The second FD vet I went to basically said he didn't think it worked, but I'm sure if I said I would like to try it anyway he would have let me. Did the vet seem to be on board with trying it, but just wanted some of these other issues to settle first? Or did they think it was a complete contradiction? Hopefully the gaba will help a lot with the arthritis. Asia is only on pain meds for arthritis, which isn't ideal, I'd like to address it further than just pain management, but at this point she has so many other things going on, not sure adding yet another med in the mix is wise.

Hope Rufus gets sorted out soon and the meds help with that. I'm sorry for your bust vet visit yesterday. That is frustrating. I don't understand why all these vets near you won't use adequan?
The vet said that since he wasn't eating right, the adequan could make it worse. Seems she had no desire to ever use adequan on him, which is dissapointing seeing as she uses it on her kitty. They are going to call in a few for check up. I'll ask again. I din't give Rufus the gaba last night, only the bupe. that stuff knocked him out, and didn't want the gaba on top of that. So another thing with the gaba is only my old old vet has it in pill form. But she doesn't think it's a good idea to keep a cat on it long term as t can cause liver issues. She was very reluctant to give me a weeks worth. She is also the one that is telling me to push further with the IBD/lymphoma issue, which I agree with.
Oh I know, but my huge concern is the not eating. He is eating maybe half, maybe less, the cals he needs for the last 5 days. And when he does eat, it's food that he has an intolerance to. I just want him to understand that if he eats a different food, he'll feel better later on! At least that's what I'm hoping the issue is!That is good news, you have to remember, he is not his lab results! If he's feeling good and acting right, that is a huge positive and those are the things you hang on to, the other things may come along with time and intervention, but until then, he's doing well all things considered. It is tricky balancing multiple ailments, but we all do the best we can and usually the cats aren't as bothered about it as we are!
Honestly, I don't remeber exactly. It was a lot of technical mumbo jumbo. Something about his sore throat and the gaba for the arthritis. Said that if his body needs the bupe it will use it, and if not it won't? It's a narcotic and gaba isn't and the body will use what it needs? Gosh now I am confused. I haven't given the gaba today. Not sure I will. She said to space them out 2 hours apart to see which each does to him, but he does the same on both. Lethargic and sleeps (at least for the first 2 hours).
That's what I was thinking. If he is in pain, and the adequan helps that, hopefully it would improve appetite.
Thanks for checking about those 2 meds together! I haven't given the gaba since Saturday I believe. I should be writing these down before I forget! So currently his only med are insulin, cisapride, and bupe. No nauseua meds. No supplements. We'll have to see how his appetite is at noon. He ate about half his breakfast and had 3 treats. Again he is downstairs and stoned. I went to check on him and he starts purring immedielty, he must really like that bupe.
Unfortunely I know pepcid causes him some constipation. But going forward I think miralax as maintance would help.

I get that! I tried taking him off of everything, mainly to get the constipation issue resolved. He was on onda, cerenia, and gaba last thursday. It was also his worst eating day. That's when I first thought to take him off everything, becuase if he was on all of that and it didn't work...
totally! Thing is is that I have a ton of mental notes, but everyhting seems to change on a daily basis. What works one day doesn't the next. But yeah, i should be writing it all down.
That they have never used it in cats before. That's what they all keep telling me. I'll just keep calling.
It seems after about 4 hours he's "normal". His appetite is a little better today, so not sure if it's the bupe or because he pooped a little. He was still lip smacking a little.
Yeah, this clinic said they'll do it, but I have to use them from now on, and they need to do a full exam and all that. I get it. But, he's had so much "work" done recently, can't they use that info? Plus the whole 1 time a month doesn't sit right with me.
That's a long time! I'm just concerned and hoping he doesn't need it for life. I'd like to figure the issue out, if possible. Who knows.
You can always see if they'll transfer records for you...but a lot of medical facilities (human or pet) do like to have their "own" set of labs and all that.
I'm wondering though, could be wrong since he's on pain meds, that the arthritis is part of the issue. If he's not wanting to go because there is pain involved, and then gets blocked up? I do know that he doesn't squat like he used to. Very helpful for collecting urine.
