoon of the Ocean Breeze. It's 8%. I have some gravy HC stuff but don't want to give it to him until he really needs it. He sure thinks this is great, three snacks in such a short timeframe and each one more nummy than the last!

Re: 3/15 Rupert ,PMPS 387,+2.5 297, +4.5, 153 !!

PJ party over here too, it's all happening today/tonight. Amazing what a difference that dental has made :-D

Re: 3/15 Rupert ,PMPS 387,+2.5 297, +4.5, 153, + 6, 147

+6 and holding steady in the blues at 147. wheee! he's very purry. Sleeping on the back of the couch as per usual and somewhat surprised to see me this late in the evening! Sure hope he surfs this blue all night. Nice to see him looking so much more like his old self.

Re: 3/15 Rupert ,PMPS 387,+2.5 297, +4.5, 153,+6,147,+8.5, 3

+8.5 (2:30am!) and he's kerboinged back up toe 347 (guess that might answer the 'carb sensitive' question! or it's a kerboing from the nice blues!).

tomorrow (well today now!) is another day. could be an interesting one!

btb!
