Jo, I'm curious: why did you switch to Levemir?
I'm glad she rebounded well from the hypo--always scary.
I tried Lantus for over a year and her numbers were just all over the place, especially after she got Pancreatitis several months ago. I just wanted to see if changing would make a difference and Id heard great things about Levemir. So far its been working better for her, but its still early.

Gotcha. I know the insulins can work differently, so I wondered what was happening with her and Lantus to make you decide to change.
I hope Levemir works better for Karamelle. She's certainly a beauty!

Hi Jo, that must’ve been pretty scary with the lower number. I hope she’s doing OK on the Levemir. It sounds like It’s going well.
Hope she’s eating better today. Sending lots of support your way.

It must have dropped overnight. Didnt really look like it was headed that way, but this is new insulin
Levemir onsets later than Lantus. I suspect the +2 test at night will not be the best indicator for you. Do you think you can get more +3 tests at night?

I can try to do more pm+3's. I noticed today it went up after the drop. I assume that was the bounce? Much better bounce than on Lantus. But then it started coming back down by +2. I have a hard time telling when onset is. Ive been testing pretty frequently since starting Levemir so I can see a trend.
Regardless of all this, Im really loving the numbers. And Karamelle acts like she feels better, although that still isnt translating into eating well. She was sluggish this morning with the 45.

The numbers could also have gone up because the insulin from the previous shot was wearing off. Same thing often happens with +1's with Lantus. Getting a few more +1, +2, +3 or +2.5 in there will help you pinpoint the onset. "Typical" Lev onset is +4, but not uncommon to see it earlier.

When you were testing the first couple days of Levemir, there was still some Lantus depot in there that was making it harder to figure out the Levemir action. At this point, what you are seeing is Levemir. The other thing to note is that Karamelle's body now has to learn how to work the Levemir instead of the Lantus. It can take a month or two before that happens.

Thanks Wendy.
