Well today around 1:20 Mickey fell on the floor and made a cry and was gasping for breath. I took him when he calmed down a bit I put him in a crate and rushed him to the vet. They put him in oxygen tent. He seemed to be relieved a bit. But was still panting with tongue out. Open mouthed.

X-rays show some type of mass on or by his heart. He has a high fever and is laying on ice packs. Some of his arteries are thinning and he has a little fluid on his lungs. The x-rays have to be sent off to be read by a radiologist. Which can take up to 24 hours.
Edited to add- this mass was not on an x-ray that was taken in 2011

They want me to pick him up at 6pm, (they arent a 24 hr clinic) they will give him lasix. I am afraid when they take him out of the oxygen tent he won't be able to breathe and suffer at home. So I am waiting for the vet to call on that question/answer.

Got that answer - they have had him off oxygen for 1.5 hrs and he seems fine at the moment. So he is being sent home with no meds. My friend is picking him up for me. I have a separate room set up for him until I get home at 10. I won't have an answer until tomorrow.

He is probably so scared, I am too.

Oh gosh Peggy, I just read your post and aM as stunned as you must be with how suddenly this came on. I'm sorry I have no experience with this to share with you to say it's going to be OK. All my prayers are with you and Mickey right now.

(((Peggy))) Prayers for Mickey on the way.

How scary. They don't know what happened or what the mass is? Do you have an ER vet nearby just in case? Try and keep him comfortable and warm (not too warm) and quiet. Your biggest concern will be his breathing right now, I think.

I hesitate to post this, but a mass near the heart could by a mediastinal tumor that originates from the thymus. The thymus sits above the heart (well, if the cat were standing up like a human) and unfortunately a tumor there puts pressure on their heart, trachea and esophagus. I just think that you should know what you might be dealing with. I would want to know if it was me. Sometimes prednisone can shrink them. My 18-1/2 y.o. cat had one that had no symptoms until the very end.

I'm sorry. I will pray for the best.

Thank you all for the support and prayers.
Sheila, On the x-ray you could see the mass clear as day. (Compared to the one he had in 2011 that was clear.) They have no idea what happened to him as of yet.
The oxygen tent seemed to calm his breathing down.
I have him in a bedroom all by himself. No Thomas to bother him. My friend said when she dropped him off he was so hungry,he ate a whole can of food.
So all I have to worry about tonight is his breathing. Oh now(big smack in the head), she did say something about narrowing of his trachea. I was a bit frantic in the office.
Thanks for the info on that illness. Scary, but if he needs steroids he will have them.

Sending many healing vibes for Mickey!!! I am so sorry that hes not feeling well. I really hope he can rally.
Wrapping you in cyber hugs.

(((Peggy))), I'm sending tons of good thoughts to Mickey and you. I hope the vet figures out what is going on with him, and that he is stable through the night. You must be worried sick. I'm so sorry! We've got everything crossed over here in hopes that he feels better soon.

Lots and lots of healing prayers and vibes heading your way. Scary when these things happen so suddenly.

Hoping that you can find some sort of relief for Mickey and some meds will help.

Peggy,

Just said a little prayer for Mickey. What a terrible thing to go through to find him on the floor in distress. Will be watching for updates.
