Zener is doing fine this morning after his rainbow run yesterday. I'm liking this start a whole lot better. :-D He's not eating a whole bunch although he did eat some 4% just now, mostly at his outdoor picnic table. He got on the chair at the table to help me with the crossword puzzle - he hasn't done that in quite a while. We are taking him for a checkup to the vet this morning.

Thinking of Rosalie, Sid and Lydia, and others who are ailing. Happy Tuesday LL!

+2, 107, 1 pill pocket, 1 treat, 3mg zobaline, 0.4oz 11%

Crazy cat. He's not all that keen to eat. Maybe Mannie can fill him in on the joys of eating? Will get a test at +3 and then before we leave for the vet at +4.

Serryn: Thanks for the good wishes. Looks like Zener is the diving champ for this cycle. I'm glad to see that Vyktor is into surfing.
Celi:   I think Zener is trying to spell his name.

Hi Liz, sending good Vetty vines for Zener. What a pic from Celi, how does she do it! I like hearing that Zener had a picnic and helped you with the crossword puzzle. :-D Will be watching for an update.

Re: 2/13 Zener AMPS 244;+1 270;+2.5 107 vetty visit

Zener....slow down a little, please. We like you in green, but I'm sure it feels much better when you get there at a slower pace!

Sorry to hear that he's still not eating that great. Good luck with the vetty visit! I hope you get some answers that help...you two work so hard for Zener, and he's doing his best too.

Come on Zener, yum, yum, eat 'em up! You're going to end up with yet another med if you don't.

Good vetty visit vines coming.

The big guy was green before we left for the vet visit and still green when we got home. He's gotten pretty used to being in the car and the vet and assistants tell him how handsome he is, so he seemed pretty low key about the whole thing.

All in all, the report was good. He had gained weight, coat looked shiny and healthy and the vet was impressed how much better he was doing. Because of the low appy following the episodes of vomiting she wanted to go the cerenia route like we did so effectively before, but not as many injections this time. She would prefer to be proactive and not have us get back to the no eating, syringe feeding. She gave him 1 injection and sent us home with 2 more syringes for 3 days total. She also said a short bout of the appy stimulant was okay if he was not showing signs of nausea. We asked about cisipride for motility and it is a special order drug here. She wants to do a little research on it as she is only familiar with its use in megacolon and will get back with us in a couple of days about that.

The only other thing was some gum redness in the back of the left side of his mouth. We were pretty bummed since he just had the dental in Dec. She said gum disease can really upset the health of a diabetic animal, but it was mild gum irritation in one spot and brushing his teeth would really help - no way on another dental for him, symptoms not nearly at that level and he just had one with so many complications. So, now we are researching tooth brushing, any suggestions on toothpaste for a diabetic cat, or any other tips on brushing of the toofies will be most welcome!

@Ann & Maggie - thanks for the good vetty vines, it was a good visit. Celi is gifted in finding just the right pictures!

@Laurie - he listened to you and has flattened out. Perhaps he would still be on the express train if not for the vet visit!

@Devon - vet visit was good and we have a plan.

@Linda - so right you are, another med but only for a short bit. It really did the trick for him last time, so paws crossed his appy gets a boost again.

It looks like Zener and Mookie are having a race to the green this morning. Sending hungry vines to Zener, and hoping the vet visit goes well.

Yay for a good vet visit and green all in one day  excellent work Zener.

I tried brushing Vyktor's teeth when he was a youngster but he wouldn't have a bar of it but I know Marje and Sienne are both onto the teeth brushing. I'm sure they'll be along to give you some suggestions.

Re: 2/13 Zener AMPS 244;+1 270;~2 107;+3 105;+4 93;+5.5 89 v

Gabby, the cat with dental issues, won't let me brush her teeth. Gizmo, however, uses this toothbrush and paste. Most of the other toothbrushes are too big for a cat's mouth. There was a post by Dr. Lisa on the Health board and she mentioned that toothpaste is pretty much unimportant. You could use just a wet toothbrush.

PMPS 153, 3rd cycle @1.75u, 1.6oz 11% & 1/16t miralax, 1/2PP & 1/8 Zantac, 5 drops kidney support homeopathic liquid
We started using a homeopathic liquid for kidney support on the recommendation of our homeopathic practitioner. Used with humans and animals for kidney support when diabetic. Can't hurt him, so thought we would try for a bit.

@Randa - Zener made it to greens and stayed there for the mid-part of his cycle. We wondered when the vetty visit woud kick in and saw him jump from blue to yellow, now back to blue at PMPS. Perhaps he and Mookie can rendezvous at the Green Lagoon tonight?

@Serryn - it's been a good day for Zener. We see some suggestions in our condo already from Sienne on teeth brushing. :YMHUG:

@Sienne - funny that Gabby, needs it but doesn't want it. We will check out the toothbrush in the link you sent us and also will visit Dr Lisa's post on toothbrushing. We sure don't want Zener to get into gum and tooth trouble again so soon!

Zener is asking for food tonight for the first time since the pukus episode last week, whew! That Cerenia is good stuff. We have two more syringes ready to go unless his appy is still going strong tomorrow. And if we don't need them, we'll have them on hand for when we do. We are liking our new vet more and more. She was not familiar with cisipride use in diabetic cats for motility, so wants to do a little research and will call us later this week.

Thanks to all for sending eating vines and vetty visit wishes! Hope everyone has a calm and peaceful evening in LL. cat_pet_icon

Re: 2/13 Zener PMPS 153 vet report

Great vet report and great AMPS! What a good boy. Hope his appy comes back. Good job on gaining weight Zener! Have a great night all!

Re: 2/13 Zener PMPS 153 vet report

Good news all around...great numbers, great vet report, great that his appy his heading back on track! Go, Zener!

Have a great evening, guys!

Re: 2/13 Zener PMPS 153;+1 199 vet report

Oh, I'm so glad Zener is feeling better tonight and also glad the vet visit went well. Zener doesn't seem to be too stressed from the vet visit. I tried brushing Simon's teeth but he hates anyone near his mouth. Therefore, we had to spend way too much money on the dental and extractions. If he only would brush his toothies!

Re: 3/13 Zener PMPS 153;+1 199;~3 192 vet report

Holding steady in the blues so far tonight and eating like a lumberjack! :-D

PMPS 153, 3rd cycle @1.75u, 1.6oz 11% & 1/16t miralax, 1/2PP & 1/8 Zantac
+1 199, 1.0oz 11%
+1.5 0.7oz 8%
~3 192, 0.7oz 8%

He has been asking for food since his PMPS meal. We are so happy! :-D

@Melissa & Mr T - he is SUCH a good boy. His appy is back to normal tonight, that cerenia works wonders for him!

@Amy - we are so relieved he is eating better!

@Georgia - tonight is a much better night and the best one we've had in almost a week. Zener doesn't mind going to the vet too much now, he's had lots of practice. We are going to give the tooth brushing a go, since we do NOT want another dental after the stress and complications of the one he just had three months ago. We've ordered the toothbrush Sienne gave us the link for and will go without toothpaste, trying the wet brush only at first. We'll see how it goes.

Looking like the possibility of a flat blue evening, so I'll get one more before bedtime check, in case the mighty Z has a surprise in store for us tonight. Wishing everyone a drama-rama free evening in LL!

Re: 3/13 Zener PMPS 153;+1 199;~3 192 vet report

Well that sounds like a pretty good vet report. I'm so sorry to hear Zener isn't eating too well. that is so hard when they do that. I had to syringe feed Jake (ga). Its not easy. I hope that something gets his appy going again.

I don't think I told you that there was a CH kitty at best friends sanctuary in Utah named Tumbles. He looks a lot like Zener. Tumbles had a pretty bad case of CH but he got adopted a couple months ago :-D Yay for black kitties and special ones like Zener.

Re: 3/13 Zener PMPS 153;+1 199;~3 192 vet report

just checking in to see you guys! that is a pretty good vet visit - i hope the gum issue isn't too serious.

of course the best news is that he's wanting to eat tonight! wahoo and yippee! picnic table here we come! :-D

It IS really hard when they won't eat, it seems worse to us than when his numbers are high (most of the time ;-) ). We had a period where he stopped eating all together and Liz syringe fed him for almost a week, very stressful on all of us. Our vet used 5 days of cerenia injections and reglan (for motility) and that got him started again. It was most likely due to borderline motility before his dental, and then the combo of anesthesia and bupe post-dental brought his GI system to a halt.

This time the vet thought it was nausea only and he is eating well tonight after only one cerenia injection. We have paws crossed this is all it takes this time!

CH kitties are amazing! We live about 5-6 hours from Kanab where Best Friends is located. I've driven by there twice and was not able to stop. Probably a good thing, or we would have more cats! As far as CH goes, Zener has a mild case and he is amazingly resilient. A very special guy!

Re: 3/13 Zener PMPS 153;+1 199;~3 192 vet report

  You are lucky to live so close to best friends - but I know what you mean about having more cats! That is where sid comes from! In fact Sid and Tumbles lived in the same building.

I put Jake's(ga) cremains out there at Angel's Rest which is best friends animal memorial spot (with his girlfriend Chocolate and another cat named Frisco) so right now you are closer to all of them than me.

I hope the meds work for Zener. My heart goes out to you about the syringe feeding. It is really stressful because when kitties doesn't feel like eating, they really don't want to and it feels like torturing them to put the food down. I hope things get better. and I also wanted to add that I hope things continue like tonight and he keeps eating well. :-D

Re: 3/13 Zener PMPS 153;+1 199;~3 192 vet report

Zener got a good vetty report!! Glad the cerenia helped already and yes I do know how upsetting it is when they wont eat!! You both & Zener are so valiant in the sugar dance and all his other ailments!!
I really look up to you, who have helped him so much in spite of all things..This is what people who wind up here in LL are made of! And he has good numbers anyway!!!!!!!
Hope tomorrow brings easier times & Zener will be a hungry boy again--Hugs & Love from us!!
Good thing we all dont live near Best Friends!! It would be empty

Glad you got a good Betty report and hope the cerenia works. I also hope brushing that one gum area will help. I use the same toothpaste as Sienne but Inuse qtips to rub along the gum/ tooth area.

Glad he was feeling better tonight.

Looks like a bounce off today's greens or perhaps from the vetty visit after all.
PMPS 153, 3rd cycle @1.75u, 1.6oz 11% & 1/16t miralax, 1/2PP & 1/8 Zantac
+1 199, 1.0oz 11%
+1.5 0.7oz 8%
~3 192, 0.7oz 8%
+5 308, 0.7oz 8%

Looks like no more pokies for this evening. I'll see if he wants a bit more to eat, then set up the auto feeder for overnight. Despite the stinkus pinkus, he is feeling much better.

@julie - thanks for checking on us! The gums aren't bad, just one area that was red and irritated today, was not there last time we were at the vet. Vet thinks that brushing will help and no way considering a dental again in the near future. He is wanting to eat, not having to follow him around and push food on him tonight. :-D Weather is warm enough for picnics this week but a foot of snow is forecast Sun-Mon, just in time for all the students driving back from spring break.

@Lydia - that is so wonderful Sid came from Best Friends and was "housemates" with Tumbles! I've heard about Angel's Rest but have not actually been to Best Friends. I will think about all of your fur babies that are there now, what a lovely and loving resting place. :YMHUG: Thanks for all your kind words. Zener is doing much better tonight.

@Roni - thank you for all your support. His numbers aren't so great right now, but what goes up will come down. It was kind of a stressful day with the vetty visit. He has been a hungry boy tonight. :-D You are so right about Best Friends being empty if we all lived near by!

ETA
@Marje - thanks for the info on toothbrushes/Qtips & toothpaste. We will give it a try. Zener is pretty good about letting us do most anything to him, so shall see how it all works out. Tonight is a much more restful one at our house, for everyone!

Hope everyone has sweet dreams, ni ni LL. I-)
