Simon is on his 2nd day of antiobiotics and is doing well. Ate well this morning and seems happy and playful. I am calling the vet today to ask about the baytril and if I can give pepcid right before the antibiotic. Also will ask if the type of bacteria that was found in Simon's urine is anything to be worried about with my civvie.

Speaking of my civvie, Cleo, she seems to be having a constipation issue. What is the best thing to give her to help with this? I add water to her food but I'm not sure if I should buy something like laxatone to help. I just noticed her having a problem last night. She kept going into the litterbox but was unable to do anything. She seems ok otherwise and did eat this morning.

Off to work I go and I'll probably come back at lunch to check on everyone. Have a great day!

Re: 3/14 Simon AMPS 105

Morning, glad to hear Simon is doing well and a nice blue amps too.
You can add fibre to your civies diet just buy some non flavoured powder and sprinkle a bit on top of the food, my vet once suggested about 1/4 tsp and it did the trick.

Good luck

I am not sure what you can do once they are constipated. I wouldn't do something that can make things worse. Laxatone is for hairballs right? Probably couldn't hurt at all.

I would add mirilax to her food to help keep water in her stool and prevent constipation. When Maverick when he was constipated we had to bring him to the vet for an enema to get him cleared out. He had gone five days without a BM though.

Re: 3/14 Simon AMPS 105

Just finished talking to the vet today. Baytril is only given once a day in Simon's case but I have to give 1/2 pill for 20 days! What a pain. Simon will then need to have another urine culture done 10 days after the completion of his meds. I also found out that the type of bacteria in his urine is not infectious so no problem for my civvie.

I may have to bring my civvie in to get an enema done if she doesn't have any action today. Why does it always seem that when it rains, it pours! And just when my pocketbook is pretty empty. Oh well, I guess I will live without getting my hair cut and colored for another 2 weeks. Anything for my babies.

Re: 3/14 Simon AMPS 105

I was embarassed to get my roots done a week and a half ago. Wow the grey is more and more plentiful each time too. Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones that dye your hair just for a colour change, not to cover greys.

Good to hear that it isn't contagious. It really is smart to do the full 20 days for Simon. Bacteria can be evil if you don't kill the bacteria and they rebound.

I was told by Nike's cardiologist not to give her pepcid and her medications at the same time (one hour before or two hours after I believe were the instructions).

And I was told by the dog heart group - no probiotic yogurt. Not sure if it was the yogurt or the probiotic she shouldn't have. I had posted I bought Activia to help settle her stomach. Just an FYI.

Yeah, green!

Karrie, thanks for mentioning about the pepcid because I forgot to ask the vet about it. I called him again (I think he is probably referring to me now as the "problem client" because of all the times I call him and ask him questions). He also supported what you said. I am to give him the pepcid about an hour before he gets the antibiotic or a few hours later. As to the answer about the hair color -- unfortunately, I am having to cover the grey so I can't go too long to get my hair colored without looking older than I want to think I am.

My civvie, Cleo, seems to have a little litter box action but it is pretty small and hard. I am going to put some fiber in her food this evening and hope she does better.
