So far so good, he's licking every bowl clean still and asking for more, but i'm pacing him in case his stomach is still sensitive. I'll give cerenia with his +9 snack just to be safe.
Flare is still suspicious of him and hissing, as usual after a vet visit. I need to get some feliway to see if it helps any for the next vet visit.

I don't like how high his nadir is today compared to usual, but maybe its a tiny bounce from last night or food timing.

Have a great weekend!

Hopefully, that elevated nadir (and it's certainly not that elevated) is just a one off--I wonder if it's a result of him eating more than usual?

Hazel hisses at Jude after a vet visit too.

Have a good day, Albert!! Scritches to Flare and Xander!

So happy to hear Xander is eating well! Always wonderful news!! 😻

I’m sure Flare smells all those bad smells on him and gets pissed! 😠

I hope Xander continues to feel well and keep eating, paws crossed 🤞

Have a relaxing Caturday 😻🐈‍⬛🐈😻

Flare started even before the vet, when Xander started throwing up he was following him around hissing. He's very sensitive to change, he was once scared of me for a whole day after I got a haircut 🙄

It looks like his nadir did manage to come down to 85 at +5. Weird timing for him today.

@Staci & Ivy I remember you mentioning you use pill pockets, which brand do you use? I'm thinking of trying that for the cerenia today, but my only option available today would be the Greenies brand and I see wheat flour in the ingredients. I guess one treat would be a pretty negligible amount of carbs though?

I’ve used the greenies a few times. Admittedly haven’t studied the impact on BG though. One thing I do is pull them apart and like make my own wrap to minimize the amount of greenie that he actually has.

Thank you Tim! I may give that a try and see if he goes for it to save him some of the pill struggle. He is a master at hiding pills, even pretending to swallow

I'm glad he's eating! I hope all continues smoothly for him.

I would trade you for that nadir. 😅 I don't love spending the middle of every cycle worrying that we might wind up in the citrus.

Aww I know! I remember how it felt not knowing what his pancreas would do day to day 🤗 Although we probably won't get to remission, Xander's been blessed with incredibly predictable numbers for the most part.

I love my new vet practice and their experience with cats, but in regards to nutrition advice 😶

I wanted to share the low fat diet they attached to his after visit paperwork the last two times. What in the world:

Yes that is what I use. I easily pull it apart for a dose and mold 1/2 around the pill then use the other 1/2 for the pm dose she takes.

I don’t think it affects her BG. She’s had high cycles and low cycles. She needs her pill 2x daily so I just do it and she’s happy to take her pill.
Otherwise I’d have to pill her 2x a day.
I actually just put it on a plate or napkin and she eats it herself.
I hope Xander thinks he’s getting a cool treat! 😻

Wow that was easy. Xander absolutely loved the pill pocket and swallowed it down without even chewing 😆 I followed it with his +9 snack, so hopefully no throw up. The vet was surprised to hear he had that reaction to the cerenia twice, but I think I may have not followed it with food or water those times.

This is deeply disturbing to me. I'm not familiar with the prescription diet ID/KD, but the Cream of Wheat and the 3 tblsps. granulated sugar? Perhaps that is okay for a non-diabetic cat that suffers from chronic pancreatitis, but it's not good for diabetic Xander. @Wendy&Neko and @Sienne and Gabby (GA), thoughts???

Same. The paper wasn't really mentioned to me at all, it was suggested that a low fat prescription diet would be good for pancreatitis but I know that's more for dogs. But that recipe seems a bit out there

Also just for clarification, i'm definitely not switching Xander's diet from the low carb fancy feast. Just found that attached article bizzare and wanted to share
I knew you weren't. I only tagged Wendy and Sienne because they have such extensive knowledge, and I was wondering their thoughts on the diet. I have a feeling I know what they will say but just wanted to get their weigh-in. They might know something I don't (they often do!!). What's problematic is that you KNOW that diet is wonky, but think about the patients who don't and are following those guidelines. Makes me so thankful for this group.

My kitty's are the absolute worst after vet visits ugh, its like they've forgotten they are related 🤪 I have feliway diffusers around my house but I'm not sure it helps...

I cannot imagine my cats eating what's in that recipe. The carb content is not appropriate for a diabetic. When my cat was first diagnosed with diabetes, she was also diagnosed with pancreatitis. The vets that saw her -- my vet and the critical care/ICU vet -- did to recommend any special diet. They were more concerned with making sure she would eat.
